This one is mostly interesting because I don’t really like birds. Bit freaked out by things that can fly, really. That said, here they are!

  1. Penguins. They are adorable.
  2. Pigeons. Although they are often nearby, I don’t really see them flying very often. It makes them less scary.
  3. Crows. They are smart enough that I don’t get too freaked out by their presence. I trust, somehow, that they know I am not going to hurt them but I also do not want to be friends.
  4. Hummingbirds. I don’t think it could hurt me if it tried. I also don’t think it has any interest in trying. And they are beautiful.
  5. Ducks. We are now listing a bird that does, in fact, scare me up close. I would not want to be near a duck. But from a distance, on a lake, they can be cute.

Ruffed Grouse

Going out in public with a huge ruff like that was all the rage in the 1980s but for these birds it never goes out of style.

Artist’s Statement:

It’s grey outside, with spits of snow. I’m staying in by the fire with a book…Monday I will be fierce and brave, but for today I will be still.
