A Mosaic of Memories

A Mosaic of MemoriesALT

One of 22 art pieces that prize winning, London-based artist Emma Douglas intends to do in memory of her son who sadly passed on near the age of 22 in 2010. This one is in Spa Fields.

This capture was biased 2 stops darker to keep the surroundings muted so that, hopefully, nothing in the image would detract from the art work.

DJ is a memorial character

He passed away 8 years ago today. He was mine and Dnor’s DM for Pathfinder (tabletop RPG) and the reason we met, he was also a player in other games. He was one of the kindest and most beautiful souls I’ve ever encountered. I believe he is part of my soul family and I believe I have seen him post-death in dreams; he’s very happily chasing mermaids, ha! He used to roll 9’s on D20’s and get us in trouble allll the time, and yes, he even passed away on March effing 9th. People think it’s morbid and rude to laugh at that but that’s because I know he’d be laughing his ass off about it.

Dnor and my (chosen) sister help me write DJ. My sister knew him way longer than I did and Dnor has better memory of his mannerisms than me. You know, the little things like keeping a D20 from Nina’s cleavage as good luck, lol.

It seems like no time has passed since his death. It still hurts. I’m lucky to have known him, we’re all lucky to have known him. I hope he’s still chasing mermaids. <3

The Case That Shocked Massachusetts: Brian Walshe and the Disappearance of Ana Walshe

In January 2026, Brian Walshe was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the death of his wife, Ana Walshe, a case that has captivated the nation and raised serious questions about domestic abuse and accountability.

What makes this case especially chilling is that Ana’s body has never been found. Investigators revealed that Walshe had reportedly searched online for phrases like “how long before a body starts to smell” before she went missing, highlighting the disturbing premeditation involved.

After years of careful investigation and forensic work, Walshe ultimately pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. The court determined that life without parole was the appropriate sentence.

Cases like this remind us that justice can take years, and sometimes the truth comes slowly. It also underscores that not all law enforcement is ineffective—dedicated detectives worked tirelessly to bring answers to Ana Walshe’s family.

This story has left the public debating an important question: How do we protect families and ensure accountability when evidence is limited or victims are missing?

Whether you’re reading from Massachusetts or anywhere else, it’s a chilling reminder that domestic violence can hide in plain sight—and the work to expose it requires persistence, vigilance, and compassion.

A Case That Sparked National Debate: The Sonya Massey Case

One case that has sparked national attention involves former Illinois sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson and the death of 36-year-old Sonya Massey.

In January 2026, Grayson was sentenced to 20 years in prison, the maximum sentence allowed, for his role in the fatal shooting of Massey inside her home in Springfield, Illinois.

What makes this case especially troubling is how it began. Massey had called 911 herself to report a possible prowler near her home. When deputies arrived, body-camera footage later showed the situation escalating inside the house. At one point Massey picked up a pot of boiling water, and Grayson responded by threatening her and then firing his weapon. Massey was unarmed at the time she was shot.

A jury later convicted Grayson of second-degree murder, and the judge imposed the maximum sentence.

Cases like this understandably raise serious questions about police accountability and the use of force. At the same time, many people emphasize that one officer’s actions do not represent all law enforcement. Across the country, many officers serve their communities responsibly and put their lives at risk every day.

Still, when incidents like this occur, the public expects the justice system to review the facts and hold individuals accountable when wrongdoing is found.

The outcome of the case continues to leave many people discussing an important question: Was justice served?

And of course our beloved Cormorant taken too early, watched over by the @dappermouth borzoi. I remember stumbling across their booth at FanX last year and was so shocked to see them and their art after following them for so long. Who would have guessed I’d lose Cormorant just days later in the accident and that the art I purchased would become part of the memorial.

It was such a significant trip where I decided the whole future Cormy and I would have. She did so well in the car and camping I…I just can’t think about that right now.

God Cormy, I miss you. I love you so much. I am forever sorry.

“The task was not to author a narrative,” Pinnock affirmed, “it was to create a place where collective memory could stand on its own.”

The man, woman, and child engraved into the wall were derived from descendant family photographs that designers encountered during the community engagement process.

Water runs at the base of the wall, eliciting a subtle trickling noise. In plan, the memorial occupies a prominent corner site and is defined by sinuous curves.

Five large stones provide seating that faces the wall, offering a contemplative space for memory, mourning, reflection, sanctuary, solace, healing, ceremony, and collective action, Baskervill shared.”

Between 2021 and 2025, Black nonbinary artist Sage Ni’Ja Whitson visited 91 locations across 15 states – in all of these sites a trans, gender nonconforming, or intersex individual had died, either by murder or suicide. At each site they conducted a ceremony of their own to bear witness to what had happened there.

“It was very challenging in ways that I’m continuing to mend from and rest with,” they said. “It is not ‘inexpensive’ on my body and spirit. That cost I knew would be there.”

Currently showing at Los Angeles’s California African American Museum (CAAM) is These Waking Glories, Whitson’s solo show displaying a variety of photos and other pieces in conjunction with these ceremonies. A moving and important bearing of witness to the violence that continues to ravage the communities of both racial and gender minorities, it is a powerful show that should be experienced.
