Slinky - Wikipedia

Been a while since I’ve posted a Wikipedia article here as a point of interest, but I just watched the episode of GameCenter CX featuring the bizarre TurboGrafx-16 game Somer Assault, in which the playable character is a Slinky, so I opened up the Wikipedia article for Slinkys. It starts off perfectly normal enough, until it gets to the “Subsequent developments” section and drops this doozy:

Although the Slinky had early success, sales peaked in the late 1950s, then began to decline. Richard’s interest in Slinky and the company waned, and he became deeply involved in a religious sect, reportedly giving it large amounts of company funds. In 1960, he told Betty that he was going to become an evangelical missionary in Bolivia with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Rather than going with him or selling the company, Betty decided to remain, divorce Richard, and take over the company. Richard relocated to Bolivia leaving Betty and their three children behind.

Look, we’ve all been there, right

John Kent (police officer)

John Kent (1805 – 20 July 1886) was a British police constable at Maryport, then with the Carlisle City Police, and is reported to be the first black police officer in Britain. He served seven years in the office of constable at Carlisle before being dismissed from his role in 1844. He then became a court bailiff, then a Parish Constable at Longtown. Until 2006, when a former officer of Cumbria Constabulary discovered Kent’s employment records, it was thought that Britain’s first black police officer was Norwell Roberts, who was an officer with the Metropolitan Police starting in 1966 (however Astley Lloyd Blair joined Gloucestershire Constabulary as a Special Constable in 1964). The discovery has been heralded by the UK National Black Police Association as having “huge significance” as well as being “totally unexpected”.

According to illustrator and New Yorker cartoonist Liana Finck, sticking to a strict daily routine (one that includes jogging past a dog park) allows her to cultivate her wonderfully rich inner life. And it seems to work—the young artist has just published her third book, Excuse Me: Cartoons, Complaints, and Notes to Self, while keeping up with her wildly popular Instagram account (which has almost 400k followers).

In this video, Liana takes the Cut through a day in her life, and talks us through her inspirations, how she cultivated her famous “anti-style,” and her favorite drawing pen.
