I made another dumb fun cover of one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands @tmbgareok
Don’t Let’s Start (Fake) <- Youtube Link
Life’s been reminding me lately not to Beat Yourself Up… so this one felt right. Enter… Charlie Puth!
We cover Charlie’s music in our shows because we love the way he respects the Minneapolis sound. That music shaped my whole life and the band’s too. I was lucky enough to be mentored by Prince, and it’s been amazing watching Charlie carry that torch forward working with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
Charlie wrote a beautifully positive song called Don’t Beat Yourself Up, all about perseverance and keepin on keepin on. He’s got a contest where artists can cover or remix it, so of course we had to put our own spin on it… GLB style.
Let’s face it… I’m a chick front rocker with AMAZING men in my life and in this band. But every woman here knows our daily lives don’t always strike major chords. 😉 So we flipped it a little darker, rock, and rewrote the lyrics from a female perspective.
Please give Charlie’s original a listen and compare.
I’m also blown away that our bassist in Brazil is part of this live performance video. Technology is wild! Rod recorded his part miles away from me, yet here we are still making music together.
And in typical Goldy lockS Band DIY fashion, I filmed this myself with a selfie stick so it looks like someone’s behind the camera!
You’ve got to make the most out of what you have and what life gives you.
So when you find yourself feeling a little funky… remember Charlie’s message: never beat yourself up.
And ladies… never tear yourself down.
This is your world too.
Love you, Golden Peeps 💛

Let’s look at the cover:

Ultra Artworks commentary:
2-Gō renzoku karā no 2-mai-me. 1-Mai-me no hansei o ikashi-fuku o makkuro ni tsubushite, osore o kokufuku. Koko de mata egara o kaeyou to shite imasuga, idaina senpai hō to jibun no chikara no sa o tsūkan. E ga umakunaritai omoi ga tsuyoku natte ikimasu.
This is the second of two consecutive color issues. Learning from my mistakes in the first issue, I decided to make the clothes completely black, overcoming my fears. I’m trying to change the style again, but I’m keenly aware of the difference in my ability compared to my great predecessors. My desire to improve my drawing skills is growing stronger.
Observation notes:
Shōto gets a rather impressive even if pretty dark solo picture. He is the third to get one after All Might and Midoriya. He seems more adult in this image and well… pretty dark, even more than he is in the chapter. The choice to place his left side in the shadow and have him cover his left eye is interesting, as it seems to collect all the darkness of Shōto there, in the half he inherited by Enji.
