The bit that you skip #57: Lucas - Lucas with the lid off

OR: Day two of the unofficial pentalogy of great 90s sample-based tracks.

Never been shy to say I love rap. Once the genre expanded to other countries, a few acts grabbed my attention. US3, Jovanotti, and today’s pick, Lucas, from Denmark.

Lucas with the lid off is an off-kilter track. A sample from Benny Goodman’s When Buddha Smiles is the foundation of this electroswing track, perhaps one of…

The bit that you skip #56: White town - Your woman

OR: Day one of the unofficial pentalogy of great 90s sample-based tracks.

The beginning of university in 95 was an odd experience. My master was Communications Science, because, as you can see, I like arts, movies, and writing. The first semester wasn’t what I expected and I ended up switching majors on my second semester, to Telecomm.

I’ve heard the word “sample” and “cover” a lot from…

Hang All In (The Re-Whistle) - February 2026

My entry in the ccMixter Show Some Love event.

Built around an organ sample, I initially struggled to get this one going, in part because I was going on holiday and had a much shorter window to play with.

However, one evening, I found my beat.

Reviews for I Was Very Tired on Looperman:

  • Hey Kirkoid! Excellent choice of ingredients. Organ sounds great. BBs guitar fits just right. Well mixed my friend. Keep them coming.
  • Really cool song. I like it!

Reviews for I Was Very Tired on ccMixter:

  • Cool.
  • Love the eclectic mix and electro-dub vibes!Nice smooth chilled track, love those strings. Nice build throughout.
  • Nicely done.
  • Great Work, very clean! love it!
  • The organ sample really is the perfect foundation. you’ve made a wonderful track revealing new layers of sound and melody at each turn. Powerful when that rhythm section kicks in! The vocals are super cool, digging the guitar solo. You’re so talented! Fabulous mix.
  • Groovy!
  • Smoove
  • I seldom say this, but…coulda been longer! Much enjoyed.

All Sounds in One Place: Soundstock

A growing platform that aims to simplify how producers find and use samples, loops, and audio assets.

Sound Stock has positioned itself as a streamlined solution for producers who want fast access to usable sounds without the usual friction and option paralysis. Instead of jumping between scattered sample packs or worrying about licensing questions, the platform gathers music tracks, sound effects, and a large catalog of loops and one shots in a single, searchable space.

For beatmakers working in hip hop, electronic producers shaping club tracks, pop writers building demos, or composers sketching cinematic cues, Sound Stock offers a steady flow of new material. The library continues to expand, which keeps the selection current and varied across genres. The focus is less on spectacle and more on practicality. Sounds are organized for quick browsing and immediate download, reducing the time spent hunting for assets.

That efficiency is central to the platform’s appeal. In a typical production workflow, momentum can stall when the right drum loop or texture is missing. Sound Stock aims to remove that pause. With samples ready to drop directly into a session, creators can test ideas, layer elements, and move from rough sketch to finished track with fewer interruptions.

The platform also reflects how modern production has evolved. Many producers now work across styles, shifting from trap drums to synth driven dance tracks or from minimalist pop to trailer inspired compositions. Having a broad, regularly updated sound library in one place supports that flexibility.

Sound Stock does not promise to replace creativity; it offers tools that make the process smoother. For producers balancing deadlines, content creation, and personal projects, that simplicity can make a measurable difference.

Both glazes on each picture are the same.
I think the difference is due to oxygen quantities in the kiln (the red and the yellow glazes containers specifically advise to leave a lot of oxygen during the firing), but that was unexpected.

Inconveniently, while I like the red and yellow better with (I assume) more oxygen (the darker red and more orange yellow), I like the grey much better with less (the bluer grey).

Sampletok girlies HOW do we get samples? Everyone says to just follow brands but I never get the sample ads. And I tried pinch me but I swear it’s rage bait bc it never lets me confirm products after I do the whole sign up for a random service thing.

I’ve been getting into making industrial metal and it seems that the og bands used the old Akai and Ensoniq samplers. So, donwloaded a sampler plugin a bunch of different libraries from archive.org and I’m mad that today the market is so dominated by Kontakt with libraries that go up to more than 100 or 200 or even 300 Gb and don’t really offer that much of an improvement except in more or less the quality of the sound but even then it is not that much. All the nice features the modern libraries offer really are just niche uses and edge cases and for 90% of music production are not needed. We need to go back to having a full fledged orchestral library fit into a fucking CD-ROM.

Does anyone know any cool libraries? I’m checking out the Spectrasonics collection and a choral one, but navigating through archive.org is like nsvigating the sea without knowing the stars. I want an acoustic guitar library.

Interesting piece of musical trivia— the cursing on School Spirit (Kanye West song from his debut album) is distorted or played backwards even in the explicit album because Aretha Franklin wouldn’t let Kanye use her sample if the song had profanity in it.

Additional piece of musical trivia— this is very unnerving when you’re listening to the album, forget about it, assume that there must be a scratch on your record, and freak out until you think to google the lyrics
