Twitter Sold: 15 Lesson From the world richest Billionaire Elon Musk As New Owner of Twitter

Twitter Sold: 15 Lesson From the world richest Billionaire Elon Musk As New Owner of Twitter

To put it gently, Musk is not your usual CEO. He frequently posts memes on Twitter. Instead of the highly polished, PR-team-written speeches that most public company directors issue, he expresses what he is thinking. This may lead him into trouble at times, but in a crowded attention economy, Musk stands out without a doubt.

While you might not feel comfortable being as “out there” as Musk, there is a lesson to be learned. Simply said, doing things the same way everyone else does them will provide the same outcomes. You must be unique if you want to be remarkable. If you want to be noticed, you must be willing to make errors. Some people will detest you if you desire to be recognized.

However, if you can overcome your fear of being evaluated, being unique may have a significant influence on the success of your firm.

Below is the list of lessons from the richest man’s acquisition of Twitter:

15 lessons from Elon Musk the new owner of Twitter

15 lesson learnt from elon musk

Elon Musk new twitter owner

Censorship Eradication.

Musk has been vocal in his criticism of Twitter’s content filtering policies, claiming that the network must be a real forum for free expression. He expressed optimism that even his sharpest detractors would continue to visit the site “because that is what free expression implies.”

Choose strategicness as a weapon.

Elon Musk is an excellent example of why we should be cautious with our time, money, and energy. He had already created a precedent that he was keeping an eye on Twitter by becoming the platform’s largest individual stakeholder, with a $3 billion stake representing 9.2 percent of the company’s shares.

That says a lot in and of itself. Musk is a knowledge-economy hardware supplier who is changing the way we think about electric automobiles, rockets, satellites, and sophisticated battery technology.

Learn to be unpredictable.

Elon Musk did not become Twitter’s largest shareholder just to serve on the board of directors. That would have been a foregone conclusion.

Musk’s stockholders, on the other hand, were outraged and sued him for what they saw as obvious stock price manipulation.

Despite the outcry, Musk repeated his position, stating he’d rather own the entire platform.

Always watch out for lucrative market sectors

Twitter is currently one of the most popular social networks in the world, based on active users, according to latest social media industry figures. In the fourth quarter of 2020, Twitter will have 192 million monetizable daily active users.

Elon Musk has indicated that one of his objectives for owning Twitter is to realize its “great potential,” and that he is not interested in making money from it. He already has a lot of stuff, and multibillionaires have the luxury of prioritizing differently.

Due diligence

Before you invest your money in something, you must first comprehend it. Elon Musk has 83.8 million followers on Twitter. He tweets frequently, sometimes controversially and occasionally disastrously.

The SEC stopped him from tweeting about Tesla after one post knocked $14 billion off its stock price, and he was sued for defamation for a tweet about a cave diver in which he referred to him as a “pedo person” (the cave diver lost).

Despite the rising criticism, Elon Musk has continued to voice his ideas on Twitter.

Being a good negotiator is as valuable as money

Elon Musk’s $44 billion bid for Twitter is simply too good to turn down. The world’s richest man agreed to pay $54.20 per share for the social network prior to the acquisition, but if the firm rejects his non-binding offer, which he describes as “best and final,” he may sell his 9% stake.

One may claim that Elon Musk’s negotiating prowess was a major role in the board of directors’ decision to sell Twitter.

Your first offer should always be the best offer

Elon Musk’s negotiating strategy has been compared to that of billionaire Warren Buffet: make an offer and stick to it.

Musk announced his desire to acquire the firm and take it private on April 14. He’s been amassing shares on Twitter since early this year. The firm used a “poison pill” to prohibit Musk from amassing additional stock and to make it more difficult for him to purchase the company without the board’s agreement.

When news of Musk’s plan to buy Twitter broke, Wall Street was suspicious since he did not provide any information about how he would fund the transaction.

So, how did Musk persuade Twitter to take him up on his offer?

His ability to raise $46.5 billion in finance appears to have shifted leadership’s position from fiercely opposed to seriously contemplating the offer.

According to CNN, CFRA senior equity analyst Angelo Zino stated on Monday that the Twitter board’s change of heart may have resulted “from the Board’s realization that an alternative bid from a ‘white knight’ may be difficult to come by, especially given the recent decline in asset prices from social media companies.”

According to many sources, Twitter was unable to acquire a 'go-shop’ provision in its agreement with Musk, which would have allowed it to explore alternative bids once the contract was inked. Nonetheless, Twitter would be permitted to accept an offer from a third party in exchange for paying Musk a break-up fee.

Be direct and clear with your offer

Buyers who are ambiguous and unclear do not complete transactions. Musk was absolutely open about his goal to purchase Twitter for $44 billion and take it private as soon as he demonstrated interest in doing so. His directness made all the difference in this arrangement; if he had ducked the question and not divulged the specifics of his offer, it would not have been consummated.

Similarly, when making an offer for a firm, it is critical to be absolutely upfront and direct. Companies like potential purchasers that cut to the point and make a firm offer, since it demonstrates that they are serious about the investment and understand the risks of taking on the business.

solid acquisition strategy

As a buyer, you must first establish what you hope to gain from the transaction. It might be expansion, exposure to new markets, competitor elimination, or something else. It might potentially be a mix of several variables. You may develop a smart and strong acquisition strategy by defining your goals and motivations for purchasing.

Musk’s primary reason for the Twitter transaction has been his desire to defend the platform’s freedom of speech. Though Musk has openly questioned numerous other parts of the network, such as its algorithm and lack of an edit button, it’s clear that Musk has more intentions for Twitter after the acquisition than merely protecting its freedom of expression.

His complaints about the platform are exactly what inspired his solid acquisition approach. His outspoken criticism of Twitter over the years has made it plain to the firm that he wants to see change, and he has taken additional actions to demonstrate this, including distributing Twitter polls and purchasing 9.2% of the company’s shares.

Along with proactively securing $46.5 billion in finance, Musk’s method has kept him relevant and effective in his acquisition of the firm.

Clear vision for the future

Musk has demonstrated his readiness and willingness to assume control of Twitter, as well as his reasons for doing so.

One of the most typical value-creating acquisition techniques is to improve the target company’s performance. Simply put, you purchase a firm and drastically cut expenses in order to boost margins and cash flows. The acquirer may also take the initiative to boost revenue growth in specific situations. (The six categories of profitable purchases)

The transaction places the world’s wealthiest person in command of one of the most powerful social media networks. Musk has often stated in recent days that his objective is to improve free expression on Twitter and to “unlock” the platform’s “amazing potential.”

“I invested in Twitter because I believe in its potential to be the global platform for free expression, and I believe free speech is a social requirement for a functioning democracy,” Musk said in an offer letter to Twitter. “However, after making my investment, I’ve realized that the firm, in its current form, can neither prosper nor serve this societal necessity.” Twitter should be spun off as a private corporation.“

Let your pain points lead the way

We all have pain points—problems with a product or service that annoy or frustrate us. Musk has clearly found multiple problems with Twitter, which have led him to take matters into his own hands and make a bid to acquire the firm.

Musk was able to make moves that are paying off nicely for him by listening into his pain points and seeking to address them for himself and other Twitter users. Similarly, other entrepreneurs must identify their own pain points and utilize them as motivation and fuel for their acquisition. Identify the problem that isn’t being addressed, and then hunt for chances to solve this pain point in possible acquisitions. If it’s a source of pain for you, you’re probably passionate about it; and passion is the ideal basis for an acquisition.

Learn to line up financing earlier

Musk is clearly a man with a plan. In a securities filing made public on Thursday, he made an offer and offered documentation to back it up. Many feel it was what influenced the board’s decision.

According to the New York Times, Musk described how he secured finance from Morgan Stanley and a group of other lenders, who were giving $13 billion in debt financing and another $12.5 billion in loans against his Tesla equity. He stated that he will use another $21 billion in cash to purchase the remainder of Twitter’s ownership.

Musk has "acquired $25.5 billion in fully committed debt and margin loan financing and is giving an estimated $21.0 billion equity commitment,” according to Twitter. There are no financial requirements for the deal to close.“

Now go for a business you are familiar with

Musk is intimately acquainted with Twitter. He has openly attacked the firm on several times to his 83.5 million followers as an active user with a rather difficult past with the site.

The change of ownership can be made easier by acquiring a platform with which he already has extensive expertise. Similarly, it would be prudent to purchase a firm with which you are familiar, whether you are an ardent customer of its services or have knowledge in the industry it operates in.

To meet up with his billionaire peers

Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man in 2013, spent $250 million on The Washington Post in August 2013.

Laurene Powell Jobs, CEO of Emerson Collective, later purchased primary ownership of The Atlantic magazine for more than $100 million.

In 2018, it was billionaire Marc Benioff’s turn, when the creator of Salesforce paid $190 million for Time magazine, his personal favorite.

One may argue that Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter is an attempt to enter the ranks of his billionaire contemporaries. However, the transaction much surpasses that of Bezos, Jobs, and Benioff.

Pray for the best. Prepare for the worst. Expect for the unexpected.

May 5, 2020. Day lost-count of WFH and who the hell still cares about it. Regardless of the stay-at-home boredom most people experiencing with, I can say many people start to enjoy it. Some do sedentary things, i.e. baking, cooking, painting, reading, planting; while others explore movie and K-Drama to be enjoyed marathonly, Netflix-ing, or playing Tiktok, so on and so forth. That is one good thing of WFH period– people can use most of their spare time to do things they are barely able to do without WFH period. period.

Let us keep that aside and move to the sad-truth part. The loss of lives and jobs, as well as socio-economic suffering are to name a few unfavorable impacts. I also feel sorry to our Muslim friends who cannot go “mudik” (the tradition to visit hometown and reunite with big family to celebrate Ramadhan) this year. Just hang in there, we all fight together to suppress the spread of the virus to protect people around us, without any compromise. Take a moment as well to think about the healthcare workers and all front liners due to their commitment have to work tirelessly to cure the infectious patients and yet have a chance to get infected. (not to mention, the shortage medical supplies and personal protective equipment.) We cannot let it outspread no more, just can’t. I hate to say I feel upset because of the slow reaction of le government against the spread of COVID. We all know there is always a cost of everything we do or not do, and this time is…HUGE. Stop right here, we know that this ain’t the good time to point the finger at others.

So well, at least we get some lesson-learnt, I hope. It can be firsthand one or not. Well if none yet, there is still some time to figure it out.

I am gonna share a simple message, yet deep, from le second to the biggest boss in my office during our videocon in the 3rd week of April. Not sure why it is still really vivid in my head: “we need to be ready to prepare things when the WFH is over.” Really, this feels like being hit by lightning on a sunny day. After since, I keep thinking that this enjoyable precious WFH moment of ours is not different from a time bomb waiting to explode.

You know, right. Just prepare for the worst to come, expect the unexpected and keep praying for the best.

Birthday lesson

Beberapa hari yang lalu aku ulang tahun. Biasa-biasa aja sih hari ulang tahunku.

Tapi toh nggak ada ruginya, so why not put a little effort to be nice to others in order to make their day a litlle brighter?

A little after-trip update: My beautiful Falkor got his caudal, anal and dorsal fins torn up while I was away, probably while chasing Turqi, who escaped her breeding box, around a good while. Switched plants so now I have more silky and lesser stiff plants in his temporary tank. Both still doing pretty well despite the minor injuries. Betta tails, scales and fins do grow back.

Nala was subdued by the two new crowntail females, even in a bigger tank with lots of hiding places. She has a few scales nipped off but other than that, she’s still quite interactive and sweet.

Moved the crowntails into the Dumbo tank. We’ll see how things go with this group. For now, Nala has the entire tank to herself until I’ve collected her new mate this week. The last one jumped while I was out. Entirely my fault for not placing a lid. #LessonLearnt

Failure

They say failure is one of life’s best lesson. Sometimes things in life are beyond your control and hence no matter what you do some failure will occur. Truth be told you aren’t alone as we all go through similar situations in our own way where we lose and learn. So dont be so hard on yourself as lessons are just that and you have the power to change your situations by focusing on what your good at and learning to work with your misfortunes and your weaknesses. No matter what dont give up on your dreams and if you haven’t found  what your looking for keep going in spite of the challenges thrown your way.Besides failure gives you a chance to start again this time with more knowledge.

So last night I made bbq chicken pieces that @ameliagram_sw recommended and boy were they amazing. So yummy and they felt like a real treat.
Well I had loads left, I always make too much food (wonder why I ended up overweight hey? 🙈😂)
So tonight I made a sort of salad with them. I made my own guacamole, half an avocado, lemon juice, chilli and salt. Except it was horrible. I used 30g of goats cheese which was nice ish, except I realised I much prefer feta. And red onion which was VERY VERY strong and I’ll be tasting onion for a good few days! Why did I mess with a good thing? And why didn’t just read the guac recipe? #lessonlearnt #onionburpsaregross #wasteofsyns

A safe place doesn’t judge
