Toronto Fire Services crews on scene at today’s fire at 20 St Joseph Street. Pumper 313 arrived to a small flame showing from the eaves of this building. Crews determined that it was due to faulty wiring and cut the power, which allowed the fire to be extinguished. It did not extend to anywhere else in the building.

Toronto Fire Services crews on scene at a rescue on Lombard Street yesterday. This was dispatched as a trench rescue response, but first-in crews downgraded the response after assessing the scene: A construction worker had fallen down an excavation that was about 150 cm deep. There was no trench collapse. TFS crews then extricated the worker. From what I can tell, it sounds like the worker sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Btw the firefighter walking in front of the ladder truck is Jess, who has been super friendly and supportive. I’m always glad to see her around! Normally she is on Rescue 325 but I guess she was riding the ladder yesterday.

Today, March 5, 2026, marks 1 year since the third alarm fire on Scollard Street in Toronto. I have remastered a selection of the photos that I took at that fire to be more in line with how I edit photos now.
6 townhouses under construction were nearly leveled, and at least 2 more were brutally damaged in a fire that began in the early hours of the morning. It was so hot that cars in front of the houses began to catch fire, and windows across the street shattered. Crews from Station 312 were first in, and they arrived to a wall of flame. A second alarm was immediately called, which would later escalate to a third. Due to the fire already fully engulfing that many structures, thereby becoming very large, the firefighting strategy focused on protecting nearby buildings from catching fire, as well as evacuating any residents in them. Tower 1 was put to work, dumping immense amounts of water on the fire from high above. Despite the truck not being able to be parked very close, Tower 1’s massive boom made up for the distance. Crews remained on scene actively fighting fire for many hours. No injuries occurred at this fire.
Hi! I’m Felix, and I am a fire buff and photographer from Toronto, Canada. I photograph Toronto Fire Services’ operations, but I have no formal or official affiliation with them, or the TPFFA. Photographing the fire service like this is an activity that falls into the category of fire buffing, which has a long history within the culture of firefighting. I have been actively fire buffing since April of 2024.

Above illustration by myself. I’m also an illustrator, when I’m not buffing fires!
I also post on instagram @charged.lines.toronto, which is where the majority of my firefighter audience is. Here on Tumblr is where I can do different kinds of posts that would be incongruous with the format of my instagram. However I also do posts here that resemble the ones on my instagram, I.e. a given post consists of photos from a given incident.
A “charged line” is a bit of firefighting jargon that refers to a hose (“line”) that has been filled (“charged”) with water, ready to be put on a fire. When firefighters get empty hose off their truck, bring said hose to the location of the fire and are then ready to start flowing water, they will usually radio the firefighter at the pump panel and say “charge that line!”
My tagging system for my posts on tumblr is as follows, but keep in mind that I haven’t yet created all the tags used in the system because I haven’t posted anything that would use those tags, but I will update this post when I do.
I tag every post with the type of fire or other incident:
As well as what alarm level the incident was upgraded to:
I also tag every post based on its location, including which command it is in (south/3, east/2, north/1, or west/4):
And what district it is in (11, 12, 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 31, 32, 33, 34, 41, 42, 43, 44).
And even what station’s trucks or crews were in the photos. Here I’ve listed them, categorized by district.

Toronto Fire Services crews and trucks on scene at an elevator rescue last night at 44 Charles Street West. Initially, due to the position of the elevator car, crews determined that it would be necessary to set up rope rescue rigging in the elevator shaft, 30 storeys above the elevator car. However, after setting up that rigging, crews managed to open an elevator door closer to the stuck car, allowing the rescue to take place using a couple ladders rather than the 30-storey rope setup.
Two heavy rescue squads, (S331 and S313) two squad support pumpers (P313 and P143) and a district chief (C33) were on scene at this call, which is a much larger response than a typical, much simpler elevator rescue call which would normally just get a single heavy rescue squad and the closest pumper to take care of any potential medical needs.
Applied to be a librarian at the same time my partner applied to be a firefighter
