Round 12

The last puzzle of the day was a giant shading puzzle broken up into 37 regions. I made a mistake early on that took me about 10-15 mins to spot. I hope I fixed it and the affected regions but I’m not sure and I couldn’t finish it. It was out of 400 points.

The results from Round 8 have been posted and after getting what I expected, I moved up a bit to 89th unofficially and 57th officially in the standings.

Round 12

This was the last round and had a large variety of sudokus. I broke one of the mid ones but solved the 2 hardest. However, I likely wasted a lot of time and as such, if the ones I think I solved, I’ll get 390 out of 800 points.

Results came back in Round 10 and I ended up getting a guess wrong, which gave me 200 points out of 400. I stayed about the same at 24th officially (and 30th unofficially). After round 7, officially, I was tied for 25th.

This was a very up and down championship for me and it sucks that I lost so many points for one small mistake.

Bazi Lao is definitely the focus of this post, and unfortunately, she will become the sole Lao after this round (if you don’t count her aunt, Magu Tian, and her little niece, Na).

Bazi had to deal with a furious Hanako Yu. There were quite a few kicked over trashcans barrels scattered around the Laos’ garden, but Bazi managed to make amends, and by the end of the round they became friends, at least in terms of the ‘daily’ relationship. Their lifetime relationship leaves a lot to be desired, but the crisis is averted for these two and they won’t start fighting autonomously…

It’s not Bazi’s fault probably that these two girls had a falling out. She was in aspiration failure after her sister’s passing, so she was being rude on community lots. Her 3 nice points probably didn’t help.

Unfortunately, there is another person who is furious with Bazi now…

Fujitaka Tian had a crush on Bazi, but in the end they were not meant to be a happy couple, despite their high attraction (3 chemistry bolts).

Bazi was interested in asking him out. After getting his first kiss, Fujitaka started getting very random wants instead of focusing on his date. Bazi still wanted to fall in love, go steady, make out and even WooHoo… It was quite late during their date already and Bazi happened to be on her Moon Cycle, so I vetoed the WooHoo, which turned out to be a good choice… It could have become more dramatic, had I allowed that.

At that point, I thought Bazi wouldn’t become another concubine of Bu because Fujitaka was interested in going steady but…

Fate decided to pull a prank on Bazi and it turned out that her beloved would notice that something was off about Hisashi’s death. Fujitaka ended up reporting Satet’s crime.

Bazi split up with her short-term boyfriend, even though they both feared the breakup. They just couldn’t be together after this betrayal, and Satet definitely wouldn’t approve of this betrothal. Because of Fujitaka’s action Bazi became a full orphan.

Fujitaka is a Social Butterfly who will do just about anything to be the center of attention so that might be the reason why he reported Satet’s deed. Even though he is Magu’s brother-in-law and his elder brother was friends with Satet, I didn’t think they would have enough influence on Fujitaka to prevent this.

Satet was tried for murder. Death penalty was determined to make the most sense for the crime of killing an elder household member and/or spouse. At the time of her death, Satet had less than 5 days of her adulthood left. Sadly, she never got to become an elder, but at least she met her first grandchild.

I read a little bit about punishments in ancient China and it didn’t look too good for women, or younger relatives who would do something against their seniors. I think realistically she would be given the capital punishment. While men could get away with some domestic abuse, women definitely wouldn’t. Satet is just a commoner here, so it’s likely she’d be beheaded, instead of being put to jail.

The scenario for this family was to spend all their money (preferably 1000$) on the garden and/or landscaping. I only spent ~700$, on 2 trees and terrain paint, but I might add some more Sun&Moon plants…

I thought Satet might have wanted to 'hide’ the urn by making visitors pay more attention to the surrounding foliage, but in the end that attempt wasn’t very effective…

TLDR there have been 2 deaths in the Tia/Siew household, but before that, I played Demiana Tia’s grandfather, Phaesi Garas, and his son Harmine, so that they would be in sync with the rest of their family tree.

Demiana had been sneaking out recently and, unfortunately, ROS gods decided that she would get her comeuppance for this un-ladylike behaviour. Because she sadly passes away, the Tias’ residence is going to be overtaken by the Siews… at least until Zet Tia comes back from war (but even if the war doesn’t claim his life, old age will).

Before it was decided Demiana would perish immediately, I had been considering her options, even though her marriage couldn’t be arranged properly at this time due to the absence of her grandfather. She would have made a great match with Volesus Bruni (originally a Romance sim, now only interested in Grilled Cheese). The other option was Tullus Imago, but the Imagos are not on good terms with the Tias now… especially that Demiana saw Sampsa Imago at the graveyard.

Demiana was an Athletic, Charismatic, and Family-Oriented Sagittarius. She was a very playful and active maiden. Even if she wasn’t particularly pretty, I’d like to think she had a nice physique. Quite nice but also shy, she was hoping to find a romantic partner [or multiple], but her life ended prematurely. She was very friendly towards servants. She made friends with Peregrina, Titia and Cleo Flori (with whom she would sometimes sneak out, which possibly led to her ‘downfall’). She was on good terms with her cousin’s family, the Siews, and naturally, her grandfather Zet Tia will be devastated to hear news of her passing.

Saku and Yune met Phaesi this round to share the grave news of Demiana’s passing. Phaesi lost his daughter Sosen almost as soon as she had left the family home, and now his granddaughter Demiana was also dead.

There is some difference in age between Phaesi and Yune, but they had been BFF-s for some time already. Both Yune and Phaesi wanted to 'marry rich’, and a marriage was arranged for these two Fortune sims. Yune still remembered the times when she was helping her mother with the family business, and she heard Phaesi had his own quite profitable store, which she was interested in.

Saku was very enthusiastic about the betrothal, since she wished for a relative to get engaged, married, and have children. She was also friends with Phaesi.

I felt bad about turning this post into a happy one after Demiana’s death because of Yune Siew’s marriage… but in the end even this was not truly happy…

Yune and Phaesi had 2 bolts of chemistry, but they didn’t want to go on dates, much less get engaged specifically to each other, despite the attraction. This marriage felt like an arranged marriage of convenience between two long-time friends?

Phaesi’s wish to marry rich was fulfilled, but sadly, Yune didn’t get her want. She still wanted to WooHoo though, and she got pregnant first try… with twins… who would both be fine, but… she wouldn’t.

She had twin girls, with purple eyes (dark blue replacement), my first purple-eyed babies! They were called Paesia and Athanasia because I guess we are doing some random saint names for this family now. Paesia is black-haired, while Athanasia is brown-haired. We’ll see how they turn out in the following rounds, for now they are only babies.

Yune Siew was a Diva, Virtuoso, and Born Salesperson with Green Thumb. She always looked up to her musical mother, Saku, who used to work as a Dance professional. She shared her father’s love of Cuisine, even if she didn’t know him very much at all. She was enthusiastic about learning the ropes of running a successful business, but it was never meant to happen…

Before the funeral, I played Demiana’s grandfather Phaesi so that his son Harmine would at last become a teenager.

Phaesi opened a little blacksmith business. He got the Gold Robotics Badge and maxed out the Tinkering enthusiasm. For some reason Phaesi has got a bad reputation. Fitting for a 'merchant’, I guess. He opened his store twice, since I played them for almost two seasons.

He crafted ~8 swords and brooms, but didn’t sell all of them. They got to business rank 3 and I let them get all the money prizes, which brought them to the total of 25,578$ (half of which was just from the rewards). I normally don’t use the LeTourneau Prize, but I thought it was fitting in this situation.

I’m considering making it a requirement from now on for sims who go to war to have swords (average price 1380$), otherwise they might not be doing so well during conflicts. The current war should be exempt from this 'rule’, as there was no way of obtaining swords before.

I am also thinking about letting my servants settle down into their own houses when they can afford the broom (of freedom ;)) priced at 920$ on average… Unfortunately, there is a problem with that, as servants would have been unlikely to get paid much or at all? in this time period, I’m afraid. I would have to think about this more.

The TiaSiew/Garas household had 51,991$ in the bank after I took away ~half of the money Phaesi had brought into this marriage (so that he only brought in his actual earnings). They paid the taxes off of the 25,578$.

• 2,558$ - tax (10%)
• 2,558$ - tithe
• 100$ - marriage license (I keep forgetting about charging for this, and I might have to make it more expensive for community lot weddings, so especially for patricians +)

They paid 8215$ total. They will pay the burial fee when the graves are sent to the graveyard. They are left with ~43,850$. In total the town has accumulated 81,905$ so far.

Realistically the emperor would have a lot of servants, so for now I moved them all together into the imperial palace…

A potentially deadly ROS awaited the imperial household, but thanks to princess Sesheshet’s (emperor’s sister’s) 3 mechanical skill points her odds of survival were improved and the worst case scenario was avoided. However, Sesheshet was supposed to just be bedridden the whole round. That means no fun for her… or anyone else in this household because most sims were sick. Also almost everyone had their moon cycle at the same time.

Sesheshet spent most of the round in bed, with little breaks to teach her daughter Fausta the remainder of her toddler skills. Sesheshet clearly agreed she needed some rest by rolling wants such as getting an expensive recliner. She was clearly telling me she was not impressed with the living conditions at the imperial palace. I established a little royal library (a small study really) with the mysteriously mysterious novel next to the jailcell, and a couple of simple twin bedrooms for all the ladies and servants in the house.

This wasn’t a very eventful round, outside of the kids’ birthday parties, but it took me a while to play… because it’s a lot of sims to control. The only healthy servant, Cleo, was allowed to get close to the empress and paint her and the heir to the throne.

Empress Sen wanted to become fit, but also to learn cooking. Her desires seemed to be divided between looking good and eating well. At first she also wanted to become a zombie, but thankfully she got those dark thoughts out of her pretty head quite quickly. An empress needs to be a living, breathing organism, so I vetoed that want. I would perhaps consider her becoming a witch but she didn’t wish for sorcery.

The future emperor, prince Sertor, is a Capricorn: max Neat, 3 Lazy, 7 Playful, 9 Nice (all like his dad Mnevis). What differentiates him from his father is his shyness, as he’s only 5 Outgoing. He also already knows he’s interested in Cuisine.

I’m a bit afraid something is wrong with prince Sertor. His wishes are strange. He wants to interact with cats, and he wants to play peekaboo. But when someone plays with him, the want doesn’t get fulfilled, so I think he’s getting the want which is supposed to show for children and up…

Hera wanted to propose to Gautseshen. Sadly for her, that union wouldn’t be allowed, unless they ran away and secretly eloped. But I don’t think Gautseshen would do that because she likes the comfort of the imperial palace, where she can keep befriending all the pets and writing her novels. Gautseshen and Hera can be partners but they won’t be spouses officially because of the difference in social classes.

Hera’s heart was broken, but the relationship didn’t take a huge hit, so I think she understood her position. Gautseshen doesn’t have any wants towards Hera and she doesn’t love her anymore for now. They used to be in love as teenagers, but now there is only a one-sided crush on Gautseshen’s side.

Cleo wanted to sneak out with Demiana Tia. She was friends with her before, when she served the Tia family, so I allowed that. Perhaps Cleo would like to move in with the Tia household and serve them again. I thought it made sense for Demiana to be sneaking out, because she was at the cemetery recently.

I need one of my servants to get pregnant soon so they can be proper wet nurses. Otherwise it makes little sense to have them nurse babies. Titia is quite old already, halfway through adulthood, so soon it will be her last chance to have more babies. What’s ridiculous is she has yet to have her ‘first kiss’, even though she has 2 CAS-made daughters (I use the no mystery sim memories mod).

A marathon round of 8 puzzles and a 75 minute time limit. It was the 9th and last round of the day. I got 3 and broke another I tried late. If all correct I got 245 out of 750 points.

Another Form Bites the Dust: Were still deciding on what toppings to put on Salted Cream Alcremie and Rainbow Swirl Alcremie .

Guess Whose Back: The winner of the Round 12 Losers Bracket is ~ Bastiodon! Who is now back in the tournament bracket.

Biggest Turnout: The poll with the most votes was Slugma vs Stunfisk with 172 votes!

Wallflower: The poll with the least amount of votes was a tie between Latias vs Beedrill and Tangrowth vs Alolan Diglett with 70 votes each.

Biggest Discrepancy: The Pokemon with the most votes overall was Shiny Serperior with a wopping 90%. And poor, poor Pupitar only got 10% votes. Leading to Pupitar never standing a chance against Shiny Serperior with a 80% difference in votes.

Head to Head: Spectrier vs Shuckle with a 2% difference.

Notable Moments: Wow. A lot of people showed up for Slugma vs Stunfisk during the last day. It was so so so close between Spectrier and Shuckle with the poll at a even 50/50 just a few hours before the polls closed but a few Spectrier fans pushed it to the win right at the end.
