Mama ended up cussing me out (all in good fun) and I had to announce… NO MORE REQUESTS!

Some days caregiving really does feel like raising a toddler again.
They say “once an adult, twice a child,” and baby… it is so true.
Getting Mama to sit still long enough for me to groom her is a whole job by itself. A few days ago I finally got her hair done and her shoes on… and just like that, she popped up and was gone.
Back to walking the halls she went. 😩

People always ask how I knew it was time to put Mama in a facility.
I didn’t.
I wasn’t involved in those conversations.
They also ask how I chose the facility.
I didn’t choose it.
People watch a few clips online and start filling in the blanks with their own assumptions.
But here’s the part that matters…
Even though I didn’t make the decision, I fully supported it!

Sometimes the simplest things become the hardest with dementia.
All I needed Mama to do was take her coat off.
So I kept repeating it… because sometimes it registers and she can do it. Other times, it just doesn’t connect.
She wanted to walk out of her “apartment” with the coat on, and if she left with it… I probably would have never seen it again.
Dementia will humble you. The smallest moments become BIG.

Until then… we are just fine in MY car.
Caregiving doesn’t come with a perfect playbook. Sometimes you just have to work with what you’ve got, keep showing up, and laugh so you don’t cry.

Caregiving While Tired… But Dementia Doesn’t Take a Day Off

Everything is fine.
Mama is fine.
I’m just… tired.
But dementia doesn’t pause for tired, so I show up anyway.
Some days caregiving is laughter.
Some days it’s exhaustion.
Most days it’s both.
And today… I asked Mama to say Happy Tuesday.
She said… “Happy Birthday!” 😂
Caregiving with dementia will humble you, stretch you, and still somehow make you laugh in the middle of it all.
