Okay, so I had a thought. Since the turtles only have 3 fingers per hand but still live in a world where many things still are in a base 10 systems (at least the counting system, but defo a bit more that I’m forgetting right now) what if they counted with their hands differntly.

Basically in some cultures you don’t count one finger as one, but you rather count the digits of your fingers like this:

(Don’t ask which culturs, I forgor)

So what if the turtles did something similar, either just so they can count farther and get to 12 with both hands,

or they count basically Tip of the index finger, Bottom of the indes finger, Tip of the pinky, Bottom of the pinky and then the thump as 5 (as far as I’m aware, you don’t usually count the thump when you cound using the digits).

So, if they wanted to show, for example how many points they’d give someone for a stunt (like in 03’s Meet Casey Jones) they’d point at the part of the finger, like:

Sorry, just a two

or Five!

and with both hands it would be a ten.

I think I got my point across, but I made some fotos of my hand to show all numbers under the cut (I was too lazy to draw it, also I want to work on my fic but had to get that out of my system)

Counting Rhyme

Inspired by the last post. Can there be a relatable rhyme with actual quantities instead of just questionable rhymes?

1, 2 I can tie my shoes.
3, 4 if I had 2 more.
5, 6 cans of pop to mix, (pack of sodas to mix)
7, 8 hot dogs, great!
9, 10 fingers, and
11, 12 months to count again

Feh!

Help me out here…

Immigration to Europe: The ‘impossible’ task of counting deaths at sea

Immigration to Europe: The ‘Impossible’ Task of Counting Deaths at Sea
The vast expanse of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean has, for over a decade, become a silent cemetery. It holds the unmarked graves of thousands of migrants and asylum-seekers whose journeys toward Europe ended in tragedy. At the heart of this humanitarian crisis lies a stark and divisive question: How many people…

counting

occupation: 一名医生; 一名消防员
people (more respectful than 个 gè):几位老师; 这位先生
包 (bāo) - measure word for “package”
ye4 page
罐 guàn can
瓶 ping2 bottle (of drink)
杯 bei1 glass cup (of drink)
gùn measure word, used for long thin objects, body parts and plants
把 bǎ a measure word for tools
趟 tàng measure word for journeys
一笔 is usually used as a quantifier associated with money, which means “a sum of."
To count objects that are thin and flat, like paper, we use 张 zhāng.
To count objects that are long and easy to bend, you can use 条。
-> 一条裤子。(Yītiáo kùzi.) Chinese sees pants as something long

When you see or hear 二 and 两 used right next to each other, as in 二两, 两 is actually a measurement for weight. Like many Chinese words that have more than one meaning, 两 means "two,” and it’s also a unit of weight equal to fifty grams that’s used commonly in China. When buying two “liang” of things, we say 二两 instead of 两两. For example: 老板, 来二两香菜 lǎobǎn, lái èrliǎngxiāngcài means, “Owner, I want two liang (or one hundred grams) of cilantro.”

Width: 宽 (kuān)
Weight: 重 (zhòng)
Size: 大 ()
Height: 高 (gāo)

一共, yígòng (“all together”)

口; sometimes it’s a measure word used before a noun and, sometimes it’s used to communicate that things are happening quickly.

Crocheting takes my ability to count and rips it violently out of my hands. I swear I’m really good at maths, but tell me to write a crochet pattern, and suddenly its 1, 2, 3, 5, 3, 4, 3, 3, 6, wait what was I on again? Eh, 10.

Pencil count. 1/22/2026.

Working pencils: 89

Defector pencils: 4 (wont be used again and will not count for any of the other stat total number)

Short pencils: 19

Dirty pencils: 23

Yellow pencils: 42

Orange pencils: 42

Blue pencils: 2

Other pencils: 3

Time spent sharpening these: 2 and a half hours. (Roughly 150 minutes, or almost about 7 episodes worth of Kirby right back at ya.)

What fun. I’m so tired or bored I can’t tell which one. If this is what I do now, I’m scared of what I will do when that snowstorm comes lol.
