So my Ornament and Crime came with decent knobs, though nothing to write home about — rubberized things without a position mark to suit the encoders — so I’ve been using them for a little bit. But I may have found knobs even more suited to the job.

These knobs measure about 1.3" (33 mm) across, with a secondary crank set into the face. Like any other knob, you can turn the circumference slowly, one click at a time, but if you’re in a hurry, you can just start twirling the things like you’re reeling in a fish.

(They’re slightly too big, overlapping the adjacent modules by a couple of millimeters, but all the nearby controls are perfectly usable. Less obviously, they’re not perfectly concentric with the encoders. They’re each meant to connect to a straight-shafted multiturn potentiometer with set screws, so instead using those set screws to fix them to these D-shaped shafts put them juuust barely off-center. I may come up with some kind of adapter to fix this later.)
