From the epithet ‘nigricans’ in its botanical name Ixora nigricans which apparently alludes to the dark, reddish-brown stems of its inflorescences. The flowers emit a sweet scent, particularly during the night.
This was taken with the exposure biased 2 stops darker to tone down foliage in the background.

Dendrobium Caesar along the trail up to Burkhill Hall in the National Orchid Garden. Because of the dark undergrowth, the image was under-exposed 2/3 stop to keep highlights.

Dendrobium Ekapol dressing up an intersection in the National Orchid Garden. An attractive hybrid that was said to have burst onto the tropical cut-flower scene in 1982, and found favor both for floral decoration and the pot-plant trade.
