This story may take me some time to write because holy fuck it’s already tearing my heart to pieces.
Beginning excerpt:
All she knows is the thump-thump of her racing heart pounding in her ears as her paws thud the ground repeatedly. No destination in mind, she just needs to get away. Away from it all.
The news of one more loss, one that hurt. She’s always losing people, and she’s tired of it. It’s just too much. She needs to get away.
Rain.
Landing in your clothes as you leave me behind.
Snow.
Catching on your eyelashes as you tell me goodbye.
The water rushes to the gutter in a downhill flood
My shoes are wet
And I’m not sure why
The water by my eyes is so warm
The ice spreads infinitely forward
I slip.
And there is nobody left to catch me
You will never come back.

Two Years Ago
“Tch. All it’s going to take is one bad day. That’s it. One bad day and you will come back to me.”
Katsuki Bakugo, the arrogant, controlling, but loving, ex-boyfriend you’d fought so hard to escape, simply smirked, finally “accepting” your break up. It’d only taken six months, but he’d finally left you alone.
Present Time
Caught Cheating on Y/N the ‘Sweetheart Hero’. The media had jumped all over your boyfriend’s infidelity and now it was all you heard. Your world was shaking, or was that you? You lay your head down on the desk, tears sliding down your cheeks.
It wasn’t until you heard your own snort/cough on your own saliva that you came back to reality. You grabbed your jacket, your hero costume already discarded on the couch for your street clothes. Pulling your hood down low you exited out the back of the building to avoid everyone including employees. You sent a single text to your assistant letting her know you were unavailable until further notice, silencing your phone right after.
Your boots crunched through the snow with every step you took, the continuing storm keeping anyone from stopping even if they recognized you. Pulling your scarf tighter you made it to your car and drove to the one place you never thought you’d ever go again.
You sat in your car, gripping the steering wheel ten minutes after you’d parked. Finally, you forced yourself out of your car and up the walkway to the front door. Everything had been shoveled and cleared recently, though the raging storm was attempting to cover it all back up. Using the heel end of your fist you banged five times, shoving your cold hands back into your pockets.
“Yeah, yeah, keep your fuckin’ pants on!” Bakugo’s voice came from inside.
When the door pulled open, you couldn’t hold yourself together any longer. Hot tears burst down your face, your anger boiling deep inside, the only thing that was keeping you upright. Bakugo was intrigued crossing his arms over his chest and leaning a hip against the door frame.
“Why? Why did you do it? Why couldn’t you let me be happy?” you shouted.
Bakugo didn’t seem the least bit surprised or bothered by your loud accusation.
“Tch. He wasn’t right for you. Hell, didn’t take much for him to fuck another…”
SMACK!
The sound of your hand connecting with his face seemed to echo through the entire area. You were shaking even harder, wondering if you’d gotten yourself into deeper trouble.
Instead of getting angry, Bakugo’s expression softened and he stood straight, one of his hands reaching for yours. The warmth of him made the tears fall faster, your vision completely blurred.
“You fuckin’ asshole…I…I hate you so much.”
“Then why did you come here?”
“I…I needed to know if you…Why?” you began crying even harder.
Bakugo pulled you flush against him, his warmth engulfing you the way it always had.
“Because. I’m the only one that can love you the way you deserve. I’m the only one. You know that now, right? Sweets, look at me…You know I am the only one for you.”
You deflated completely, your will to fight gone. Bakugo was never going to let you go and he had been loving even if it was mixed with a bit of possessiveness. Meeting his gaze, you nodded, unable to speak.
Bakugo smirked, lifting you up into his arms carrying you inside, slamming the door shut with his foot. He set you down gently on the couch, removing your snow covered shoes, then your heavy jacket.
“I’m so exhausted.”
“I know baby. I told you all it takes is one bad day. Let me make you tea.”
Hey!! 👋🏻 Yes I’ve been good, just busy with normal life stuff….perpetually trying to find a rhythm and time it takes to fully step back into my creative writing headspace.
To answer your question - There’s a flashback at the end of the chapter “Mine (Costia’s version)” that shows their first face-to-face interaction post-breakup, which was about 6mo after the infamous “premier” incident.
Lexa was able to get from Anya the event Clarke would be at, so she could try to talk to her. (Spoiler, it doesn’t go well) with Clarke leaving the event abruptly once she notices Lexa there, spewing some pretty harsh words in Lexa’s direction as she waits for her ride.
Oooohhhhhhh well if THATS not a super fun idea that may or may not have just given me some rejuvenated inspo 🤭🤭🤭
I’d imagine Lexa would agree to do that sort of podcast as part of a promo run…. But that would have to be for a certain kind of movie she’s starring in, so perhaps she’d finally making some crossover into like a true Rom com role getting to step out of the apocalyptic/action/thriller badass roles she has become famous for.
Podcaster prods how it feels having to channel a much softer side (perhaps she even has to play opposite a male love interest?) 🤭 and the host(s) have fun getting into the weeds about her REAL mess of a love life (seemingly) and even joking offer her the chance to speak on the years’ worth of speculation and rumors…. Perhaps they ask about her and Costia…. Bc they will DEF ask about her past with Clarke, and what their affiliation with each other is now…
depending on where that might fall in the story from where we’ve left off and where I plan to take it would affect how Lexa responds. (And to give examples or context would by default give spoilers for where the story is still yet to head soooooo 🙈)
I love love LOVE you for posing that question bc this idea actually makes perfect sense for this story!!🙌🏼 And I’d love to credit that prompt accordingly when the time comes (if you wanted….)🫣

It’s the end of an era, one that I’m glad to outgrow, and still, I can’t help but feel sad. I can’t help but grieve for the girl who moved into this cheap-ass apartment with a friend and roomie who she knew would quite happily take her in. She came home with her tail between her legs because the Dream was not as dreamy as she’d thought. She was lonely and she likes to be a big fish in a small pond (sue me) and she missed her friends and the pandemic was hard and Vancouver is cold in a different way and she wasn’t in school and her job pushed her to leave and she was lonely. So she came home to someone familiar, to a familiar neighbourhood, and paid dirt-cheap rent for 4.33 years.
I’m grieving for her because it probably wasn’t exactly what she wanted, but she needed comfort and that is exactly what she got. I’m grieving because this is the last place my first cat curled up to sleep. I’m grieving because I missed little moments, distracted by whatever it was. I’m grieving because I don’t get to be small anymore - I am giving myself the space to grow and, therefore, have the responsibility to do so. I’m sad my friend didn’t want to live with me anymore, even though I want to (and am excited to) live on my own, too.
I’m sad because change is hard, and I’m grieving all kinds of losses, and I’ll be facing my sadness head on because I will have the space for it.
This is a blessing - I am so lucky - and I’m grateful, and I’m tired, and I’m sad. It’s the end of an era, the beginning of a new one, but I can’t see the dawn just yet. For tonight, I’ll revel in the darkness (just a little), let myself sulk, (only a little), and accept the pain of transformation.

Rubbing your eyes deep-red before the mirror,
You weep the blood you wore down into tears,
Staring yourself into oblivion,
You let yourself melt to obsidian.
You let your psyche fall into the black,
Into the void abyss to not come back,
Suffocating in the ink of despair,
You’re tortured by your every want and care.
You’re hurt by every line you think misplaced,
You err at every curve around your waist,
You claw your flesh in hopes it might correct,
Your form, a source of only discontent.
You unfurl from your coil before the mirror,
This is the last you’ll let yourself fall here, You lie to yourself.
“All her life she could only process that kind of love as an obligation, a transaction, something fraught with danger. She had only been taught the cold pronouncement that one day she would have to lay back and let her husband have his way, as a proper wife should. It made sense to her to be so discerning; it was why she knew deep down that she had to choose for herself who to love, that she had to fight against anyone Kizomi chose. If she wanted to be respected in… that transaction, she had to marry a man who would be gentle and kind to her.”
- The Element of Change Chapter 23: Unseen and Unspoken
And that is why Kiyoi finally fell for Zuko in the Earth Kingdom. Because when things were the most dire for them and they had nothing, he never took out his frustrations on her. When she was weak and was vulnerable, Zuko cared for her and never took advantage of her. He was gentle, protective and so respectful. And for once they were equal socially. No wonder Kiyoi fell for him and fell HARD. So hard that:
"Zuko’s eyes widened, then narrowed. ‘I think as Fire Lord, I can marry whoever I want,’ he declared, his voice firm, his gaze unwavering. 'And I will do everything I can to make sure my best friend isn’t carted off like a hippocow just because she’s of good stock! I refuse to believe that what we want doesn’t matter, that your happiness doesn’t matter!’
'I won’t find happiness anyway,’ she interrupted, her voice filled with a quiet despair. 'I know already there’s no one I would want to marry and no one who would want to marry me. What was the point of waiting for something that won’t happen when I can finally be useful now?’
‘Useful?’ Zuko’s face crumpled. 'Kiyoi, what are you talking about? Don’t speak like that. Those are her words, not yours. How could you say that? You are so smart, and thoughtful, beaut-’
She couldn’t let him continue. Her brain threw out words to halt him, but they were poorly chosen, too transparent; ’Because there’s only one man who has my heart, and I cannot have him!’ she confessed. She dug her grave and then laid down in it, adding; ’I don’t think I could ever love another.’
Zuko’s eyes searched hers with an intensity that made her heart skip a beat. 'You love—who?’ Any anxiety concerning her confession dissipated, substituted by fury.
By the Spirits, he is thick. 'I will not give voice to my delusions. If you have known me this long and you don’t know, you will never figure it out.’”

about religious trauma and dead heros

You could start a cult.
You could have a complex.
You could have been the
New Abraham before I
Thought that it would
Come to this.
You could break the
Mountain he climbed
To devise the laws:
Because what if
Graven Idolatry is
Exactly what you want,
Even if it scared the Gods?
You could have called
Yourself a Zion with the
Undying love you earned,
Gilding the unshakable walls
With precious gold to protect
A freedom you had to
Fight for—
A peace you had
To earn.
Instead you cohort with
Basement plebeians,
Carrying the quiet banner
Of insecurity that you
Can’t even fit.
Instead you drag mediocrity
Up the mountain on your back
As if it deserves you.
I believed in your
Singular truth—
Your nation of one.
I never thought
I’d see it submit
To anything but
The happy heat
Of the Sun.
