You know we actually had agi in the 1700s, they were called, well I can’t say the word, but they got recognised as people and are now colloquially referred to as black. The US had a whole ass civil war about it. AI companies just want slaves without the social and legal implications

I follow r/IsThisAI to try and train myself to spot it but god I’m so bad at it 😭 I’m pretty observant irl but pictures just don’t happen for me. I’ve also never been good at those “spot the difference” puzzles. It’s like my brain slides over details when it’s not real life. It doesn’t seem to matter that I read the comments and go back to check out all the obvious AI tells that people mention. 70% of the time it still looks real to me. Ugh.

Like there’s some stuff that’s obvious AI, but the sort of stuff that’s posted in the subreddit is a lot less obvious. But some people still clock it immediately. I’m so afraid and so certain that I frequently see AI stuff and don’t notice it.

When the meme looks like AI, but you can’t prove it without using a AI checker which is AI itself.

Given that Windows and Adobe both have significant portions of recent patches written with AI, can any work created using them be considered “AI-free”?

Like, obviously there’s a difference between “I typed a sentence into chatgpt and received the art now presented” and “the paper I drew this on was made in a mill with AI automation”…

Or have we gotten to the point where “AI-free” can only be a feel-good marketing term like “organic”?

ACCIDENTALLY got into something what looked like an AI generated workout video (which I only realized when the “trainer” could do the same hip sway for the whole video without missing a beat ☠️) and I cannot tell you how much IT SUCKED—!!!!!

🧩 Building Blocks of AI

Artificial Intelligence isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a carefully constructed system made of interconnected “blocks” that mirror how humans learn, reason, and create. This visual guide breaks down the complexity into colorful, tangible pieces, showing how modern AI evolves from simple neural networks into powerful large language models.

✨ At the foundation, we see neural networks—layers of nodes that process information, much like neurons in the brain. From there, transformer architectures revolutionize how machines understand context, enabling today’s most advanced language models. These models don’t just analyze—they generate, creating text, images, and even video.

⚡ But with great power comes risk. Generative AI can sometimes produce hallucinations—outputs that sound convincing but are factually incorrect. This highlights the importance of human oversight, critical thinking, and responsible use.

🎨 What makes this representation so engaging is its LEGO-style metaphor: each block is a reminder that AI is built step by step, concept by concept. Just like constructing a tower, every layer matters, and the integrity of the whole depends on the strength of its parts.

🌍 As AI continues to shape industries, education, and creativity, understanding these building blocks empowers us to use it wisely. It’s not just about machines—it’s about how humans and AI collaborate to unlock new possibilities.

🔑 The takeaway: AI is not magic. It’s engineering, mathematics, and imagination—stacked together to form modern intelligence.

I think people ought to stop calling Large Language Model chatbots “AI”. The term conflates this relatively new technology with several other existing and historical technologies. LLM means one specific technology, plain and simple.

Qualifying it with the phrase “generative AI” doesn’t help. It’s a vague distinction on top of an already vague umbrella term. It implies there are “non-generative” applications of LLM which is missing the point.

Just say “LLM chatbot” or “LLM-generated” so people can can actually understand what this thing is and what it isn’t, what it does and what it doesn’t.

What Is the Main Goal of Generative AI?
What is Generative AI?

Generative AI is a type of software artificial intelligence that is capable of generating new content in the form of text, images, audio, and video, using patterns and information found in existing data to do so. Compared to traditional AI systems, which are usually created to analyse and interpret data, generative AI goes a notch higher to generate original information, which may even resemble that created by human beings.

What’s the etiquette when you spot AI art on Tumblr? Just keep scrolling?

In general I feel like AI use should be challenged and discouraged by default, so that we can develop a social norm against using it. But accusing someone’s art of being AI is dicey, right? Like, if that is in fact their real art then imagine how devastating it would be to have someone look at your hard work and say that a machine made it.

I don’t know what to do about this.
