Weekend Watch: WISHIES!!!
Ika nga ng The Pussycat Dolls, “Be careful what you wish for cos you might just get it!”
Wala naman connect, gusto ko lang i-connect. Disney’s WISH is finally out! And to celebrate its release here are some wish-related flicks for ya!
Pinocchio (1940)
What better way to start you movie marathon than the OG movie who taught me to wish, Disney’s Pinocchio. Originally shown in 1940, it’s Disney’s take on the 1883 children’s novel titled, The Adventures of Pinocchio. But, it’s Gepetto’s wish upon a star for his puppet to be alive had become one of the highlights of that movie. Yep, it’s the When You Wish Upon a Star song part that is oh-so nostalgic about that movie! Fun fact: one of my earliest memories is of my dad singing that song as a lullaby (alternating with a Bikol one with lyrics that goes: Paturog na U-wan, si ‘tay mo sa Manawan, nangalot kamote, kamote'ng in-Aswang!) LOL AAAAnyway, check out Sara Bareilles’ rendition of that song for the Disney 100 event!
Hiling (1998)
An ordinary girl gets the power to grant wishes! And what does she do, she grants them! Kaso with all wishes may repercussions talaga. Like, for every wish na natanggap mo, may something talaga na pwedeng mangyari kapag di mo pinag-isipan yung wish mo. Who could ever forget the, “I want to be a MOTHERRR!” line. HAHAHAH!
Puso ng Pasko (1998)
Another hit from 1998! If Hiling was a light watch, Puso ng Pasko leans towards the inspirational genre (well, kasi naman Christmas movie sya so matik inspirational) Anyway, part sya ng MMFF roster that year. It also falls under the Christmas miracle genre-category. Check out, Merry’s Song, Wish-a-wish-a-wish-wish-wish!
Wish Dragon (2021)
Balik tayo sa light animated flick (or is it?? hehe) Wish Dragon is about a Dragon trapped in a teapot who givess three wishes to a boy who finds him. It gave very Asian Aladdin but who cares. All about the representation, baby! Their difference is that the Dragon was trapped in the teapot because he has to do good deeds before he can move on in the afterlife. Pero yun na nga, watch nyo na.
Wish (2023)
So eto na nga, Disney’s much anticipated offering. True to its promise of nostalgia due to the celebration of Disney Studios’ 100th Anniversary, Wish doesn’t disappoint in the feels area. However, the story-telling seemed rushed. Like, the build up towards the climax was just enough but from the climax to the resolution seemed rushed. Rushed not like a rollercoaster coming at you in breakneck speed but a hushed flash with little build up. Parang all that for the villain to be beaten agad agad. Parang dapat may mangyari pa o may ikaaakyat pa. Yung nagclimax ka pero di ka masyado nagorgasm, nakiliti ka lang. Lol weird comparison for a Disney movie pero parang ganun ang feels. They did tug a bit on the heartstrings and made bawi naman sa resolution/ ending. Like, kinda like an opening to a possible sequel or series like Frozen and Tangled. Also, it did good in reminding us to never stop wishing and dreaming but also follow through with real life actions. Over-all, a good movie, could’ve been better but good nonetheless. Watch it yo! And check out the soundtrack too!

I’m very happy and excited to share with all of you my very first fanfic ever!
Half Guy Time™ with the Big Four, half Dorshe/Hiling ensues.
Rated T, 4.1k words, one-shot.
I had never written fanfic before, but the lack of Dorshe/Hiling content in this world made me decide to give it a try. It is also the very first fic in Ao3 focusing on them as main ship, I really hope there will be more fics about them in the future.
I’m really curious to hear opinions about it. Comments are very welcome, I would love to know what you guys think!
