<3 accurate sackboy doll that also doubles as a bag when you zip it open (still keeps it’s shape when empty)
611 - The Tower of Silence by alexsiro
i don’t know why this level stands out so much for me, but it really is one of my faves. It’s just so chill? Deeply cozy vibes?
i really like the material choices here, and the shaping suits the level really well. Like, most everything about the presentation here is top marks. The level does have a decent enough flow to it, and some fun gameplay, although alexsiro has put together a teleport if you fall too far, so it’s impossible to actually die. i get it, and i don’t mind terribly; i’d probably mind a lot more if you could fall all the way to the bottom, and then have to climb all the way back up if you missed a jump. Still, i could see some players being a little weird over that.
Just all in all a real nice level, and definitely one i feel like i could strongly recommend.
573 - Frosty Frolics by GreyMRP
Pretty cute one here wiv a lot going on. Love the giant snow bunny, and the wee snow bunny family you have to reunite. Nothing too troublesome play-wise, tho’ i can see the stay on the rolly bit or fall on the spikes being annoying if you struggle wiv that, at least that part’s not over-long.
574 - Mount Glacier by fabimus
Hooo-doggies, this one, tho’, was a whole time of it. Nothing impossible, but there’s a _lot_ of it, and it does get to feel a bit draggy by the end. The explosives maze(?) thing was interesting, but i have the memory of a goldfish, so it did not go particularly well on stream, and i had to write down the proper paths when i went for the archive recording.
575 - Rapid Rocket Race III - Winter Edition by CYMBOL
Another level full of hard-adjacent challenges. It was a bit more difficult getting all the secret bits in one go, and, again, really probably a bit longer than really necessary. It did have some neat decorative bits towards the end, and that was cool.
576 - Freezer Burn by L1GhTmArE
577 - Freezer Burn 2: Citrus by L1GhTmArE
Really cool little series here. Loved the sci-fi and freezer (like for food) mix to the aesthetics, and the gameplay was a lot of fun. It’s always nice to see the creatinator put to inventive use, especially given it all but disappeared in LBP3 levels.
578 - Magic Light (Platformer) by mpggsmpggs
This one’s real cool! It is super funny to me that the level is going for light tricks, and doesn’t use the Illuminator. Tho’ i’m not certain you can set that to have two different colour applications like we see here. Love how integrated the gimmick is wiv the gameplay, and how well presented it is wiv all the little animations. Super good level all around.
579 - Gentleman’s Club by CaptainCrunk-116
i mean, it’s short and sweet. i guess it manages the theme well enough? i’ve never been to a gentleman’s club. Plenty of strip clubs, but i figure those are aiming for a different vibe?
580 - Freeze It Off! by Pan_Ziemniac
This one’s alright. Not really a winner, but not really a stinker, either. The flamethrower was kinda neat, and i enjoyed hunting around for the secret collectabells. The setting and presentation we decent, if a little standard for the setting. Kinda felt like the blowinator power up was a bit tacked on. It doesn’t get nearly as much use, and i kind of forgot it was there when i needed it.
581 - Escape from the Dollhouse by jet_daikon
i can’t lie, i think this one’s kind of hard on the eyes? Just kind of unappealingly kludgy, instead of charmingly so. On the other hand, jet is trying a lot of things wiv the gameplay, and most of them land pretty well, so i really can’t complain too much. Very mixed bag hours.
582 - Winter Ends by Lafontaine92
i can’t say i totally get how the level connects to its title, but it is a fair amount of fun, so i’ve not got too much to complain about here. It’s another level using the blowinator to do completely not related to blowinator things, and that’s amusing. Appreciated how Lafontaine makes sure the gameplay elements (and changes to them) are visually distinct so the level stays easy to parse.

And that’s it for another batch. i’ve really got to get these write-ups wrote up earlier than almost midnight the night before.

262 - Welcome to the Flip-Side by Trindall
263 - Heart of the Flip-Side by Trindall
A pair of old favourites for our special drop today. i’m deeply in love wiv how well Trindall has managed to pull off these big, sweeping level changes using old-school LBP1 logic, and all the physics buggery that entails. Super cool that they give us a dev room in the second, so we can get an idea of just how planned out the level needed to be, and just how annoying it must have been to set up.
The level descriptions promised us a trilogy, but that never materialized. Trindall mentions in the dev room sequence that they’d had a bit of trouble coming up wiv inventive ways to use the central conceit, which is why we get some big, space-consuming movement sections in towards the end, so maybe they just couldn’t see where to take things next. And really, when you’ve already got a huge, honkin’ four quadrant game space which rotates to provide eight different views, i can see how that would be difficult to expand on.
In the end, both of these levels are clever and fun, and wholly worth a good playthrough, so give ‘em a dl, and go to town, eh?
i don’t really do a lot of private server level playing, let alone archiving, but these came up during streams, and they were fun enough.
599 - The Sponge Temple by SomeKindOfHyena
This one’s decent enough, tho’ to be perfectly honest, once you get past the gimmick, there’s not an awful lot of sauce on it. It’s real big, not so much the level itself, but the scale of the structure, lots of inviting places to physics your way up to, but then you get there and it’s, like, five point bubbles, and that’s always kind of a let down. The secret hyena was a lot more interesting to me, just for adding a bit of the creator in there, kind of like Alpenglow02’s hidden Kirbs.
Still, it is largely well-constructed, and it’s definitely a level, which i realize comes off as a backhanded complement, but so much of what comes up on the published pages is just memery. Just like old times!
i will say, i’d be interested to know how SomeKindOfHyena managed the material shaping. Sponge (and the other soft materials) doesn’t generally hold a sharp edge like that. It’s like they backported the Material Tweaker’s Remove Bevel function. Honestly, for as much as i rag on Sumo, and as much as they deserve ragging on, Remove Bevel is such a useful tool. Get tonnes of mileage out of it.
600 - DANGER! Mine Closed! by Digital_Dragon
This one might not be quite as well-presented as other levels i’ve seen working the theme, but it well makes up for it wiv the gameplay. A bit challenging at times, but nothing that should stress out players, and it manages to keep a nice momentum throughout. Really liked the bits where you needed to jump off and run after the mine cart to stay out of danger, and wish Digital_Dragon had leaned a bit more into that. Still, this was a good one, and i’m glad i gave it a shot.

Picked up Angels by May Leitz on a whim, and it’s not a lot a lot, but it is a little a lot. Really wanted to read her Girlflesh, but that wasn’t up on the Amazon, so nuts to that, i guess.
