Some of the coolest photos I’ve found involving my second favorite plane: the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet. These were taken in 1988 during the COPE Thunder exercise in the Philippines. The pilot shown is Lieutenant Commander Mike Groothousen, assigned to Navay fighter/attack squadron 132 “Privateers”.

The Lockheed XF-90 was designed in response for a US Air Force requirement for a long-range penetration fighter and bomber escort. Two prototypes were built. The design proved to be underpowered and no production order was received. Both prototypes were then used for tests.

A Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet carried out a precision strike on Russian positions in the Zaporizhzhia direction, targeting a command post for drone operators and a combined ammunition and fuel depot, Ukraine’s Air Force reported on June 13.
Meanwhile, there is no confirmed information that Russian troops have entered Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, spokesperson Victor Tregubov of the Khortytsia group of forces told Ukrainian media outlet Suspilne on June 13, refuting earlier claims published by the New York Times (NYT).

Ukraine shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter jet in Russia’s Kursk Oblast on the morning of June 7, the Air Force reported.
Although no details of the operation were disclosed, the downing brings the total number of Russian aircraft destroyed since the start of the full-scale invasion to 414, according to Ukraine’s General Staff.
Ukraine launched a cross-border incursion into Kursk Oblast in August 2024, marking the first large-scale invasion of Russian territory by foreign forces since World War II.
Reinforced by North Korean troops, Russia launched a push to recapture the region in early March, with Ukraine being forced to pull back from much of the initially taken territory, including the town of Sudzha.
The downing of the Su-35 fighter jet also adds to the losses Ukraine has inflicted on the Russian Air Force over the past week.
On June 1, Ukraine launched its Operation Spiderweb, conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), reportedly hitting 41 Russian bomber planes and other aircraft. According to Kyiv, Ukraine inflicted $7 billion in damage and disabled over a third of Russia’s strategic bomber fleet.
The Kyiv Independent could not independently confirm the number of planes allegedly damaged and destroyed by the SBU.
The SBU said 117 drones, launched from concealed trucks positioned across Russian territory, simultaneously struck airfields in at least four regions, including sites thousands of kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
The targeted air bases reportedly housed Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 bombers, essential carriers of long-range cruise missiles used in Moscow’s air strikes on Ukrainian cities.

ALTThe Philippines’ Ambassador the United States (US) Jose Manuel Romualdez said recently that they plan to ask for a Long Term Loan to buy 20 brandnew F-16 Fighter Aircraft and other Defense Equipment from the US Government.
He said that they will soon be discussing the Terms of the Loan with the US. He also said that if the Deal pushes through, the F-16s will be delivered in several Batches just like the Philippines’ acquisition of the S-70i Black Hawk Helicopters.
MY NOTES:
Ambassador Romualdez, who actually acts more like the US’ Ambassador to the Philippines, is referring to the recent offer of the US to the Philippines of 20 F-16C/D Fighting Falcon Block 70/72 Fighter Aircraft that is worth Usd 5.58 billion.
That’s Php 319 billion by the Way, assuming an Exchange Rate of Php 57.17 per US Dollar. Note that the proposed Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge which is 32 km long and is set to be the longest Bridge in the Philippines cost much less than that, only Php 219 billion or around Usd 3.83 billion.
Put it another Way, the Railway Line that China helped fund and build for Laos costs about as much as these F-16 Aircraft, around Usd 6 billion. But that Railway is 414 km long, with around 75 Tunnels and 157 Bridges, and Trains that can run up to 160 kph.
So, instead of spending on our much-needed Infrastructure, we will instead borrow Money to buy such expensive Aircraft that probably won’t be able to get off the Ground if they, their Airbases and their Runways are destroyed by Chinese Missiles anyway in times of War.
When it comes to the US, we really can’t expect anything from them aside from War, War and more WAR!!! I am just shaking my Head for our beloved Philippines right now under this Bangag Administration …
