It’s back!! And I figured out why, it involves my own personal mandela effect. I could of sworn this 13” MacBook Pro was a mid-2010 with an i5 processor but now it’s a mid-2009 with a Intel core 2 duo processor. So weird cuz the fact that it was newer and had a better processor was the reason I bought it.
Back in 2012, I was cutting a short film that was shot on RED in 4K on my current 15” 2009 MacBook Pro. I made 1080p proxies and edited the short along with colour correction but when it came time to export. The damn thing took 4 days and would always fail. So I bought this newer 13” Mid-2010 MacBook Pro with the i5 processor. Upgraded the OSX, ram and Premiere. Now the export took 3 days instead of 4 and it actually finished properly. I delivered on the project. As time went on the screen on this laptop started having issues and I used it less and less but now we’ve been using it a lot in the living room with a monitor for YouTube, so it’s been valuable in that regard. Like I said it in my earlier post, it was slowing down so I wanted to update the OSX to High Sierra thinking it was a mid-2010 only to find out it’s actually a mid-2009 which is the cut off. I can’t explain it. Why would I replace my 15” MacBook Pro with a 13” MacBook Pro if it was the same year (2009) and processor (intel core 2 duo)? I pride myself on knowing my computers specs so this threw me for a loop. Other than the ram upgrade 4 to 8gb but that would be transferable. Very mind boggling but explains why I was getting the do not enter sign, with it being an early 2009 it’s too old for Sierra and needs El Capitan. I can’t make a boot drive for El Capitan in Sierra and I don’t have any computers in Yosemite anymore so I went with the trusty old Snow Leopard Disc. At least it brought it back to life so I could check the specs. Ok, so my computer got open-heart surgery this weekend. I worried a little and cried a lot BUT in the end my computer survived. My 250 GB Hard drive was over loaded with crap I have been hoarding since 2007 and it was replaced with a new 1 trig hard drive by the skilled and talented Mark Weber. I even got to keep my old hard drive (and it now gets to travel around with me in a pretty case).
After a long, boring, tech jargon explanation later I found out that this apparently it’s just a routine procedure. However, the fact that it was done in a day and my computer is faster, quieter, and in perfect condition kind of impressed me, and makes me want to show you the super cool pictures..…
