im gonna share my thoughts under the readmore i dont wanna spoil anyone.

got to see the first two episodes!

the op is INCREDIBLE and the ed is also really solid. love the imagery in both.

every voice actor was incredible (though very funny for me as an iruma fan immediately going ‘that’s mitsuki saiga doing the exact voice done for opera. hi’

there’s a real sense of quiet that’s hard to describe. Like, there’s long stretches with no backing music, just voices and sfx. and it’s really really nice, it gives impact to the music and like. it suits well.

the sakuga is outstanding, the whole of qifrey taking coco away from her house as it gets engulfed in the magic is fantastic.

there’s a good mix of like, the incredible animation and just. solid animation, which feels good bcs it reassures me we’re not blowing our budget or anything.

they continuously have the wonderful visual metaphors and i’m a huge fan of this like, pop up book thing they do. it’s fantastic huge huge huge fan.

genuinely i cannot do it justice it’s just. it feels really good to watch. the steady pace, the atmposhere. it’s just perfect.

WHA PREMIERE SPOILERS BELOW

• IT WAS SO GOOD OH WOW OH WOWOWOWO. they dropped two eps plus the op and ed
• The animation was so so so so so good. Like I was worried some scenes would be good and the other would be patchy but nope it was all so beautiful and carefully done, you can really seethe love they put in and how much they tried to emulate shirahama’s style
• THE MUSIC. HOLY SHIT THE MUSIC. absolutely amazing showstopping all the awards now. It captured the vibes so well and the way the music slowly turns sinister in the first ep the more excited coco gets about trying spells from the forbidden spell book…woah.
• particular shoutout the exact scene quifrey quickly scoops coco and flies out of the house, we saw a bit of it in the trailer but the flow and heavy drop in the music was SO WELL DONE i was gagged. The weight of that scene is haunting
• The tiny scene Coco tries to fight her way out of Quifrey;s gasp to save her mom was so fun to watch (bar the situation) it was so… active? it just flowed really well and the struggle felt like a struggle. Also major props to Coco’s VA
• She captures the fear, wonder and excitement of Coco so well!!! Like that IS Coco, It was so good and the part where Coco screams for her mom was so visceral I teared up a little…amazing amazing amaaazinggg
• They portray Quifrey so well!! The mysterious man with seemingly good intentions vibe is captured so well. Also they have managed to include so much of Shirahama’s chapter art into it, they really put effort into the picture book vibe
• every ep has the ending scene lifted off and become a page of a picture book like a page in Coco’s story. It was really good and well done. the atelier and naakiwan downs is animated so well, that is my comfort atelier!!!!
• THE GIRLS. OH MAN. again the VAs are sooooo apt,,,, Tetia and Richeh being generally nice while Agott keeps showing up like an evil omen was so well done, Agott’s VA sounds sooo mean its so goood!! They animated the eyes of all the characters so well, the food too
• THE OP. i was not expecting to see it but WOW. ITS SO GOOD, it has a picture frame movement type thing? im not describing it well but the story book vibe prevails and its so good. also there was a scene of tartah, agott and coco seemingly hanging out and the it had me cackle the animators knew what they were doing with agott right between them ahdkjhk
• second test arc probably confirmed,or atleast the season will end with the test beginning, eunie was there and they showed his transformation(kinda) in the ed. tartah was there too, the scene where he figures out the meds using the spell was shown and was so pretty
• the ed was so good tooo. its a much more sad and sober song, legit coco crashdown but it ends in such a pretty hopecore way, one particular scene i will make my phone wallpaper posthaste.
• i want to listen and watch the op and ed so bad april 6th cant get here any sooner,,, if bug films can keep this up we’re looking at the anime of century no i am not biased
• oo they added some extra sweet scenes between coco and her mom which her makes her mom’s stonehenge era much more painful.
• Coco is going to change the lives of sooooo many people!!

Loved how they made the scene with Coco’s mom turning to stone much more heartbreaking. Qifrey was struggling holding her back. Like she got dropped and then saved and she was still struggling to get to her mother oh….

And the way the incorporated the story book elements is so good

Saw an advanced screening of Witch Hat Atelier anime episodes 1 and 2

the animation is stunning!! Lots of scenes reference panels of the manga and I really enjoyed the sound design and music too. This is going to be a marvelous series adaptation!

I just finished reading volume 9 (chapter 51) of Witch Hat Atelier. It’s heart breaking to see Coco seemingly loose the spark she had for magic as she becomes award of the weight the responsibility of using it bears. The characters in this manga are all so well done and thought out. Once I’m caught up, I’ll be interested in going back and re-reading the story to catch clues I’m sure I’ve missed.
