Snow on #bikes beside the #Amsterdam #canals made the city look briefly well behaved.

That soft gray #winter light turned the whole set into one quiet frame.
I will miss winter

I tell you the marsh is probably the most unique aspect of the Carolinas during the summer time they can have an awful smell but they look so gorgeous and so beautiful and the canals and streams that cut through there used to be a mode of transportation and ancient days of the Carolinas

Leaning into the other topic of my blog for once with this post.

This evening I discovered what is, for me, an exciting bit of local industrial History. The road I live on has an uncharacteristically pretty stretch of green running along a portion of it’s length in what is, admittedly, a somewhat shitty place to live, I mean it’s that same city as this meme.

I’d always wondered why it was put there, turns out it wasn’t just put there…

It was a bloody freight carrying canal, with narrow boats and everything!

And it turns out there’s a whole lot of canal to explore, with little hints here and there, stretching from Stoke-on-Trent all the way to Newcastle-under-Lyme (Different Newcastle), which is a secondary town that’s grown to become an informal part of the city in the modern day.

So, the goal tomorrow is to do some exploring, see what I can find that’s left of the canal, apparently there’s still a short section left near Newcastle.

I shall report back here with my findings tomorrow, before I head out to an early 30th Birthday Party, it’s actually on the 29th, but a mutual friend of the housemates I stay with had a birthday earlier this week, so we’re combining them into one big do.
