The trees, oceans, animals, mountain have rights just as human beings have rights. Rights of Nature is about balancing what is good for human beings against what is good for other species, what is good for the planet as a world. It is the holistic recognition that all life, all ecosystems on our planet are deeply intertwined
Sarah Palin’s been at it again! She was quoted in a speech to members of the oil and gas industry in Houston that “if it is to hurt one caribou, then that one caribou should take one for the team and allow the rest of the country to benefit.”
And here’s another piece from the #RightsOfNature show I saw this week in Nottingham…
It’s an aerial view of pregnant female caribou herd migrating over the Coleen River in the Arctic Refuge, Alaska. By Subhankar Banerjee…
His comment on how insignificant we humans view these magnificent animals… No more important than a colony of ants.
In fact, according to Subhankar. Fifteen Gwich'in villages, in Alaska and the Yukon and Northwest Territories in Canada, depend on the Porcupine River caribou herd for subsistence food. Their cultural and spiritual identities are inextricably linked to the caribou.
The Gwich'in Nation oppose oil development in the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the calving ground of the caribou.

“The outcome of our work is not about what our political masters want. It is about what is demanded of us by 7 billion people. I appeal to all, please, no more delays, no more excuses. Please, let Doha be remembered as the place where we found the political will to turn things around. Please, let 2012 be remembered as the year the world found the courage to find the will to take responsibility for the future we want. I ask of all of us here, if not us, then who? If not now, then when? If not here, then where?’”
