What other short animes do you guys like?? Like short as in maybe a max of 3 or 4 seasons… not one piece…
Ive said BNA is the only anime I like but I havent tried to find any others since and considering im listening to more japanese vocaloid songs id be a lot more open to the language barrier (with subtitles of course)

I’ve seen it.was ok enough, but the writing has all the same problems in regards to oppression metaphor s as promare did.

Here’s a link to my review of BNA: Brand New Animal after I watched it.
I liked that it didn’t pull any bullshit with herbivore v carnivore stuff. And that it had plenty of fights against dangerous herbivore furries. But then it lost points with the nonavian reptiles being uniformly bad guys. It was pretty. But the coloring choices and sequences where it got flashy are not viewer friendly.
For my personal tastes in design a lot of the furries animal forms were ok. Except for the toothed whale mob boss [design not clear enough on what the animal was supposed to be] and the snake culty person [that was not an anthro snake anywhere near the same vein as the rest of the anthro animal people]. ALso very much dislike how the notable lady furries are designed to be cuter/look less like their animal counterpart than the dude furries. That is a blatantly sexist design trope [and I’ve noticed that the studio does just do sexist shit with female characters sometimes either for perv pandering, making less beastly designs, or like in the case with Marcille in their Dungeon Meshi adaptation make them less competent].
This was a very bad oppression metaphor. Very much just like they did with Promare. One of the kinds that makes the oppression justified in-universe by making the oppressed people actually legitimately dangerous. Having them also primarily be in human form and turn furry when they’re being aggressive/violent and making the general use of their furry form in public taboo unless its a festival or while they’re playing sports was a terrible fucking decision. Not just because the furries in the audience came here to see furries, but by making the most notable trait of this minority something that’s taboo or mostly apparent when they’re being violent is just … it says a lot of things that arent good.
Also it has the same twist as Promare where the big bad person spearheading the oppression of said minority is secretly one of them. Which is specifically a whole ass Antisemitic conspiracy theory that they’re drawing on. It also implies that an oppressed group is really the ones responsible for their own oppression and that the other people oppressing them arent as much at fault as they are. It’s a yikes thing to do writing-wise, let alone to do it twice.
There’s also something to be said about how the protag who’s from the majority group gets the abilities/apperence of the minority group and is inherently better than the minority at what they do [in this case having superpowers in comparison] and is the one to solve their problems and save them… gives shades of a ‘Mighty Whitey’ story even if the protag isnt white.

Overall it’s kinda meh/midling as a show. If I turn my brain off its fairly decent till that last third or so. It’s very much not something I’d pay for even if I did watch it out of curiosity and managed to finish it.
