“I am not wiser,” I said. “But I am beginning to be brave.” I picked up our knife and turned it in the light, and the blade seemed more beautiful than any jewel. “I understand what it is to be a man.”
“God forbid,” said Damienne.
But I said, “To be a man is to have your way.”
“And is that good?” she said. “And is it right?”
“It is satisfying,” I told her.

Made the mistake of reading a Western fantasy comic. It had two volumes! It’s still listed as an ongoing series! It has gorgeous art and a slow burn story with almost frustrating levels of “show barely enough to hint at deep lore” worldbuilding!
The last issue was released in 2020!
This is why I read manga almost exclusively!

Isola from Dragon Cursed. I’ve actually drawn a bit but just never finish anything. I never finished the background on this either.

He’s saying words, but he’s talked for so long that you aren’t even able to focus anymore. What is he saying?

Outside of an unusually stiff and sore body, he felt like he had just simply woke up. Only difference was that he did not wake up in a bed. He woke up as if he was just brought back to this city. Was he really gone? The date told him that he had been indeed missing for some time. A little over four years, if he recalled his last memory correctly. Even then, he felt his memory was foggy. Perhaps it was just due to having been gone for years, but that didn’t matter now. What mattered was that he was there now.
So how much had changed since he had been gone? New faces, old faces? He would have to venture out to see for himself. He would need to find a new job, probably try to set up a new house once he was settled, and he would need to get this stiffness out of him. At least one plus was in all this: he didn’t feel like he was missing anything. There was that for a good thing. Whether he was really glad to be back or not? Well…

“Even if I am not meant to be among the living, I can be grateful to have this time. Even if I already know it’s limited… and confined within these boundaries.” He spoke aloud as if to confirm this with his own voice. To hear it had him feeling a little better even if he knew some may no longer be there. Memories of those days with his brother, with loved ones… Awkward times, troublesome times, pleasant times? He could remember so many faces. From a troublesome princess, to problematic characters… He could remember these faces despite a hazy memory of his final days. Taking in a breath of this crisp, cold air, he could at least be thankful that he left during the winter and returned during it. Didn’t have to get use to any chances in that. Not only that but winter was a beautiful season. There was one thing to keep in mind, too. With the holidays approaching, that would mean something would be coming. The unpredictability of this city… he’d have to always keep that in mind.
“At least nothing is on fire…”

“Right?”
I remain confused about the plot; the art is so beautiful, and the world that the characters exist in is fascinating, but context is missing and I found myself constantly flipping back a page to see if I missed something. The characters were doing a lot of heavy lifting for me; a tragic lesbian story about a queen and her knight is very compelling, and I was sad to see that this second volume was the last one, so I won’t be getting any resolution to this story unfortunately. Sad!
