A/N: You can find Day 7 here!
Day 8
SPLASH!
“I’m going down THAT slide next!” Senjuro called out excitedly as he emerged from the pool of the last slide he went down. There were several of varying lengths and he was excited to try each and every one of them. Kyojuro, who was a massive child himself, was totally going to go down every slide whether Senjuro had begged him to or not, so he too was all for it.
“Are you coming ___!?” They asked in unison making you giggle like a child yourself.
“Absolutely.”
And so your trio went around trying out all, and I do mean all the slides there were to offer.
“This is the best day EVER!” Senjuro cheered and hugged you. “I love you guys.”
Your heart melted. “We love you too Sen.” You said hugging him back. Kyojuro pulled you both into a hug and ruffled Sen’s hair.
“Are you his mom?” A little girl asked curiously from a little ways away.
“You both look so young!” A lady said from her right, assumedly the child’s mother, as she looked between you and Kyojuro. “Tho he does look just like you.”
“No, we’re not his parents.” You replied blushing. “This is actually his older brother.”
“Oh! My mistake! Well for the record whether you’re parents or not you make a lovely couple. I couldn’t help but notice you three going all around the place doing everything together and it was the sweetest thing I’ve seen in a minute!”
You blushed harder and were going to deny being a couple when Kyojuro cheerfully thanked her and wished her well.
She smiled and waved before leaving to take her own daughter down the slide.
“Do you wanna play?” Another kid came up and asked Sen not moments later.
Senjuro shyly looked up at you and you gave him a smile and nudged him forward. “Go ahead kiddo, we’ll be right here or by the pool’s edge, okay?”
“Okay.” Senjuro said still a little hesitant. He looked to the boy. “My name is Senjuro.” He said shyly.
“My name is Genya!” The black haired child replied. “I have water guns! You want one?!”
“O-Okay!” Senjuro said perking up a bit, and the two rushed off together to play.
Kyojuro wrapped his arms around you from behind as you both watched them splash through the pool.
“Are you sure this is okay?” You asked laying your arms on top of his.
“No one knows us here, why not enjoy time as a couple?” He replied kissing your cheek. “I like the way this swimsuit looks on you by the way.”
You knew he would, you picked it out specifically with him in mind. The swimsuit was cutesy in design, a soft blue two piece that showed off a good amount of cleavage while still being a little more modest than a full blown bikini top, and the bottom looked like a tiny ruffled skirt that stopped just before the panty line. Kyojuro seemed to like you in cute looking things and this was the cutest one they had. “Thanks Kyo. And yeah, maybe we can loosen up a little here. At least for now.”
And so, the pool day was a success filled with splashing and playing for all three of you… But of course—
“Genya is leaving with his big brother to get snacks!” Senjuro called out as he splashed back over to where you and Kyojuro were relaxing together.
“Did you have fun?” Kyojuro asked.
“Yeah, but I’m ready for a snack—”
“Aren’t you three Shinjuro’s kids?” Someone asked from behind you.
All three of you turned to see Genya holding the hand of a guy your age who was walking along the side of the pool toward the exit. His face had a prominent scar and he his lavender eyes dropped down to where Kyojuro’s arm encircled your waist, securing you to his side, and made a face.
“I’m not Shinjuro’s kid.” You blurted out seeing his look of disgust.
“Ah. Not what I was told, but whatever.” He said his face shifting into one that showed he couldn’t give less of a fuck at that point.
Genya’s eyes lit up. “Oh cool! That means your Dad works with our Mom! She’s just got the promotion—”
“Come on Genya, we still need to change in time for the dinner later.” The older male interrupted.
“What’s your name?” Kyojuro asked seriously.
“Does it matter?” He remarked.
“Hey, that’s my friend’s family. We should be nicer.” Genya said in a soft voice as he tugged on his brother’s arm.
“Hn.” Sanemi glanced down at his younger brother and then back to Kyojuro. “My name is Sanemi.” Without waiting for a reply he turned and tugged Genya along with him, who waved clumsily over his shoulder at you all.
A sinking feeling of dread settled in your stomach. Was he the gossiping type? Would this be the beginning of a rumor you didn’t need? Would this not only make it back to Shinjuro, but put a negative mark on his reputation due to everyone else’s assumptions of you and Kyojuro’s relationship?
Senjuro studied your face. “Are we in trouble?”
Kyojuro nudged you lightly and you looked over, his brilliant smile making you wonder if he was even half as worried as you were. “Of course not Sen,” He said resting his hand on the boy’s head. “How about we go get you a quick snack and then rest a while.”
Senjuro’s face lit up at the thought of a snack, but fell again into a look of contemplation as he looked to you. “Do you want a snack too ___?” He asked hesitantly.
“I’ll have whatever you’re having!” You replied in your best carefree voice. He seemed relieved to hear that and the three of you trudged out of the water together and made your way back to the hotel section of the resort.
You made it back to your room and changed into a black A-line skirt and a crème colored long sleeve shirt with decorative buttons on the front. Shinjuro gave very specific instructions for what to pack and so only your best business-casual clothing was here, not counting PJs of course.
There was a soft knock on the door and you stepped out to see the siblings in matching outfits. Both in short sleeves and black jeans, granted Senjuro was still cold from walking in the airconditioned building after the pool so he also wore a dark grey plaid shirt over it with the buttons undone. Kyojuro smiled at you and you felt your stomach flutter with nervous energy. “You ready?” He asked.
“Yes.”
The three of you settled on ice cream—a fan favorite treat for Sen— though afterwards you and Kyojuro could tell the little guy had the exhaustion of the day catching up with him.
“My father just messaged me, we’ll be expected at a dinner tonight.” Kyojuro said as the three of you started walking back to the rooms once again.
“You think that was the dinner Sanemi was talking about?” You asked anxiously.
“Could be.” Kyojuro said. He paused as Senjuro stumbled a few steps. “Do you need me to carry you Sen?”
“Yes please.” He mumbled, rubbing his eyes. Kyojuro smiled and knelt down, allowing Sen to get on his back. Once he was settled, Kyojuro stood and began walking again as Sen laid his head down between his shoulders.
“We should let Sen have a nap before we head down, the dinner isn’t until seven so we have a couple of hours.” Kyojuro suggested, and you nodded in agreement.
“I don’t—” Yaaaaawn. “Need a nap…” Senjuro tried to protest despite his half lidded expression.
“Of course not.” Kyojuro chuckled. “Maybe we could just lay down and relax for a bit then?”
“Well…I guess that’s okay.” Senjuro agreed letting out another yawn.
~~~
Senjuro was asleep the moment his head hit the pillow in his room, and you and Kyojuro slipped back through the adjoining door into your room where the pair of you exhaled sighs as you let the exhaustion of the long day wash over you. “How are you feeling?” Kyojuro asked coming over to the bed you had flopped backwards onto.
“Nervous. We have no idea what kind of rumors Sanemi might spread to your Dad or his business partners.” You admitted with a groan as you held one of the four fluffy pillows on the bed over your face. This was stressful. “He’s bound to say something.” Your words came out muffled but you made sure to say them loud enough for him to hear anyway.
You felt the bed dip next to you. “That may be true.” Kyojuro gently pried the pillow away out of your arms. “But he also might not say anything.”
“You don’t think Sanemi is the type to gossip?”
He sighed. “I don’t think so, he didn’t seem very keen on talking in general; but it’s hard to be sure.”
“Maybe we should have been more careful.” You said feeling a touch guilty. The people who would suffer most from some weird rumors about the assumed “adopted” girl in a secret relationship with the son of said family would be Kyojuro and Shinjuro (and you weren’t even formally adopted! Just a kid who happened to live with her best-friend-turned-boyfriend, not that that was clear apparently by the look Sanemi gave you initially). Shinjuro “not knowing what was going on in his own house” could be seen as serious incompetency and lack of situational awareness, it could jeopardize a lot in his line of work.
Kyojuro laid on his side facing you and you turned your head to lock eyes with him. He gave you a small reassuring smile. “You’re thinking to much.” He said simply.
“But—”
“Whatever happens, we’ll handle with it when the time comes.”
“What about your Dad though?”
Kyojuro frowned for just a moment then gave you an even bigger smile. “He’s handled worse news.” He shifted closer and kissed you. “And besides, I have a feeling things aren’t as bad as you think.”
“Hmm…maybe.” You replied doubtfully. “I wish I could be as positive about everything as you are Kyo.”
“It’s easy to be positive when I know whatever comes we will handle together, as we’ve always done. Besides,” He grinned. “No matter what happens you’re mine at the end of the day. Everything else will fall into place!” A touch of mischief graced those brilliant flame-colored eyes of his. “Should I take your mind off of it in the meantime?”
You scoffed but couldn’t help the small smile that played at the edges of your lips. “Is that really the best idea?” You said then whispered. “Sen is right next door!”
His eyes seemed to practically glow with intent and lowered his voice as well. “I already locked it. We can unlock it when we’re done.”
“Were you planning this?!” You whisper laughed. This felt like when you were kids keeping an amusing secret between yourselves.
He gave you a look of feigned innocence. “I have no idea what you mean princess.” He replied giving you a small peck on the lips.
“Oh yeah right.” You giggled and then kissed him back.
He pulled you closer until your bodies were pressed against each other, chest to chest and lowered his hand down your back to your ass, cupping it through the fabric of your skirt. “Did you have fun today?”
“Of course.” You said, your lips brushing against each other’s as you spoke.
“Then it was worth every risk.” He decided. “Just like this is worth the risk.” He continued as he let his hand slip beneath your skirt. His fingers trailed the hem of your panties and your breath hitched. That familiar heat filled his eyes. He shifted you both so you were on your back with him above you. He lifted your skirt until it was bunched around your waist and gently pushed your legs apart before settling in between them. His weight was warm and grounding. But..
“Kyojuro,” You started, your body letting out a small shudder as his hands trailed up your bare legs. “We have a dinner we need to get to soon—” One hand slipped to your inner thigh and then between your bodies, rubbing against a slightly damp spot that was bound to get worse as he continued stroking you through your panties. The sensation made you let out a small gasp.
“Sounds like you want me to make this a quick one.” He purred as he hooked his fingers around the bottom of your panties and pulled them aside. Before you could protest about that not being what you meant you felt two fingers plunge inside your now pulsing heat. “I promise to try to be quick then my flame.”
“T-tr-y?” You stammered. The smirk he gave you said he was not committed to the idea of being quick and thus “try” was all the reassurance you were getting from him. “Kyo-“ He slotted his mouth against yours cutting off any protests you might have. His fingers curled inside you eliciting whimpers and moans as your body squirmed, hips lifting toward him. You could feel that self-satisfied smirk against your lips even as he dragged his tongue along the opening of your mouth. The moment your lips parted his familiar taste filled your mouth as his tongue playfully swept over yours.
His fingers continued to pump in and out of you as he dominated your mouth. His other hand reached up and cupped your breast for a few seconds before deciding the shirt was in the way, and slipped down beneath the fabric of the shirt. He pushed your bra up so he could feel you completely, his thumb playing with your nipple as you writhed beneath his touch. You were putty in his hands, always would be.
Your hands pushed up under his shirt, feeling the tight abs and muscle as they went. He was mouthwateringly good in every way, and soon you had gone from protesting to wanting to skip the dinner altogether, whatever problems that may cause later.
His fingers picked up speed and you felt yourself closing in on your first orgasm. You panted against his lips and he chuckled. “You sure you still want me to rush?”
“N-nnn-not a f-fair time to ah-ask!” You half whined half moaned.
“Oh?” He teased. “Am I distracting you?”
“Yes.” you managed to choke out, your fingers digging into the firm muscles of his back as he hit a particularly sensitive spot.
He didn’t pull away; instead, he doubled down, bringing you over the edge with his touch alone. “You should steady your breathing and try to focus, it’s only going to get harder.” He said pretending to be helpful. His eyes dropped down to the small puddle you left on the bed and he couldn’t have looked more pleased with himself in that moment. His hands went to his pants and began easing them down at a terrible slow pace. “Still in a rush.”
You bit your bottom lip as you watched him then realized he was teasing you yet again and huffed. “You are such a handful.” You told him as you reached forward and pulled his pants the rest of the way down. His cock sprung forward already hard and with precum beading at the tip and dripping with need.
“You are impatient my love.” He chuckled as he leaned over and kissed your forehead. Then he leaned you back and pulled off those delicate panties of yours. You expected him to line himself up with you and finally settle this aching need that was already back to building up inside you, instead he bent forward and pressed his tongue flat against your slit and ever so slowly dragged it up before plunging inside of you, lapping at your entrance and delving into that sweet heat as you gasped. You gripped his shoulders as he swirled and dipped his tongue in and out of you, savoring the flavor and every tremor it caused you.
“Kyo please.” You moaned as your hips raised to meet his mouth. His hands gripped your hips and pinned you to the bed, letting you struggle against his face as he took his sweet time and refused to let you off early. Dinner be damned you couldn’t take this torture. His name continued to tumble pleadingly from your lips, one hand tangling in his hair as he sucked and teased your clit with his tongue.
Once you were once again close to the edge from all his teasing he pulled back and sat up, leaving you desperate and frustrated. “You’re so meeean.” You whined staring up at his slick covered mouth.
“Am I?” He asked tilting his head as if he were again the picture of innocence. “I suppose a promise is a promise, come here love.” He pulled you down to him and lined himself up with your sex. He didn’t just slide in; he surged, a deep and authoritative thrust that forced a muffled cry from your throat. You immediately buried your face in the crook of his neck, your teeth grazing his skin to keep the sound from traveling through the wall.
“There,” he groaned, his voice thick and low, all traces of playfulness finally replaced by raw, unbridled need. “Better?”
“Y-yes.” you managed to gasp, your legs locking around his waist to pull him even deeper.
He began to move with a rhythmic, powerful drive, his hands sliding up from your hips to interlacing his fingers with yours, pinning your hands to the pillow on either side of your head. He was a pillar of heat above you, his golden-red hair falling like a curtain around your faces, creating a private world where the only thing that existed was friction and fire.
The bed creaked—a rhythmic, traitorous sound—and you froze for a split second, eyes wide. Kyojuro didn’t stop, but he slowed slightly, leaning down to press his lips against your ear.
“We can always claim I was helping you move furniture if he wakes up.” He whispered playfully. “And you just couldn’t decide where you wanted the bed of course.”
You giggled at the absurdity of such an idea. “Yeah right like that would work.”
“Then I guess you should try not to be any louder than we already are.” He said, the playfulness in his voice edged with velvety desire. “But I only promised to be fast, not nice.” He finished and thrust inside you with even more force, ignoring the squeaky protest of the bed.
His thrusts became faster, deeper, rough in a way that had you biting your lip to keep from crying out. You writhed, moans growing louder despite your attempts to muffle them. He started to hit that perfect spot inside you, the one he always seemed to find and drive you crazy with. “Kyooo—” You whined, nails digging into his shoulders as he quietly whispered all the things he intended to do to you after dinner. Offers to secretly share a room during the whole trip so he could have you whenever he wanted. Promises to find places where you could be as loud as you wanted..
The tension coiled so tightly in your lower belly that it felt like a physical weight. You watched him, pupils blown wide with a mix of adoration and hunger, until the world finally splintered. You arched beneath him, your vision blurring as a wave of heat crashed over you. Kyojuro followed a second later, thick hot ropes of cum splattering your insides and filling you in every way you wanted—needed—in that moment. His name had tumbled off your lips, louder than you meant and yet no where near as loud as it would’ve been at home, showing you had at least some degree of restraint. He let out a soft groan, lowering himself on top of you and basking in the feeling of completeness that fell over him every time your bodies joined like this.
“Whatever happens,” Kyojuro said holding you close and making sure not to pull out just yet. “we’ll be fine. I promise.” And if it’s one thing you knew about Kyojuro, he never breaks a promise.
(Part 6 here!)
Day 7
“Come on Sen!”
“But Kyojuro isn’t here yet..?”
“He’s meeting us at the airport!”
“Ohhhhhh.”
You were doing your best to get Sen up and ready to go, but kiddo was admittedly out of it. It didn’t help that the plane ride was at five in the morning to be fair. Sen loved school to death and was a ray of sunshine by seven most mornings, but at three? Poor kid was dead tired, and the pre-vacation excitement that kept him up late into the night was definitely not helping. Well, it couldn’t be helped.
You started to manually get him into his outfit of the day as he yawned, rubbed his eyes, whined about it still being dark outside, but never once fought you otherwise. He looked adorable in his little white button up shirt and navy blue slacks. There was a blazer to match, but you were saving that for right before you left the house. This morning was windy outside and had a slight chill as the cold weather began to slowly creep in; though the days were thankfully still very warm for now.
“Are you two ready?” Shinjuro asked from down the hallway.
“Almost!” You called back as you pulled Senjuro, still half asleep, to his feet. “Just twenty more minutes or so and we will DEFINITELY be good to go!”
“We leave in thirty whether you are ready or not.” Shinjuro replied as he carried on his way double checking his own bags. “Don’t forget to wear the outfit I gave you two days ago, the plane ride will have several of my colleagues on it and I want all of you to make a good first impression.”
“Will do!” You called back as you brushed your fingers through Sen’s hair in an effort to get it to sit properly. Thankfully his hair was short and looked good messy, still you knew Shinjuro would want him looking as proper as possible, so you picked the tired boy up and carried him to your own room where you intended to grab your brush and fuss a bit more with his hair.
After some time you finally managed to get some of those wild curls pulled back into a short pony tail and couldn’t help but gush looking at him. “You look like such a big kid Sen!!” You cooed pulling him into a tight hug and smooshing your cheek against his. “You’re so handsoooome!”
“Hey! I AM a big kid!” He protested, cheeks flushing slightly. “And you’re squishing me big sis!”
“Ahhhh I know I know. You just look so much like your big brother with your hair like that!” You continued as you squeezed him just a little harder before finally letting the poor child breathe.
“Do you really think so?” Senjuro asked turning and rushing over to your mirror. He looked himself over and smiled a little. “Yeah, I guess I do look more like him.” He replied with a note of pride in his voice. He turned to look over his shoulder at you. “Do you think he’ll like it?”
“He’ll love it, just like I do!” You said giving a thumbs up.
“Twenty minutes!” Shinjuro called causing you both to momentarily freeze and then scramble to keep getting ready.
“Did you pack some books in your book bag in case you get bored on the flight? And remember to get your stuffed dragon so you have something to sleep with in case you get restless at night.” You said quickly as you ushered him out of the door. “And don’t forget to brush your teeth this morning just because it’s a little hectic! I’ll be out in a few!” Once he was out and the door shut you ran to your closet and took out a black garment back that Shinjuro had given to you. He’d told you not to open it until today when it was time to put it on, which he claimed was because he didn’t want to chance it getting dirty, but truthfully you had a sneaking suspicion he just wanted it to be a surprise.
You carefully removed the garment, filled with the curiosity of what it would look like, and let out a small gasp when you saw it. It was a lovely navy blue dress, off shoulder short sleeves and a built in dark blue-black petticoat that fluffed out the knee length skirts, the lace trim of which peeked out tastefully from the bottom. There were also a pair of dark blue knee-high tights and in a small plastic bag pinned to the dress was a pair of gold earrings with deep blue sapphires.
Okay. He was clearly VERY serious about these first impressions. While Shinjuro always made sure you had an allowance to afford fancy clothes if you wanted, he never really forced you or Kyojuro to wear them, except for special events, so contrary to what some might believe about living in the Rengoku estate, it was more casual than it was flounce and ties. Well, it was always business with Shinjuro, but he was a busy man running a massive company. So. You know.
You dressed up, put on some nice black flats for practicality, and added a little makeup for good measure. You definitely looked good if you did say so yourself.
Once you got over your awe you quickly rushed out into the hall and nearly ran right into Senjuro.
“Father sai—” He let out a tiny gasp and then beamed up at you. “You look amazing!”
You blushed. “Thanks Sen.” You replied ruffling his hair. “What were you saying?”
“Oh yeah! Father said the bags are loaded up and the driver is waiting!” Senjuro replied. “He wants you to hurry your butt up!”
“Did he say those exact words?”
“Not exactly.”
“Ah. Well lets not hold him up any longer!”
“Yeah! Kyojuro is going to be waiting too!” He said with excitement. Then his eyes sparked with a touch of that familiar mischief. “I think he’ll LOVE your dress!” He whisper yelled. We would have to work on his whispering skills. Still, your face flushed a brighter red making him giggle; you quickly spun the boy around and began gently pushing him forward.
“Off you go wingman.”
~ ~ ~ ~
When you arrived at the airport Kyojuro was already there, and it was clear that one way or another Shinjuro got him a specific outfit he was meant to wear as well. And damn did he clean up nice. He wore a button up white shirt like Senjuro and navy dress pants, he held the blazer slung over his shoulder casually as he stood to the side and scrolled on his phone, seemingly amused by whatever he was seeing. When he looked up from his phone his eyes immediately locked on you as if he could sense your presence a mile away. His entire face lit up, eyes bright as though a quiet but infinitely warm flame burned inside them. The grin on his face was infectious and you felt yourself return it instantly. You wanted to run to him, to have him scoop you up in his arms the way he often did when his dad wasn’t present.
Ooooooh but he was present.
Kyojuro’s eyes drifted to Sen on your left and then his father on your right; that’s when he schooled his expression into a more casual kind of smile.
“Hello father, ____, Sen!” He said in his usual loud voice. A couple of onlookers turned and eyed your group briefly before resuming their own business. “I’ve missed you all!”
Senjuro rushed over and threw his arms around his brother. “We missed you too!”
“Always do.” You added as Kyojuro ruffled the boy’s hair affectionately.
“Hey stop!” Senjuro said suddenly pulling his brother’s hand away. Kyojuro tilted his head in confusion.
“Don’t you see it?” Senjuro asked with a serious expression.
Kyojuro stared long and hard at his brother then a look a realization clicked onto his face. “Your hair’s pulled back today! You’re not stealing my style are you?” He joked.
Senjuro seemed elated that his brother noticed. “Yes!”
“Alright you three, this is a business trip.” Shinjuro cut in serious as always. “Son.” He said eyeing Kyojuro, who reflexively straightened under his gaze. “The look suits you.” Kyojuro’s eyes widened a fraction at the compliment. “Stay focused.” Shinjuro finished turning away from him and heading off. “Come now, we’ll be boarding soon enough.”
First class seats were quite a pleasure when it came to long flights, granted this one was only a few hours, but still. What wasn’t a pleasure was being formally seated with the rest of the adults in a half get-to-know-each other, half business meeting event where you, Kyojuro and even Senjuro were asked a myriad of questions that felt more like fishing for information than it did small talk.
What school are you attending?
Getting good grades?
What job do you intend to have?
Kyojuro’s eyes flicked to his father’s when he was asked that question and you felt your stomach knot. Here it was, one of the biggest point of contention between the two.
“My son, ambitious as he is, is interested in a great many things. Of course the family business will remain in the family.” Shinjuro swiftly answered for him. His reply neither confirmed nor denied anything that would make the company out to be in rocky waters without a potential heir; but it also meant that if and when Kyojuro still stubbornly decided he’d be making his own legacy that Shinjuro wouldn’t look like his son pulled one over on him in terms of a career choice.
Kyojuro smiled politely but you noticed the closed off look in his eyes. Work politics were something he personally found trivial and tiring, one reason he had no intention of joining the cutthroat world of business. You wanted to hold his hand and remind him the plane ride was almost halfway over, but you knew better than to be outwardly affectionate in a pool of sharks. You’d already been asked in a round about way if you were ever formally adopted and what your official standing was with the Rengoku family. You weren’t sure your heart could take it if they started asking more personal details about you and Kyojuro’s relationship.
Thankfully the ride did end eventually, albeit feeling like it took several hours longer than it really did. And soon enough there were men unloading your luggage for you and bringing it to your rooms. Once you split off from his business partners Shinjuro quietly remarked that all of you preformed fairly well all things considered, and he expected just as much if not more effort to be put in for the remainder of the trip.
Still a compliment…kinda. That means something right?
“I have a meeting to attend.” He continued as you all walked down immaculate ocean themed halls.
“Already?” Kyojuro asked.
“Yes, Kyojuro. And it is a meeting the heir of the company should be attending as well come to think of it.” He finished.
“…Father.” Kyojuro said softly.
“Nevermind it this time. There’s a limited number of seats and I didn’t initially plan on you coming. It would be better for you to unpack your things and get settled. You three can do as you like for the rest of today—”
“Like go to the pool?!” Senjuro asked hopefully.
Shinjuro eyed the boy with a small frown. “…yes. I suppose ‘like the pool’. But remember Senjuro no matter where you go or what you do you are upholding the Rengoku namesake. Be on your best behavior at all times.”
“Yes father!” Senjuro replied excitedly, no doubt the words went in one ear and out the other.
And just like that, you were splitting off at a three way intersection. The hall to the right morphing into a more professional look, with dark blue carpeting, cream colored walls with gold waves painted onto them and signs saying something about conference rooms ahead. The hall to the left seemed to continue the current theme of pearly light blue and gold wallpaper with deep blue outlines of mermaids, fish, and other sea creatures and a white tiled floor. “Fun Awaits!” was printed in a whimsical font on a sign in front of the arched entryway.
Then there was the path forward, it lead to white stairs and a sign that said “Guest rooms ahead!”
Without further ado, the three of you began climbing the stairs…
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
You let out a loud sigh as you dropped into an undignified heap of skirts and proceeded to stretch all the way out across the king sized bed. This was heaven after a long and uncomfortable plane ride! You had your own room with a door that connected to Senjuro’s in case he needed anything in the middle of the night (you were still his caretaker while Shinjuro worked afterall). And then across from your room was Kyojuro’s and next to his was Shinjuro’s. Your room of course had all the amenities from a small personal kitchen to laundry facilities. It was like a tiny one room apartment!
That thought got to thinking about how nice it would have been to have Kyojuro and you share a room. Your own mini apartment for three whole days together. You blushed as your thoughts ran a bit wild with the concept until there was a small knock on the door. “Come in!” You called straightening up a bit.
Kyojuro stepped inside with a bouncy Senjuro coming in after him. “Are you settling in okay?” He asked shutting the door behind them.
“Yeah! I mean, I haven’t done anything yet but all my stuff seems to have made it here in one piece!” You said enthusiastically.
“Great! You packed a swimsuit right!?” Senjuro asked flopping onto your bed.
“Of course.” You laughed. “Though your hair might get a bit wild again after a dip in the pool, are you okay with that?”
“Yeaaaah.” He giggled.
“I’m glad to see you so excited Sen, I promise we’ll do as much fun stuff as we can before we have to leave, okay?” Kyojuro said with a grin.
Senjuro popped up as if just remembering something. “Oh yeah!” He turned and ran back over and tackled Kyojuro, successfully knocking them both off balance. “I’m so happy for you!!”
“For..me?” Kyojuro asked completely unbothered by being knocked to the floor or the small child still clinging to him after doing it.
“You’re both getting married ___!” Sen cheered
“We are?!” Kyojuro asked somehow sounding as excited as he did confused.
“____ says so!” He continued.
“I DID NOT!”
“She did, did she?” Kyojuro let out a boisterous laugh.
“I SAID I DIDN’T!!!”
“Yeah huh!” Senjuro said turning to you. “You said you loved him! You HAVE to get married now…” Then as an afterthought added. “After school.”
The intense look of heat and mischief that filled his eyes at that had you blushing harder than you had in a while. “Well did you say that?” He asked smoothly.
You buried your face in your hands. “…yes.”
“See! I know the secret!” Senjuro said sounding unbearably pleased with himself. “But don’t worry, I won’t tell father!”
“Good job Sen.” Kyojuro said ruffling his hair.
“So you are getting married right?” Senjuro asked innocently. “Because she’s Cinderella and you’re her prince?”
“Of course!” Kyojuro said without a moment’s hesitation. “What kind of a prince would I be otherwise!”
“Kyoooo..” You whined ready to melt from both embarrassment and the sheer sweetness of it all.
“Are you saying you don’t want to marry me?” Kyojuro asked with a hint of mischief in his eyes as he rose and brought Sen up with him.
“No, I mean. I just!” The question had you too flustered for words. “Pool time! Kyojuro out and Sen let’s get dressed!”
The pair laughed at your cherry red face and avoidance of the question.
What a pair the Rengoku siblings were!
And if it’s one thing you knew, it’s that Kyojuro will never miss a chance to lovingly put you on the spot.
Day 6
“Are you going to marry Kyojuro?”
Senjuro’s innocent question had you spitting milk clear across the table.
Thank God Shinjuro didn’t see that.
…Or hear that.
Choking only a little bit both literally and figuratively on your attempt at a “casual” response; you cough out the milk in your lungs and rise to your feet to grab some paper towels. All the while Senjuro’s big and innocent eyes follow you from his (lucky) spot just outside the blast radius as he continues pushing his cereal around his bowl.
“What-” hack “m-makes you” cough cough. “-say that Sen?”
He tilts his head at the question and gives you a thoughtful look. “Weeeeeeell…” He took a bite of his cereal and chewed thoughtfully as he considered how to phrase his words. “Big sis Mitsuri says—”
“She’s your big sis too now?” You asked absentmindedly as you continued trying to find a way to dodge this curious child’s previous question.
“Well that’s the thing.” Senjuro said pointing a spoon at you from across the table as you wiped up your mess. “Big sis Mitsuri says you two are ‘practically sisters’! So she can be my big sis too. That’s what she said when I told her that I wanted you to tuck me in because you always tuck me in when brother’s not home! So then it was okay that she did it because she’s a big sis too.”
“Okaaay.” You said only half following as you moved on to cleaning up yourself. You’d need new clothes.
“Well then I asked if you were big sis because you and big brother were ‘practically siblings’ too.” He continued. You wrinkled your nose at that but let him finish. “But big sis Mitsuri said you’re big sis because you love me like a little brother!” He beamed.
You grinned at him, ready to confirm that when—
“But you don’t love Kyojuro as a brother.” He finished.
Your cheeks flushed a bright red. “I! Well! That’s!” You struggled to find a rationale to give, only for Senjuro’s expression to change completely moments into your floundering. Suddenly he was grinning with eyes full of mischief and he couldn’t have looked more like his brother in that moment if he tried.
“Big sis.” He said sounding rather pleased with himself. “Father says there’s knowledge in books and that it’s important to apply what you learn to the world around you.” He said matter of factly. He stood up, looking like he’d figured out the answers to life suddenly. “And I read something at school that is exactly like this!” You gave him an incredulous look and suddenly Senjuro slammed his hands down on the table with a burst of excitement. “CINDERELLA!” He declared suddenly. “YOU’RE LIKE CINDERELLA! I remember you said your mom wasn’t very nice and that’s why you live with us now! But then I’m not a super mean step-sibling! Father can be kind of scary, but he’s not evil either! So then when big sis Mitsuri said you don’t love Kyojuro like a brother it all made sense! I’m not a bad guy so that means you live with us because Kyojuro is your prince!”
“I don’t think that’s what your Dad meant at all.” You mumbled turning a bright crimson.
“So when are you getting married?! Can I be in the wedding!!? Does father know you’re getting married?!” The questions shot off a mile a minute and you quickly rushed over and scooped Sen into your arms, you pulled him into a hug so tight it muffled his words and you quickly but urgently whispered.
“Sen, how about we go out and get some ice cream!”
And so, that’s how you ended up in your current predicament:
Senjuro happily munching away on some Flavor of the Day goodness, and you sitting across from him with your heart thumping away and your stomach rolling like a million butterflies were doing a nose dive. You wanted to kill Mochi, but at the same time you knew in the back of your mind that it’s not like she had a lot of options, she probably felt weird letting Sen believe that what was between you and Kyojuro was just typical ‘sibling love’…gross. Okay. You can do this.
“So..what else have you been up to since I’ve been gone?” You asked hoping to change the subject a bit. “What mischief did you and Mochi get up to?”
Senjuro swallowed another massive bite and let out a small whimper.
“Brain freeze?”
He nodded making a face.
You sighed and ruffled his hair. “You gotta eat slower kiddo, it’s not going anywhere I promise.”
He gave you one of those lopsided grins that all kids seem to be able to master at that age. “Okay.” He agreed. Then his eyes held that small twinkle of mischief. “Father doesn’t know does he?”
“Sen!”
“I knew it!” He said with gleefully wide eyes. “I’m the first one to know! I’m a detective! Unless. Well. Maybe he doesn’t know because he doesn’t like fairytales. But this proves fairytales can be real so maybe he’ll learn to like them more after you get married!”
“Sen, no one is getting married—”
The child all but dropped his spoon on the floor. “What? Why?!”
The table to your right started giggling and when you glanced over you saw an older couple clearly looking at the two of you and whispering fondly. You felt your face heat yet again.
“Well for starters I’m not even out of school yet.” You said lowering your voice in hopes that he would follow suit.
“So it’s a secret because of school?” He asked in a loud ‘whisper’. “And that’s why we can’t tell father?”
“Yes. I mean no. I mean. Wait. I never said I was marrying anyone after school either!”
“But…” Sen poked his bottom lip out, a touch of worry in his eyes. “You love him don’t you?”
You opened your mouth, closed it, then tried again, but no excuses were coming to mind. “Yes..I do.” You admitted hesitantly.
He jumped to his feet. “YAY!”
“Sen!” You whisper-yelled pulling him back down into his seat.
“Right. A secret.” He repeated hunching over, much to the amusement of the older couple. “So only me, and you, and Kyojuro, and big sis Mitsuri know. Right?”
“Right.”
The grin on his face was infectious. He looked so proud of himself. “I always knew it.” He said.
You arched a brow and poked his ribs getting a giggle out of him. “Oh yeah?”
“Yes!” He said proudly. “Well. Kinda. Because remember you kissed his cheek when we played Knights before and he was the prince!”
“You told me to!”
“Yeah but you didn’t have too.”
Yep. With logic like that he definitely had his brother in him.
— And so it was that Senjuro would become part of the small group of people to know you and Kyojuro’s tiny secret. Shockingly he was pretty good at keeping secrets considering he was still pretty young, he didn’t mention it again the next several weeks and you had started to wonder if maybe he forgot about the whole thing. —
“___.” Shinjuro said as he walked past you helping Senjuro with his homework. “How are your studies coming along?”
You blinked a little surprised by the question. “They’re good actually, I think I’m doing well.”
“You think or you know.” He asked turning to give you his full attention.
“I know.” You replied correcting yourself under his serious gaze.
“Good. There will be no failures in this household.” He continued. Then his features softened just a little bit. “I have put in a request for Kyojuro’s school to pardon him for a few days. Yours as well.”
“Huh?” You stared dumbfounded. “Why?”
“Because there is an event happening between me several companies I intend to do business with. It will be a way to get to know each other better in a semi-casual setting. A three day meeting at a resort, family is invited.” He spoke plainly as if he was giving a report. “I expect you all to be on your best behaviors and to uphold the Rengoku name during your time here. That means that while there will be time to have fun, this is first and foremost a business trip. You and Kyojuro will keep your schedules clear during the times your presence is required. Do you understand?”
“Yes sir.” You replied with a firm nod.
“Good. That includes you Senjuro.” Shinjuro eyed the young boy sternly.
He offered a small shy smile. “Yes father.”
Satisfied with that. Shinjuro excused himself, leaving you and Senjuro to exchange looks.
…
“VACATION!” You both gushed simultaneously.
And while you would never see it, somewhere several rooms away where your voices carried Shinjuro stood facing the mirror as he adjusted his tie; a smile so small and brief you’d miss it if you blinked gracing his face just a moment. “Kids.” He huffed to himself.
