I stayed up all night on Thursday-Friday talking to my Muslim friend about everything, including religion. It was really cool to talk to her and learn about Islam and we were both very respectful and stuff. What stuck out to me though is that I remember her saying at like 3am that even though she’s a very devout Muslim, shes always wanted to experience baptism to “see what it’s like” and that she didn’t “mean it in a Christian way but just always felt compelled by it”. Woah. And we were both very careful to respect each others beliefs all night but I was like girllll that’s the Holy Spirit. That’s the pull to Christ. Girl.

Mostly I don’t give a shit what the goyim do, or what they think about us, I don’t trust Christians, after 2000 years of Expulsion, Inquisition, Pogrom, and Holocaust.
But it is nice to see, after swimming in a sea of antisemitic filth, that someone, somewhere, cares enough about something, to do anything at all, to actually improve things, even if it’s just an infinitesimal amount.

Baptism is God’s gracious work in us, not a display of our obedience.

THE BIBLE STUDY –
February 24, 2026
Pastor Tom Steers
Christ the Saviour Lutheran Church, Toronto
Our readings from the daily lectionary are Genesis 7:11 – 8:12 and Mark 3:20-35.
In the days of Noah, the waters rose, and a stubbornly un-Godly world drowned. Yet in the midst of judgment, God remembered His servant and all with him in the ark.
The simple phrase, “God remembered Noah,” is the heartbeat of grace in Genesis Chapters 7–8. God’s remembering is not mere recollection; it is His active faithfulness, His steadfast resolve to preserve His people and bring them into new life.
In our Gospel text, Jesus confronts a different kind of flood — a rising tide of unbelief.
Jesus’ own family thinks He is out of His mind, and the scribes accuse Him of being in league with Satan. But Christ stands firm. He binds the ‘strong man,’ plunders his house, and gathers a new family — not by violent storm, but through His sacrifice on the cross.
We read that crowds pressed in on Jesus from every side. Yet even in the crush of ministry, He made clear that membership in God’s family is not defined by bloodlines or proximity, but by hearing and believing the Word of God.
Confronted with Christ’s undeniable works of mercy, the scribes hardened their hearts and called His divine power demonic.
Their accusation leads Jesus to issue one of Scripture’s most sobering warnings: “whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness.”
This is not a threat aimed at repentant believers, nor does it speak to a momentary doubt or even a particularly shocking sin. It is a stark warning about stubborn, lifelong rejection of the Holy Spirit’s witness to Christ.
Denying Jesus as Lord and Saviour is to refuse the very forgiveness God offers through the crucified and risen One. The Holy Spirit uses God’s means of grace, His Word and Sacraments, to work faith in Christ within us.
Still, the comfort for Christians here is profound: the very fear of committing the unpardonable sin is itself evidence that in them the Spirit has drawn the heart to repentance and faith in Christ.
In our Gospel passage, Jesus turns to those seated around Him and declares that all who receive His Word in faith are His true brothers, sisters, and mother.
In a world that often measures worth by achievement or lineage, Jesus gives a better identity — one grounded in His mercy and secured by His cross.
Today, rest in the assurance that you belong to Him – not because of your strength or decision, but because the Spirit has opened your heart to trust the Saviour who shed His blood for you at Calvary.
In a world that often misunderstands or opposes Christ, the Spirit keeps us anchored to the One who saves, now and for eternity.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, our true Ark of salvation, keep us steadfast in Your Word when the world rages around us.
Remember us in Your mercy, and by Your Spirit make us members of Your eternal family. Strengthen our faith until the day You bring us into the new creation You have promised. Amen.
