Simple Money Hacks
Living on your own is tough. I would say stay with your family as long as possible!! Im learning this the hard way. I moved out of my parents house the first year of college at the age of 19. I became an adult way tooooooo fast. Sometimes you just can’t handle it anymore.
Housing- Research, research, research. Look at as many options as possible. Find the best deals. Find the places that have everything you want at the price you want. If you’re going to sign a lease on an apartment, find one that covers as many utilities as possible.
Most of the time apartments cover water, trash, and sewage. That alone is perfect but you’ll never realize how expensive gas is till youre the one paying for it. My tiny one bedroom apartments gas bill on a cold winter day can be up to $140. Find every way possible to avoid turning the heat up.
Back to renting. Go to as many apartment complexes as possible. Look at reviews and how recent each review is. This will help you know how living is there and what kind of people live there. Tour as many apartments possible. DONT ever settle on the first apartment you find, even if it is perfect. Its almost like say yes to the dress. You don’t say yes to the first dress even tho you love it.
Each apartment is different and have their own rules. If you don’t like smoking, find a non smoking apartment. If you have dogs/cats look into each polices. There is a cost for everything. The cost of parking, pet down payment, security down payment, application fees, anything you can think of.
Roommates!!! I know we moved out of our parents house to be alone, but unless youre making over $20 an hour youre screwed. Roomates are great because they cut the costs of everything in half! Find the right perfect. Find someone who likes to clean or in general is not a slob.
