À la rentrée littéraire 2024, les éditions Argyll, toute jeune maison d’édition rennaise, proposait une nouvelle collection, RéciFs. Fabrique de récits courts à la croisée des genres, écrits par des autrices du monde entier, RéciFs a une charte graphique conçue par Anouck Faure et a pour objectif de publier autour de 6-7 ouvrages par an.

Thomas Graham by FotoFling Scotland SportFolio. Thomas Graham carried the stone to be used for the Stone Put Competition at Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games.
The stone put is one of the main Scottish heavy athletic events at modern-day Highland games gatherings. Similar to the shot put, the stone put more frequently uses an ordinary stone or rock instead of a steel ball.
Robert Burns was keen on stone putting and apparently left his favourite putting stone at Ellisland Farm near Dumfries. If he saw anyone using it whilst he lived there he would call “Bide a wee” and join in the sport, always proving that he was the strongest man there.

ALTThis is my best guess at what’s going on here:
I think this beauty is the urchin earthfan - Thelephora penicillata. It is usually found on the forest floor amongst the mosses and leaf litter, fruiting into little jagged cushions. But this one seems to have decided to gain a little extra height by clambering up and enveloping some tormentil plants!
It looks like the process is killing the vegetation. This is considered an ectomycorhizal fungus and I think it is not attacking the tormentil, just not giving it enough space. I did see something similar last year where a large fern had gained a very frilly earthfan ruff round the base of its fronds and that was showing no ill effects from its hangers-on.
