KSB, the Frankenthal-based manufacturer of pumps and valves, is satisfied with the 2020 financial year, even though order intake, sales revenue and earnings were down on the strong prior year due to the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic. The company expects key financial figures to improve significantly in the 2021 anniversary year.

“Overall, we are satisfied with the past financial year, thanks to the good level of orders on hand, our prompt introduction of measures to reduce costs and a very good second half. Our international production network meant that we were able to meet our delivery obligations at all times, while also allowing us to compensate for the temporary shutdown of individual locations and cushion the decline,” underlines CEO Dr Stephan Timmermann.
The volume of orders received in the 2020 financial year was € 2,143.4 million, € 310.4 million (– 12.6 %) lower than in the previous year. Sales revenue reached € 2,207.9 million, a decrease of € 175.3 million (– 7.4 %). Earnings were likewise down on the back of the lower sales revenue volume. Ebit totalled € 70.2 million (– 38.2 %), propped up by the prompt introduction of savings measures. This already includes special factors from impairment losses on goodwill in the amount of € 11.2 million. By exercising strict working capital management, the net financial position was improved by € 58.5 million to € 305.0 million.
All Regions felt the impact of the downturn, albeit to varying degrees. The Region Europe, by far the strongest in terms of sales revenue, recorded the slightest dip in order intake (– 9.7 % to € 1,173.0 million). A much heavier blow was dealt to the Region Middle East / Africa / Russia with – 19.3 % to € 134.8 million, the Region Americas with – 15.4 % to € 342.0 million and the Region Asia / Pacific with – 15.3 % to € 493.7 million. Orders on hand remained at a very high level at € 1.3 billion (previous year: € 1.4 billion).
Sales revenue in the Pumps, Valves and Service Segments picked up considerably in the second half of the year, but ultimately fell short of the prior-year level. The largest Segment, Pumps, was impacted the least, down 6 % to € 1,468.0 million. This was primarily attributable to a solid order book and long-term projects. The Valves Segment achieved sales revenue of € 335.5 million (– 7.9 %) and the Service Segment € 404.5 million (– 11.4 %). The main causes were deferred service orders due to the coronavirus pandemic and the disposal of French service companies over the course of 2020, which entailed a € 34.5 million decrease.
“We are looking to the 2021 anniversary year with confidence”, says Dr Stephan Timmermann. “The coronavirus pandemic will continue to shape developments, at least the first half of the year. However, we expect business to pick up considerably in the second half of the year. That gives us reason for optimism for the future. Even though the current situation does not yet permit large celebrations, we are looking forward to our 150-year anniversary with pride. The motto “People. Passion. Grundfos delivers strong financial performance in 2020

 
Financial highlights full-year 2020:

After having been significantly impacted by Covid-19 during the first half of 2020, Grundfos returned to stronger sales traction in the second half of 2020 with sales only 1.0 % below 2019. Return on sales reached 9.9 % and in a challenging year, Grundfos maintained a high customer satisfaction score and continued to deliver on its sustainability ambitions.
Return on sales (EBIT/Net turnover) reached 9.9 % for the full year corresponding to Earnings before Interest and Tax (EBIT) of 2,606m DKK. Profitability was impacted by restructuring costs and other non-performance items. Adjusted for these non-performance items Grundfos’ return on sales reached 11.1 %, which is the second highest in the company’s history.
Full year net turnover ended at 26.3bn DKK, corresponding to a decline in sales versus 2019 of 4.4 % when measured in local currencies. A cash flow from operating activities of 3.5bn DKK and an equity ratio of 68.9 % secures financial strength.

Die Wilo Gruppe blickt auf ein erfolgreiches Geschäftsjahr 2019 zurück und verzeichnet den zehnten Umsatzrekord in Folge. Die Umsatzerlöse lagen im vergangenen Jahr bei 1,48 Mrd. Euro und konnten im Vergleich zu 2018 um ein Prozent gesteigert werden. „Wir haben uns in einem herausfordernden, angespannten Marktumfeld behauptet und neben einem Allzeitumsatzhoch auch einen Rekord beim operativen Ergebnis in Höhe von 180,1 Mio. Euro erzielt“, erklärt Oliver Hermes, Vorstandsvorsitzender und CEO der Wilo Gruppe. „Hauptverantwortlich für dieses ausgezeichnete Ergebnis ist das exzellente Wachstum in den Märkten Osteuropas, in Indien und Nordamerika sowie den Ländern Zentralasiens.“ Rückblickend auf die vergangenen zehn Jahre hat die Wilo Gruppe ihre Umsatzerlöse um 60 Prozent gesteigert.
„Den geopolitischen Herausforderungen des vergangenen Jahres mit seinen zunehmend volatilen wirtschaftlichen aber auch politischen Rahmenbedingungen sind wir erfolgreich mit einer konsequenten Umsetzung der digitalen Transformation, dem Ausbau unserer multilateralen Partnerschaften und Netzwerke sowie einer intensivierten Globalisierungsstrategie begegnet und so weiter auf Wachstumskurs geblieben“, erklärt  Hermes. Getragen wurde das hervorragende Ergebnis von einem deutlich überproportionalen Wachstum im Marktsegment Wasserwirtschaft und mit Produkten, Systemen und Lösungen im Bereich Kaltwasseranwendungen. Mehr als die Hälfte der Geschäftstätigkeiten von Wilo bezieht sich mittlerweile auf Nicht-Heizungsanwendungen.
Gesteigerte Profitabilität und hohe Investitionen
„Wir haben unsere Profitabilität zweistellig um mehr als zehn Prozent gesteigert und so auch in unserem operativen Ergebnis, gemessen an der international gängigen Schlüsselkennzahl EBITDA, ein Allzeithoch erreicht“, so Hermes. Eine zusätzliche Bestmarke konnte 2019 beim Cashflow aus der operativen Geschäftstätigkeit erzielt werden: mit knapp 170 Mio. Euro wurde dieser im Vergleich zum Vorjahr mehr als verdoppelt. Zudem hat das Dortmunder Technologieunternehmen auch im vergangenen Jahr kraftvoll in die Zukunft investiert: „Wir haben in den letzten zehn Jahren ein Investitionsvolumen von einer Milliarde Euro gestemmt, allein in 2019 haben wir einen Betrag in Höhe von 155 Millionen Euro investiert, was einer Quote von mehr als zehn Prozent entspricht,“ sagt der Vorstandsvorsitzende und CEO der Wilo Gruppe. Die Investitionsaktivitäten setzen sich unter anderem zusammen aus der zukunftsorientierten Erweiterung von Produktionskapazitäten – sichtbarstes Zeichen ist hier der Bau und Bezug des WiloParks am Stammsitz in Dortmund –, dem Ausbau der Vertriebsinfrastruktur, dem Erwerb von Unternehmen in unterschiedlichen Ländern sowie der Umsetzung der digitalen Transformation.
Klimaschutz und digitale Transformation als Innovationstreiber
Unabhängig von geopolitischen Unsicherheiten und zu entwickelnden regionalen Strategien werden zwei Themen die Industrie- und Technologieunternehmen in den kommenden Jahren dominieren: Klimaschutz und digitale Transformation.
„Die Wilo Gruppe leistet einen wichtigen Beitrag, um den Klimawandel zu entschleunigen und die weltweiten Klimaschutzziele zu erreichen“, so Hermes. „Wir sind ein Klimaschutz-Unternehmen. Klimaschutz ist Bestandteil unseres Geschäftsmodells.“ Die digitale Transformation der Unternehmensgruppe treibt Wilo entlang der vier Dimensionen Produkte und Lösungen, Prozesse und Geschäftsmodelle sowie Mitarbeiter konsequent voran. Der Umzug in die neue Wilo Smart Factory, der ersten digitalen Fabrik innerhalb der Wilo Welt, ist so gut wie abgeschlossen: „Wir setzen hier ganz auf Industrie-4.0-Standards und Prozesse, die in der neuen Dekade in allen Produktionsstätten ausgerollt werden“, erklärt  Hermes.
Coronavirus als globale Herausforderung
Vor dem Hintergrund der durch die Corona-Pandemie hervorgerufenen aktuellen Krise sieht Oliver Hermes starke Unsicherheiten auf die Weltwirtschaft zukommen: „Für das laufende Jahr wird sich die zu erwartende weitere Ausweitung des Coronavirus zu einem erheblichen Belastungsfaktor für die Weltwirtschaft entwickeln“, ist sich Oliver Hermes sicher. „Oberste Priorität all unserer aktuellen und zukünftigen Maßnahmen haben die Minimierung der gesundheitlichen Risiken für die Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter sowie die Begrenzung der wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen auf das Unternehmen.“ Trotz der zunehmend angespannten weltwirtschaftlichen Gesamtsituation sieht Hermes die Wilo Gruppe für die Zukunft gut aufgestellt: „Die Aussichten für das Jahr 2020 haben sich weltweit eingetrübt. Trotzdem gehen wir weiterhin mit Zuversicht in das neue Jahrzehnt.“
