Last Stand of the Wreckers #5 (2010)
written by Nick Roche & James Roberts

he exists in the wider world of it yesyes. I’m unsure if he’ll show up in the fic itself but you never know, I do really enjoy his friendship with Drift :) I may end up writing him in if i can fit it in. plus Rodimus and Ratchet and Orion are all pov characters and they all have ties to Percy one way or another
That being said. He’s a scientist rather unsurprisingly! Lab partners with Brainstorm, and friendly enough with Skyfire who also works at the same building as them two. He *does* have a membership to Kup’s gym (aptly named Wreckers Gym) and frequently talks to the “wreckers” (Kup’s inner circle of friends/mentees/kids of which both Whirl and Impactor are also part of! Springer, Arcee and Rodimus also fall under here too. Grimlock is not quite a wrecker, but as per the g1 movie he likes hanging out with Kup :3)
Percy sometimes goes to the gym to work out, but mostly he spends his time at work or at his own personal lab at home. Brainstorm and him may or may not be a thing, no one knows.
Percy and Drift became friends at one point when Percy was getting mugged and Drift saved him, leading to them becoming friends and Drift teaching him some fighting moves for self defense. He also gave Percy a knife from his collection which Percy still has to this day :)
They don’t really keep in touch all that often by the time the fic comes around (in 2024, the incident where they met happened a few years prior) but if they ever were in the same room together they’d be very happy to see each other :)
Omg, well, i imagine it being Dead End who finally admits things but he doesn’t know how to really say it. He stammers awkwardly attempting to admit it. Perceptor is smart enough to piece together what he’s trying to say, he’s equally as awkward but he also reciprocates his feelings in his roundabout way. He holds his hand to really drive home that he does like him. My awkward boys how I love them so. I have a little headcanon that they’re both a little wary of physical touch, at first.
Also, i want to let you know this ask prompted me to write out a nice little chapter of this scenario, i can’t get enough of these cuties.
So Dead End and Perceptor have gotten through the events of the Quintesson, expressing their love for each other and what’s next? The concern is that their position in school is problematic and well… was it all just heat of the moment?
Note this is a sad chapter but the story will get better and Brainstorm is being a sensible person in this chapter not a villain although because of his closeness to Perceptor, Dead End’s always gonna have a slight concern over him.

today is a great day, I was at a toy event near me and was able to get Dead End and I got Perceptor in the mail a day or two ago, they are some on my favorite transformers(thanks to Cyberverse then g1) and I’m very happy to have them

Ya’ll ever think TFA!Perceptor deleting his own emotional parts of his processor is like a reference to a lobotomy?

rahh autobot science teammm
im trynna get used to drawing them traditionally THEN digitally 😼🙏
(added watermark bc im paranoid 💔)
Sure!

• Dangling in your arms, a blanket wrapped around himself, he’s half tempted to point out that he runs hotter than you do and that he’s not cold. But then you might put him down and as much as he doesn’t want to admit it, he’s enjoying being held. Cradled against your softness. Safe and warm. Has he ever felt like this before? Doesn’t really want this to end, even though he’s aware of how dangerous it is for them all to be so small. That it eventually has to end.
[[MORE]]• Hugging Perceptor against yourself, you carry him over to where Wheeljack and Brainstorm are arguing. And something about seeing one of the diminutive bots holding a pencil in two little hands as he jots alien glyphs and math while the other shakes his head, has you smiling despite how serious the situation is. They’re just so cute this size and harmless.
• Watching Brainstorm arguing with Wheeljack’s math, Perceptor clears his vents tiredly. So far, neither of those two has claimed responsibility for this mess. Making him suspect the Decepticons. Though, from what he’s heard, that side is blaming his. “What were the two of you working on before this happened?” He asks and Wheeljack’s vocal indicators flicker pink. ‘Nothing that could have caused this,’ the other scientist insists as Wheeljack’s own caretaker reaches to pat him on the head to make his shoulders slump.
• “By itself, maybe not. But what if this was because of multiple dangerous experiments in close proximity?” Perceptor asks and you have to resist the urge to give him a kiss on the head, because he’s too cute all serious and scientifically reasoning the problem out. While fun sized. “Likely ours and theirs combined,” he adds sounding tired. Theirs meaning the Decepticons.
• Which is his best theory, but he has the feeling that whatever insanity Shockwave was playing with, the deranged scientist isn’t going to admit to it. And asking is likely to antagonize the Decepticons. Though, given the embarrassed silence from most of them, he suspects they might be reluctant to go back to normal anyway. That some of them are enjoying this. Hearing a commotion in the lobby, he grabs at your hand when you turn and several caretakers are moving the furniture they barricaded the doors with. Staring, it takes him a klik to realize the mech dropping to his knees just outside to lower a human to the ground is Metroplex, the massive Titan now the size of a normal Cybertronian. This just keeps getting weirder.
I need more people to consider the idea of disabled Perceptor. Specifically in IDW because…

LOOK AT THE GIANT HOLE IN HIS CHASSIS. HIS SPARK IS GONE. WHERE IS IT. And then like seconds later half his face gets blown off. And so his eye gets obliterated. AND THEN, after some time later, he steps out of the CR chamber and then immediately begins modifying his entire frame. You can’t tell me that doesn’t cause issues

Like if you compare his frame before and after, it’s completely different. He did impromptu surgery on himself (I actually have a slideshow of sorts comparing him at the beginning vs end of lost and found, if yall are curious.) Also. Look at his spark

Look at how small and dim his spark is. And people have tried to tell me that it’s the artstyle, but let me be delusional please. Also, this isn’t the only time his spark has been hurt

So he’s gotta have at least some spark issues. Then also issues with his mods, and the optic he modified. Anyways idk this is a really disjointed ramble. I’m tired but feeling passionate about this
Hi! I doubke checked and yeah they were from issue 15, thank you for telling me! I feel a little stupid not knowing since AHM is something i’ve combed over like 12 times ig I just forgot that Percy and prowl even HAD an interaction which like. Yeah leave it up the them to make them have like, a really important interaction and never bring it up again ever 😭
Over all i think Prowl and Perceptor would have a really great dynamic if they actully cared to idk. Use Perceptor in an effective and meaningfull manner? For a charater who’s so inntellegent his only feasable rival is Brianstorm or (as in most continuities) Shockwave himself. He really get looked over, it’s actully so fucking infurating.
Honestly, I think it’s bc their so focused with the quarky crazy/insane scientist or evil scienist or some other trope simmaler to that. Ratchet being different, but he’s mostly a medic and many forget that Ratchet usualy was or is also an engineer so he kinda gets a free pass. I guess that since Perceptor is the “generally morally sound/good scientist” and overall has a far more passive demeaner is just not as intresting. Which sucks beacuse it tottally can be especially as a contrast to everyone who is lowkey crazy around him, or evil or in like Prowl’s case: Someone who will take advatage of his passiveness/niaveness/morality and use it as a way to manipulate him into doing something he may not agree with or thinks is generally appaling.
For IDW specifically I really need to give credit to @onaegling for putting it into my brain. Shout out to Percy. Also why i took so long to respond to this, Percy’s just the Rodceptor guy in my mind and being the one responding to this makes me nervous. ANYWAY.
Perceptor has been shown hanging out with very few people in the Lost Light– fewer still if you count people he actively speaks to rather than works with. I think we hear more concise conversation between him and Rodimus than we see him and Brainstorm– which, is kind of crazy, when you consider rodimus and perceptor are shown talking in length maybe 5 times.
I bring you 2 main points: Despite Rodimus calling science magic, he is pretty well versed in stuff. I specifically really like this conversation between Perceptor and Rodimus because it implies a level of comfort both of them have with one another: Perceptor can go on an uninterrupted rant and doesn’t feel offended when interrupted, and Rodimus not only understands every bit of science talk Perceptor may be talking about, he also knows Perceptor can explain in simpler terms, and tells him as such. (Rodimus also builds the Lost Light engine from his instructions over the phone– this requires an understanding of the science behind it, and requires a level of patience and understanding of Perceptor’s own vocabulary as well)

Perceptor doesn’t have a lot of relationships in MTMTE that are outright stated. Despite being, theoretically, coworkers, Perceptor tends to talk about brainstorm as someone he has never held a conversation with and vice versa. But his relationship with Rodimus is something that, when you’re looking for it, you find it sprinkled here and there. and it is deeply fascinating to me– they talk very comfortably to one another, and sometimes with a degree of intimacy I reckon isn’t really common for either of them.
Food for thought, though: Perceptor has held Rodimus’ life in his hands twice. That’s 1 more than anyone should be allowed to. He was the one who turned the engines to kill the sparkeater, (which, in the alt, did kill rodimus), and was the one who modified and strapped the killswitch to rodimus without being 100% sure wether itd kill him or not. that’s a lot of trust to put on someone that, before the lost light, you’d had very little in the way of direct interactions with. I also think that its really really sweet that Rodimus wanted perceptor in his ship. That Perceptor being in the Lost Light reignited his love for science. I like to think Rodimus had to remind him he didnt have to be a soldier anymore. that he could be just a guy whos good at something other than killing.
