This is my Japanese study tracker. As you can see, my maximum is one week of non-stop studying. I also marked the days when I just watched an episode of “Golden Kamuy” with subtitles. Even if I didn’t understand anything at all. Basically, even the smallest contact with the Japanese language was noted and recorded.
My main motivator and source of inspiration is my husband. He practices English on Duolingo every single day, even when he’s not in the mood or is dead tired. He’s not planning to take any exams, he doesn’t need English for work, and he barely consumes any content in English. But he also doesn’t want to lose his skill. Plus, it hurts to lose his streak of 200 and something days. Just so you know, he doesn’t use “streak freezes” because he thinks it’s cheating. And really, how can you not feel inspired when you live under the same roof with such an overachiever?
As you can see, I tried to repeat my husband’s success, but I’m far from perfect. Right now I’m dealing with some personal challenges — I am, after all, a busy working woman — so there’s been a long break in my studies. There’s also been a break in my posts, although I have a couple of drafts waiting for their moment.
So, guys, don’t despair if you’ve stopped learning a language. Despair won’t help you learn it anyway. Consistency isn’t about being perfect every day; it’s about never giving up completely. We’ll get there!“
