I have a copy of the Dustin book and the Lucas book and was planning on reading them as a fun bonus after season 5 but… that was before the season 5 of it all. Tough to get myself to jump into anything new to me from the official “lore” though I’ve heard decent things about both. One day. Not now or soon but. One day.
Well, yes. It’s kinda hard to conjure up a personality for her when the show barely manages to do anything for her in that department. When someone’s so focused on pulling nonsense outta thin air to flesh out a character like Eleven, who could actually be soooo complicated and nuanced - of course the other characters fall aside. Because to actually do a good Eleven character study you have to face harsh truths and the grey morals and trauma and violence and naivety of her life and the voids of her mind and socialization gaps. It’s a worthy story… but not one suited for teeny-bopper middle school romance-drama. The show barely went there, so to expect that from a tie in novel? Asking a lot. Of course its surface level and vapid and out of character. It’s just giving the basics, and for a younger audience too. Younger audiences still deserve a good story…

Nazli swore to herself that it didn’t mean anything. That it was just what people did when the clock struck midnight on that particular holiday. However, she still had not been able to get it out of her mind. She had to guess, that he wasn’t thinking about it at all. Their interactions had become a lot more brief, though he had presented her with flowers and a card on her birthday from all of the office. But, to continue to prove herself, she decided to work late. She was in the main break room, light on as she stared quietly at one of the papers. The cases she worked on with Berkan broke her heart most of the time. But, she knew that’s why he was so passionate about the work. They were trying to bring happy endings to the children that needed help. Nazli’s eyes scanned the paper, the corners of her lips turned down as she did so, not even noticing that someone else had come into the office.

Another point bringing up on this topic is the general odd obsession online with other people’s hygiene habits. It’s a side effect of social media brain rot and how obsessed with other people’s business everyone is. I see it very pervasively on places like insta and threads - the hygiene and cleaning oppression Olympics. “You don’t do xyz like me when you clean your kitchen? Immoral! You wash this article of clothing with this article of clothing?? Immoral!” That’s a huge culture online. Fighting over routines and products and we all know waaaaay too much about each other while being waaayyyy too comfortable commenting on personal stuff like this…
