I am blessed to also be able to garden 🌱 outside. Although houseplants are my passion, I do spend a good amount of time in my yard. It is harder than it used to be as I have had 2 major surgeries on my back and neck, so it isn’t as weed free as it should be. Anyway, I LOVE 💚 ferns🌿, which you probably know as I tell you alot. Did you know there is an asplenium that is hardy outside? 🤔 There is probably more than one- I don’t know, but I have Asplenium scolopendrium (pics 1-3), or Hart’s 🦌Tongue fern. It is just unfurling in my Zone 6a garden in Michigan. Pics 4-5 are my ‘Crispy Wave’ bird’s 🐦 nest (Asplenium nidus) unfurling inside. It is on my counter under lights 12+ hours a day and it still knows it is spring! I added pics 6-8 of my ostrich fern 🌿 because it is so gorgeous and thought you might enjoy it. Going over my sketch with different colored Sharpies.✍🏻 When it comes time to carve, grey pencil on grey linoleum isn’t going to cut it.✂️ (HA!) There is so much detail that I am using different colors to help differentiate the positive and negative space.◻️◼️ As you can see, I’m not *too* concerned with “perfection” on this one, I want to have a lot of movement in the leaves.〰️〰️〰️ I get so excited during the process…thinking, planning, drawing, redrawing…I really become connected to what I create on another level.🤗

I’m not scared about this Davallia fejeensis (rabbit’s foot fern) having no drainage holes because I know it is getting enough light and I’m regularly aerating the soil. One additional step is to be cautious of the total volume of water I pour in - I typically do not exceed half the total volume of potting medium (mostly sphagnum moss)
