every poem,

a perfect cherry blossom

to a dying samurai.

This was inspired by a scene in The Last Samurai,  the one with that guy from Mission Impossible (Tom Cruise). The movie itself is unremarkable because I can’t remember what the hell it was about or why it was. I just remember, sort of remember, the Japanese dude from Inception (Ken Watanabe), while dying, looking at the cherry blossoms and saying they were all perfect, because he was searching for that one perfect cherry blossom all his life, before realizing, as he was dying, that they were all perfect. Or maybe I also misremembered that scene. Anyhoo, boom, that’s how this poem was born. I was also going to make it a haiku, but I was like, screw haiku. It would just mess it up. Then I was like what about a Tanka and I was like, screw that, too many words. It’s perfect as it is, like a cherry blossom. But then I was like:

samurai’s death bed.

blanket of cherry blossoms,

each bloom a poem.

So damn, that actually might work. So I was like, okay. Now what. Then I was like, okay, screw it. I’ll annotate the other one and maybe post it separately later. Voila.
