Something I’ve tried to commit to lately is to stsrt my day by finding some art on here and giving the artist a sincere, detailed, and specific compliment. Examples are, “The way you’ve created depth with a limited color palette is really effective!” or, “You really know how to use shapes, the geometry here is lovely!” or, “Wow, your characters have so much personality, you’ve done a great job with facial expressions and body language!”
When you’re an artist, there’s a lot of self-doubt, and posting your work can feel like sending a slice of your soul out into the void. Artists need validation, even a simple, “This is so pretty!” can save an artist’s life. Something specific and detailed further acknowledges the blood, sweat, and maybe actual tears that went into making the piece. A compliment like that can feed an artist for WEEKS, it can restore our creative power and keep us going when we feel like the well is running dry. I really cannot overstate how important that type of positive feedback is.
And it’s nice to get into conversation with artists this way! Everyone I’ve given a positive critique to has been glowingly happy for it, and making someone’s day really starts me off in a great frame of mind, too. Highly recommend it as a regular practice.
First time watching IT Welcome to Derry I couldn’t make out so many details before on around a 13in screen. Now I’m seeing so many details watching on around a 45in screen and I’m amazed what I missed.
