My photo of a Mouse Guard™ Roleplaying Game book, by Luke Crane & David Petersen.

An open mouthed viper is attacked by a caped, sword-wielding mouse warrior who is barely a mouthful for the snake.

The front of this books dust jacket is illustrated with wide top & bottom borders of brown with tan filigree.ALT

A recent addition to our TTRPG selection is this like-new 2017 Mouse Guard roleplaying game, 2nd edition rulebook. Also, if the ‘80s-vintage Marvel Super-Heroes RPG is your jam, I’ve got a handful of game supplements, some never-opened!

Not a gamer? Stop and explore. There’s much more in-store!

Is this a meme reply in a 76 year old comic book? Is it proof that time travel exists?

No. Of course not!

I couldn’t resist poking some fun when I found this last night. Panel excerpt from “Jeanie” № 19 (May 1948).

A photo of a book; the "Storybook Treasury of Dick and Jane and Friends."

The square format book is a warm yellow color. 7 water-color illustrated ovals decorate the cover. The large center oval contains the title characters, 2 curious young children. The other 6 ovals border the first semi-circularly, 3 to a side; clockwise from top left, they are "Father," "Mother," "Puff" (their cat), "Tim" (a teddy-bear), "Sally" (their baby sister), and "Spot" (their dog).ALT

Sharing this because anything featuring “Dick and Jane” is uncommon (even reprinted collections) & folks request them regularly. Hurry in, before it’s gone!

A composite image of five photos, being four book covers and a close-up of one reflectively shiny, bright-red ladybug.
The books are as follows:

On the left, making up half the entire collage, is the #1 New York Times Bestseller, Isabel Wilkerson's "Caste–The Origins of Our Discontents." Winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Authir of "The Warmth of Other Suns." Oprah's Book Club, 2020. The white cover is a late-'50s to early-'60s sepia-tone image of a large crowd, surprisingly well-balanced in it's demographics.

Top center is "Conscious Seeing–Transforming Your Life Through Your Eyes," by Roberto Caplan, O.D. A close-up of single human eye dominates title on this cover.

Top right is "The Hypnotic Brain–Hypnotherapy and Social Communication" by Peter Brown, M.D. this simple cover design has a broad border, all around. A salmon-colored box in the center holds the title. An ambiguous set of three very irregular, thin, wavy blue lines, pocked with scattered blue squares crosses the lower cover.

Bottom center is Judy Batkowiak's "Secrets of the NLP Masters–50 Techniques to Be Exceptional."

Bottom right is that handsome ladybug mentioned above.ALT

A smattering of recently arrived non-fiction titles. I don’t feature these kinds of books often, but now you know such things are here. You might even see a ladybug on your way to our door. This is the first one I’ve seen this year.

A photo of the book "Magickal Sex–A Witches' Guide to Beds, Knobs and Broomsticks" [sic], by Fiona Horne.
The hardback book is square, black with a thin purple border, white text and highlighted clusters of stylized stars. The title and stars are printed in silver and slightly reflective. In the top right corner is a white 'guiding star' symbol. similar to the directional star on a map. Top center is a portrait of a woman with long, straight, blonde hair. She wears a beaded necklace with alternating feathers of long, slender black and short orange types. Her bare shoulders reveal a narrow tattoo line atop each shoulder, pointed at the outer ends.ALT

Yesterday’s post, in case you missed it, was non-existent. I didn’t have time.

Today is a New Moon, the start of a new Lunar month. Mystically-speaking, this represents new beginnings, or new steps for works-in-progress.

Animal/vegetable/mineral;

Spiritual/physical/mental;

Emotional/mechanical/theoretical.

Whatever your pursuits, there’s something about them on our shelves!

3. The Voice of the Master - Kahlil Gibran.
4. Thoughts and Meditations - Kahlil Gibran.
5. Secrets of the Heart - Kahlil Gibran.

Artist, author, & poet Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophet” has been popular for a century, which is why it isn’t in this photo—I don’t have one to show now because they always go quickly. Many consider him a philosopher, but he did not. This collection looks rough, but these books of his other writings are solid, for those who’d like to go beyond his most famous work.

A composite image showing the front cover and two open pages from a children's pop-up book.

On the left:
POP-UP FACTS [book of the] HUMAN BODY.
BRING THE BODY TO LIFE!
The book is nearly square. The cover illustration is a full frame view of a skull in front of the musculature of a male torso.

On the right:
Two wide images demonstrating interior pages. There is too much text on these pages to reproduce here.
     Top right:
"Body Basics" has a cross-section of skin showing blood vessels, fatty tissue, a hair follicle, and other details. Next is a layered pop-up showing the interior of a human body: muscles, circulatory system, vital organs, and skeleton. Finally, there's a hand with a slider to demonstrate the growth of a fingernail.
     Bottom right:
"Down the Hatch" explains eating, taste and smell. First up is a side view cross-section of a head, showing nasal passage, mouth, tongue, epiglottis, throat, and stomach. The main pop-up on this page is a 3-D representation of the digestive system. This is followed by cut-away illustrations of stomach layers and the villi inside the intestines.ALT

Who doesn’t love a good pop-up book; and–1 month from #ALIENDay, why has Ridley Scott’s movie never had one?

The used book market doesn’t often see pop-ups in working condition. This one is 100% functional with a small, unintended fold of the frontal lobe. In other words, it has minor brain damage.

A photo of a book.

"Presidential Cars & Transportation.

From horse and carriage to Air Force One, the story of how the presidents of the United States travel.

By William D. Sluru, Jr. & Andrea Stewart."

The book cover image is a photo of President Dwight D. Eisenhower standing and waving on parade from the back of a Cadillac Eldorado with small U.S. and Presidential flags on poles mounted to the front bumper. The First Lady is in the front passenger seat. A large man is seated between she and the driver. Another man walks alongside the car near the back.ALT

It’s President’s Day in the U.S. Some people have the day off work & don’t need to travel. Have you ever wondered how the Presidents have gotten around? Maybe “Presidential Cars & Transportation” can help.

But, when in Dayton, don’t miss going inside vintage Presidential Planes at the Nat'l Museum of the United States Air Force!

A 3 image collage, as follows;

At top is an excerpt from the Valentine's Day 2024 illustration introducing the actors who will play the Fantastic Four in a live action film planned for release in July 2025. The crop is a close-up of The Thing reading a magazine. The magazine cover isn't clear but Sierra to be modeled after the December 13, 1963 issue of Life magazine, featuring U.S. President Lyndon Johnson standing at his desk in the White House following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Bottom Left is a photo of the cover of the October 4th issue of Life, featuring a model of a stand of DNA.

Bottom Right is a photo of the aforementioned President Johnson Life magazine, featuring LBJ standing between the U.S. and Presidential flags stood by his desk in the White House.ALT

New Fantastic Four promo steeped in MCM trappings suggest a ‘60s setting for the July '25 film. The LIFE mag in Ben Grimm’s hands seems to be 12/13/63, but at a Valentine’s Day party, so, at least 2 months old when he’s reading it.

A better cover choice for the FF might have been the 10/4/63 DNA cover.

Found both in my recent work pile.
