Okay, this one I’m actually going to hide away under a cut, as it’s about Aerith and it gets a bit spoilery. I’m not talking about one of the most well-known spoilers in gaming history, but specifically about one part of the Rebirth ending right after that. So that would still be spoilery if you haven’t played Rebirth.
I’m just going to say that it was not what I expected (even being partially spoiled), but I really liked it, and it was no less touching and impactful as the original one.

This! I’m talking about this new part! This was so beautiful! And so sad! This is what felt to me like the actual new death scene, and daaaamn I loved it. I don’t like the song that plays here, but I still cried here.
After we seemingly defeated the personification of Fate at the end of the Remake I was hoping we’d go a different way. I was hoping that maybe Aerith would survive this time, maybe this time we can save her?
But no, I guess there’s no way around it. FF7 is about many things, but it’s still about Life, and therefore about Death and Grief and everything that goes with it.
Aerith is still dead. Well, as dead as she was in the OG when she smiled from the lifestream as the Holy magic burst out, and just as dead as she was in Advent Children when she left a message on Cloud’s drowning phone and rained down the healing rain on the Planet.
She’s still present in the lifestream, so she can be in that flower field and see everyone off, but they cannot see her (except for Cloud. Which only helps fuel his total denial of her death. She can’t be dead if he can see her, right? right?!). Nanaki can feel her a little bit, but he’s not in denial, he knows she’s dead, so he probably thinks he just imagined her touch.
In the OG we saw everyone’s reaction to Aerith’s death.
In Rebirth we also saw everyone’s reaction to her death. We saw everyone’s grief and we saw Cloud’s denial (and grief too).
And then we got to see Aerith’s reaction to her death. We saw her standing alone in that flower field, getting smaller and smaller as Tiny Bronko was flying off, carrying away her friends to save the world and have adventures without her. And she keeps looking at it and she just says “Goodbye”. She’s in the Lifestream and she can watch over them, but she can’t go on with them, because she’s dead and can’t walk with them anymore T_T
Damn, now I’m crying again.
Sorry for posting a sad thing on your birthday month, Aerith ^_^;

Ammar Zoni Surati Ditjenpas, Ajukan Keberatan Dipindahkan ke Nusakambangan
(part 1 about Reno is here )
So, we all know that Reno has a distinct speech pattern, but Aerith though? Doesn’t she just speak normal conversational language? She’s quirky and bubbly, but there isn’t really anything special grammatically, is there? Weeeell, there is in Japanese. And it is very very hard to translate, especially into English.
So, first of all, some Japanese grammar introduction! Japanese language uses particles (wa, o, e, ni, to, no, da and others) to modify a word or a sentence. For example, adding them at the end of the sentence changes the vibe (the mood, politeness, emphasis, turns sentence into questions, etc) and adding particles after nouns changes the case and/or acts similar to a preposition in other languages. There are many more uses of particles, but they don’t feature in Aerith’s speech quirks, so I’ll stop here :)
When I was talking about Reno’s speech pattern, we were dealing with the sentence-ending particles. With Aerith we’re going to talk about prepositions and noun cases.
Japanese language uses particles as postpositions (it’s like a preposition, but you put it after the noun instead of before it) to denote the case of the noun.
The subject would be marked with ‘wa’ or ‘ga’, direct object is usually ‘o’, possessive is ‘no’, ‘de’ could be instrumental like ‘with something’ or ‘using something’ or it could mean a location, and so on, there’s a lot more particles with different meanings and uses. Sometimes in a conversational language the ones that are most obvious from context like the one for the direct object or the one for the subject, can be dropped (Japanese language loves to drop the subject altogether, so it’s not too surprising hehe). So what Aerith does, is she drops those two pretty much all the time.
Again, it’s not super weird to drop them occasionally. But it is very much unusual to almost never use ‘wa’ like Aerith does. Her speech is still perfectly clear, there’s always enough context, but she sounds slightly weird. Maybe a bit childish. Maybe a bit foreign. The particles she drops are the ones for subject (‘wa’) and direct object (‘o’), so she pretty much only uses particles in Japanese when a preposition would be there in English, and drops the particle when English would not use a preposition.
And, well, that makes it SUPER hard to translate into other languages, as many languages that have cases also don’t have any prepositions for subject and direct object, and dropping prepositions for other cases might make her sound grammatically incorrect and too foreign. So I totally understand why localisations don’t even try to convey this grammatical quirk and focus just on the general vibe of bubblyness and quirkyness (and localisation is doing this part really well!).
If we reaaaaally have to try and convey her speech quirk in English, I think we could do something with separating the objects and adding pauses, like “The dress, you should wear it!” or “The beach! Wanna go?”. While not exactly the same, I thiiiink this would be the closest to the vibe of dropping particles that Aerith does if we really want to convey that.

🍪 - What are their favorite scents?
Gonna do Aeris, Marcie, and Viper bc I’ve been rotating this trio in my mind again recently lol
Viper: Pine needles. Pine needles, wet forest undergrowth, dry grass and petrichor- pretty much anything that reminds him of the wilds and the comfort of the forests he used to roam in. It’s a scent that’s become bittersweet to him now that he’s been city-bound for so long, but it still soothes something in his soul when he smells it. He greatly enjoys the smell of fresh coco coir on cage cleaning days for this very reason (Viper became one of the first herpetologists/venom lab runners post-Collapse as a means of grounding himself when his ghost, Ophilia, died).
Marcie- Marcie loves warmer smells like coffee, cinnamon, bourbon, baking cookies, firewood, the smell of old books, and cedar. She also really likes the smell of peppermint, though you won’t find her using it as an air freshener anytime soon- its strictly a Dawning treat to her, and maybe the occasional breath freshener after a night out at a nice resteraunt (I refuse to believe that those lil resteraunt breathmints died in the Collapse). She’s also really big on mechanical smells like hot metal and engine oil, but that’s more because she likes to futz around with machinery for fun rather than, say, something she’d seek out as an air freshener.
Aeris- Aeris is a bit of a weird one in that he doesn’t really have much of a particular favorite smell insomuch as he likes good smells that are strong, and what qualifies as a ‘good smell’ to him isn’t necessarily what is comforting. Scents that qualify as 'good’ to him are the smell of lemon (as in, the really strong synthetic lemon smell cleaners use, not natural lemon), artificial tropical smells, hand sanitizer, any form of mint (except spearmint- Ghost used to spritz the inside of his helmet and jumpship with a mint air freshener before battles to block out the battle smell, so he developed a bad association with it), gunpowder, pine needles, and the ocean.
Scents that comfort him, on the other hand, tend to be more subtle. Vanilla, the slight mustiness of an old, untouched building. The ash made specifically by Solar light. Fresh blood from a hunt, clear of the sharp stink of chemical warfare. The smell of new armour and weapons. The smell of Marcie’s shampoo. More recently, the strongest thing to calm him is faint, barely-there musk of a calm Eliksni, more specifically the scents of Misraaks and Eido. (Eliksni have a sort of sweet, dusty, almost salty smell to them, sort of like bird dust mixed with sage and sea salt, but muskier…yeah idk how to describe it really just trust me on this one bro). Humans can’t detect Eliksni pheromones at all, and they don’t smell as strong to us as other humans do, but just like anything else their fear-scent is distinct from their normal smell, and Aeris is sensitive enough to both recognize the difference between the two and to know what Misraaks and Eido typically smell like after a few years of him and Marcie sleeping over in between missions
Aeris is a private person for many reasons but I think what he would grapple with the most socially (if it got out) would be the fact that he prefers Eliksni partners above human ones like 90% of the time. The alien fetishizer accusations would go absolutely wild, and if he tried to set the record straight and explain that the reason why he preferred Eliksni specifically was because he feels uncomfortable/like an outsider among all types of humans…oh boy. Shit would NOT look pretty for him. Imagine how badly the fallout would be if the savior of humanity admitted to the fact that the reason he prefers taking dick from the species that was humanity’s #1 enemy for the longest time was bc he himself barely feels human

My other Transformers OC’s are STARVING. My stupid medevac jet has had the most design changes, the most lore written, and the most art so far, and she isn’t even my first and beloved TF OC smh..
