WONDERS

This morning, I went to mass. As it was about to start, a little boy entered the church. He was in ragged clothes and seemed to not have taken a bath. He maybe called as one of the street children based on his appearance. Because of this, some of the mass-goers stared at him. It may be because he entered the church without wearing clothes decent enough, or because he looks strange with his head inclined in an awkward angle, his eyes looking into endless space (or fixed at the crucifix, i am not really sure).

I am guilty for also staring at him. Aside from his appearance, I also noticed that he was holding an envelope (the one where people place money and offer it during the mass) and a rosary. He was struggling to place the rosary inside the envelope.

He then found his way to a vacant seat before the mass started. The woman beside him stared at him in disgust. I thought I might have reacted the same way, until I once again noticed the boy during offertory. He lined up for the offering, with a man (seated on the remaining little space beside him beforehand) assisting him while doing so. If he was able to place the rosary inside the envelope, I really have no idea.

The part of the mass when I noticed him again was when one church song was being sung. When I looked at him, he was singing! yes, he was! That was when I smiled. He must be attending the mass weekly! After all, other mass-goers aren’t singing despite them being “decently dressed” for the occasion.

I should have taken a photo of him if I wasn’t inside the church.

If that kid took a seat to me next time, no matter how he looks, I will do my best to endure about whatever smell or anything he possess. That kid, on my opinion, was one of the wonders that our Lord endlessly gives. <3
