okay so based on the crystalarium, and the gentleman losing his memory when he lost his grimoire, it’s clear that the octave are collecting people’s memories/lives along with their spells…

originally i was thinking they were only harvesting spells, which is a more simple motivation like okay they want more power, that’s easy, they get a bunch of wizards to kill each other and then take all 64 spells for themselves.

but clearly the memories and stuff are a significant part of this… i mean maybe it’s just that you need all the memories in order to learn the spell? and in order for all members of the octave to be able to use every spell? and what Death said is important- if the person truly died and went to the afterlife, maybe the spell would be lost/inaccessible. so the octave are blocking everyone from going to the afterlife and storing everyone’s minds/memories here in order to keep access to their magic.

It’s reminded me a lot of the hive mind in pluribus, where the majority of population of Earth all merge minds and share memories, and there’s only a few people who aren’t a part of it… If the octave has all this magic and all these memories, and seem to have control over the very afterlife, they probably think themselves invincible and basically all-knowing

I wonder if the boys will be able to escape/take down the octave. Maybe they’ll be able to revive the fallen aspirants (there’s still magic statues of them!)
