Yak-5 (Soviet Union)

A high-altitude interceptor fighter developed right at the beginning of WW2.

They also developed an engine specifically for high-altitude use, but it was too difficult for the Soviet Union to complete it, and it never reached mass production.

It’s not like Soviet aviation technology was actually that bad, you know—that’s literally the thing people say the most.

Convair F-106 Delta Dart was USAF premier dedicated interceptor of Cold War and is widely regarded as the ultimate development of the “Century Series” fighters. The F-106 corrected the F-102’s aerodynamic and performance shortcomings and became a true Mach-2 interceptor.

Ki-109 (Japan)

The Tairyū, a 75mm cannon-equipped aircraft developed as homeland air raids were starting to get really dangerous. Even with its one-hit-kill tactic, the engine’s performance was insufficient, so it wasn’t practical to use.

The Japanese aircraft industry has always been plagued by engine issues, huh.

Just finished watching Interceptor on Netflix. It’s clearly a low budget action flick (most of the film takes place in the same command room), but the action is actually pretty good. The director -Matthew Reilly - is primarily an author (my favourite, in fact) who writes the best action novels ever, so it makes sense that the action scenes would be great.

Some of the dialogue’s a bit cliche’d and silly, but that’s kinda true with a lot of action movies, even the classic ones.

Elsa Pataky does a great job in the action scenes and she’s a decent actress as well. She does well with what’s in front of her and the action scenes are believable, which is more than can be said for a lot of big budget movies nowadays.

Also, Chris Hemsworth has a pretty funny cameo as an electronic store employee.
