📸 FIELD CAPTURE REFERENCE SHEET
B/W Subject Index for Process Zine
A working reference guide for capturing images and footage across black-and-white photography (Chinon CE-4 / 35mm film) and video (Sony Handycam CCD-TR680E), aimed at building a visual archive for the Process Zine (and signal // noise) project.
The aesthetic goal: something in the spirit of Aronofsky’s Pi — raw, grainy, high-contrast textures that mirror internal dissonance, confusion, and fragmented perception.
This index is less a shot list, more a field taxonomy — loosely grouped by themes like DIVIDE, INTERFERENCE, BODY AS INTERFACE, etc. It’s designed to help me (and maybe you) notice moments worth capturing: subtle distortions, audio echoes, liminal thresholds, or broken technologies that metaphorically or literally represent deafness, APD, and neurodivergent experience.
📄 Full PDF here: [link]
🖨️ Printed via thermal receipt printer — glitchy, impermanent, tactile.
If you have ideas for other keywords, subject matter, or visual metaphors tied to sensory processing, deaf culture, or communication breakdown — I’d love to hear them. Think of this as an evolving map.

Common Name: Boreal Chickadee
This brown capped member of the Tit family is brown and dull. It lives quietly in the forests of the far North American continent and is non-migratory, so unless you’re unlucky enough to be in Alaska or Canada you probably won’t have to see one. Not that you would probably notice it if you did. It happily visits backyard feeders within its range, but there’s no compelling reason to bother looking.
Fun Fact: Canadians are so bored with this bird that they have tried making it more interesting by inventing fun colloquial names for it, like Chick Chick, Tom-tit, and even Fillady. This doesn’t really help.
Bird Region: North America

California Smug Jerk
Common Name: California Scrub Jay (formerly Western Scrub Jay)
Due to climate change, this smug son of a bitch has expanded its range from California up the western coast of the U.S. into Washington State, and is now regularly disturbing the peace in my back yard with its fucking loud, harsh call.
It used to be called the Western Scrub Jay, but some scientists got bored and decided to divide them into two separate species (California Scrub Jays in coastal areas, and Woodhouse’s Scrub Jays in the interior). Both are still smug fucks.
Bird Region: North America. West Coast. Definitely in the author’s trees.

This wasn’t what I wanted
But sometimes that’s what you get
Yeah, it’s all a whirlwind
The memories are all that’s left
Sometimes I can’t help but wonder
…
But if you ever want to start things over
If you ever want to try again
You can call me anytime of day…
Yeah, you still got a friend

I’m away from my bench for admin for a few weeks, and one of the things I’ve been wanting to do is share some amazing things I’ve bought recently. No freebies just stuff I liked from amazing small sellers #shopsmall #shopindependent So first up is this haul from @atthecherrytree which I got for Maebh (for me)a few weeks back. The guides are stunning and were super handy at the @cacgh01 bug and plant hunt a few weeks back. I think we’ll be using them for years and years and definitely getting more stuff soon There!
There was a bit of a delay in shipping so I even got a bonus of the colouring in book, such fantastic customer service!
