Easy Peasy
“Come out, come out wherever you are, boys,” Sister Bernie Clarke called out in an amused sing-song voice, with her colleague, fair haired Sister Helen Smith smiling along. The two nurses had pursued the suspicious looking male intruders into this part of the hospital, which the two women knew was a maze of corridors and locked doors the fugitives would never get out of without help and, judging the way the panicked pair had taken off when Bernie and Helen challenged them, neither nurse thought they would be much threat. Although the women had called Security, they really did not think they could leave the two idiots blundering around the block which housed both the paediatric wards and the NICU, scaring staff, parents and children alike. Bernie was sure they were hiding here, a set of interlocking corridors that led to areas that were not actually in use and thought she would encourage the men to give up.
It really didn’t take very long for the opportunistic thieves to realise they were in way over their heads so they actually emerged, to the nurses’ surprise, from a toilet behind them. The important thing however was that the intruders were clearly ready to surrender. Bernie and Helen didn’t make a big drama out of the capture, in fact they rather made light of it as they tied the two men up. However, Helen’s concluding words, “Easy-peasy,” was a perfect piece of trash-talk that brought a burning sensation of embarrassment to the men’s cheeks as the nurses bound them. It was indeed a humiliating end to their caper…

“Now, don’t get worried, but please stand up place your hands behind your back. I’m only doing this to protect everyone while I call security. If you relax your arms a little, it will be less uncomfortable. That’s right - well done. This will be over soon. Perfect.”

Betha stood at one end of the bench blocking Gerry’s means of escape while Claire sat next to the boy closely, preventing any sudden movement. Betha put a firm hand on Gerry’s shoulder. “We know you’re the thief, Gerry.” she told the unsuspecting lad. “We saw you stealing the necklace.
