Wait, two of the US Navy’s three Littoral Combat Ships with the Mine Countermeasure Package are in Malaysia right now??
I just… I don’t… They have to be there to join the amphibious group coming from Japan, but they *should* have been pre-positioned in the region because everyone knows Iran will probably mine the straight. It’s kind of Iran’s biggest threat because minesweeping operations will take weeks at best, and possibly even *months,* even after hostilities conclude.
This is just… pathetic. These are novice-level mistakes. This is “midshipman’s first wargame” bad. I just don’t know what to say other than I now have significant doubts as to the competence of the Admiralty. It’s either incompetence or the Admiralty was completely blindsided by this conflict.
I’m not sure which one is more unsettling.
