this might be a stretch but hear me out.
i was listening to MGMT’s “Little Dark Age” album because little dark age is one of my favorite songs ever and I wanted to listen to the whole album. and i highly recommend it it’s really good.
but that’s not the point. the point is,
this album is kinda popular among the byler community because it has the song “Me And Michael” (which is a peak song omg its literally them) and i see millions of byler edits to it.
however, i have come here to propose that another Byler song we can claim is “James”, from the same album.
i think it suits specifically Miwi, and is from Mike’s perspective, especially with these lines:
like we know that Will was ALWAYS at the Wheelers’, probably more than the rest of the Party, and Mike was always there to welcome him in. I hc that whenever Lonnie would get dangerously mad/drunk, Joyce would call Karen and ask if Will could spend the night, and so the Wheelers’ house became a safe space for him. It could also go the other way, since Mike’s at the Byers’ a lot too, minus the danger of an abusive parent.
“If you heed the call / And you go outside, and wander off” could also represent Will getting taken to the Upside Down??
“And we both can say, "Who’s laughing now?”“ Will not wanting to hurt Mike with his love, even before Jane, and Mike’s internalized homophobia preventing him from loving Will back??
"I’m always home” Will always going to Mike’s for safety, and slowly associating Mike as safety? Associating Mike as home???
I dunno i was listening to this and a byler/miwi-colored siren went off in my head so lmk what you all think.
