What to Pack in a 3-Day Trekking Meal Kit: Curry Ready-to-Eat Meals for No-Cooking Hikes

Before hitting the trail, long treks begin at home when you’re packing your backpack and deciding what’s really required. While the mountain air certainly fills you up with adventurous spirit, it also demands smart packing. So, instead of carrying heavy cookware, most hikers today rely on delicious heat-and-eat meals. Imagine arriving at a scenic ridge on the course of your hike, pulling out a savoury curry ready-to-eat pouch from your backpack, and enjoying a hearty meal without any cooking mess. Modern trekkers are increasingly opting for compact RTE instant meals, making eating outdoors effortless. That’s exactly where ShimlaRed’s RTE food solutions come into play.

Our thoughtfully crafted ready-to-eat Indian meals blend authentic flavours with practical trekking convenience. Available in easy to carry pouches and require very little preparation time (just heating before consumption), our RTE meals are perfect for high-altitude hunger after extended hikes.

Top Ready-to-Eat Indian Curries to Pack for a Trek

Trekking for multiple days requires variety when choosing ready-to-eat meals. Long hikes burn your energy faster than usual days. So, you need meal solutions that are both satiating and easy to transport. Fortunately, ShimlaRed’s ready-to-eat curries are available in several options that are practical for outdoor adventures. We offer retort Indian meals that deliver the comfort of a traditional Indian curry, even at the highest altitudes.

  • Classic Lentil and Protein-Rich Curries

For lentil lovers, we offer other flavour and nutrition-packed options, like ready-to-eat dal tadka and dal makhani ready-to-eat. Additionally, our protein-rich chana masala (ready-to-eat) provides the right amount of energy you need during challenging outdoor hikes. These retort meals bring genuine flavour in their compact and travel-friendly packs.

  • Flavorful Paneer-Based Curries for the Trail

As an example, if someone likes Indian style curry filled with peas and soft paneer, they can opt for our mutter paneer ready-to-eat meal kit.  Another great paneer-based curry to try is paneer butter masala, ready-to-eat. Both are protein-filled meal options for enjoying something indulgent after a long hike. Many trekkers also prefer our other classics, such as kadhi pakoda or shahi paneer, ready-to-eat meals.

High-Protein Ready Meals to Pack for a 3-Day Trek

The trekkers need high-protein, ready-to-eat meals to maintain their energy levels throughout their ascents. Indian RTE food solutions consisting paneer, lentils, and chickpeas provide complete nutrition in simple, easy-to-use formats.  With these nutritious meal options, they feel energised for outdoor activities all day long.

  • How ShimlaRed Retort Technology Supports Trekking

ShimlaRed readymade meals are prepared using advanced retort technology to preserve authentic taste and nutritional integrity while extending shelf-life without preservatives. So, trekkers can easily carry their healthy, ready-to-eat food for many days without the need for refrigeration. The lightweight ready meals eliminate the need for cooking gear, making your backpacks lighter and journeys simpler.

  • Food-Safe, Durable Packaging for Outdoor Use

Our stand-up RTE pouches are made from a strong three-layered laminated structure for safe food preservation. The outer ALOX PET material protects food against moisture and oxygen. And, the nylon inner layer offers puncture resistance to the outer pouch. Meanwhile, the inner cast polypropylene material directly comes into contact with the food product while providing heat resistance. Hence, these triple-layered pouches enable hikers to easily carry healthy, ready-to-eat meals through rugged terrain.

Complete Heat-and-Eat Trekking Meal Kit (Rice, Curries & Pre-Made Meals)

A perfect meal combination is when you pair ready-to-eat rice with flavourful ready-to-eat curry. At ShimlaRed, we offer pre-made meals and combo packs, including a variety of authentic curries and staple or flavoured rice.

Trekking is all about freedom to breathe fresh air and explore magnificent sights, not indulge in complicated cooking. So, packing smart food is as vital as selecting the right boots for your journey. Shimla Red offers a wide variety of curry ready-to-eat options for hikers to enjoy anywhere the trail leads. Next time, when you head to your next trek, don’t forget to pack our instant meal solutions with you.

I Stood at 5,416 Metres Above Sea Level and Here Is What Nobody Told Me About Thorong La Pass

It is 3am and you cannot feel your fingers.
You are standing outside your teahouse at Thorong High Camp, 4,925 metres above sea level, in complete darkness. The stars above Nepal are extraordinary from this altitude. That is the last thing you notice before you put your head down and start walking toward one of the highest trekking passes on Earth.
Thorong La Pass sits at 5,416 metres on the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. It is higher than Everest Base Camp. It is higher than any mountain in North America or Europe. And every year thousands of completely normal, non-professional trekkers cross it and come back changed by the experience.
Here is what most guides do not tell you.
The hardest part is not the climb. The descent from the summit to Muktinath drops over 1,600 metres on steep rocky trail and by the time you reach the bottom your legs are shaking and your knees feel like they belong to someone much older than you. The climb tests your lungs. The descent tests everything else.
The tea house at the summit is not always open. This sounds like a small thing until you are standing at the top in minus 15 degree wind chill having burned through every calorie in your body and you realise there is no hot tea waiting for you. Carry your own snacks. Always.
The afternoon winds are not a suggestion to leave early. They are a wall of force that can reach 60 to 80 kilometres per hour and trekkers who start late deal with conditions that are genuinely dangerous. Leave by 4am. Reach the summit before 9am. This is not a preference, it is the difference between a beautiful crossing and a miserable one.
Most importantly, the altitude does not care how fit you are. The fittest person in any group is not automatically the one who crosses successfully. Altitude sickness is democratic. What matters is how slowly and carefully you ascended through the lower sections, how well hydrated you stayed, and whether you had an experienced guide who knew exactly how to pace you from day one.
The moment at the summit is real. Prayer flags in every colour whipping in the wind. The entire Annapurna massif spread behind you. The sacred Mustang valley opening up ahead toward Muktinath. It is one of those rare places that makes you understand why people spend their whole lives chasing these moments in the mountains.
For everything you need to know before you go, the complete altitude breakdown, difficulty guide, day by day itinerary, monthly weather guide and expert safety tips from local guides who have crossed Thorong La hundreds of times:
