A setting looking to the north while taking in views across eroded formations and sandstone buttes in this northern Arizona high desert landscape. This is at the Mittens and Merrick Butte viewpoint overlook with a view looking to Sentinel Mesa, Brighams Tomb, Stagecoach, Sentinel Mesa, and West Mitten.

My Navigations in Chaco Culture National Historical Park by Mark Stevens

While at a roadside pullout along the main park road with a view looking to the southwest to Fajada Butte not long after entering the park entrance. The setting is looking across the high desert landscape in this part of northern New Mexico. My thought on composing this image was to use some high ground that I was located on and capture sweeping view looking across the setting to my front while centering Fajada Butte in the image center. I wanted a balance between the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image with the blue skies and clouds above. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 7 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

While at an overlook viewpoint for The Mittens and Merrick Butte with a view looking to the north to other sandstone formations and buttes of in the distance. This is in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. In composing this image, I wanted to keep a leveled-on view with the horizon, balancing the earth-tones and lower portion of the image with the blues of the skies above. I also wanted to have the red pigment in the formations going across the image center with the different buttes and spires in kind of a symmetrical feel for the image.
From left to right, one can see Brighams Tomb, Stagecoach, Sentinel Mesa, and West Mitten as identified on the PeakVisor app on my iPhone.

This view of Butte was made from Saddle Rock Road and Shorty Drive. The streaks come from traffic on I-90. The “M” on the hilltop beyond is for Montana Technological University.
