I think Covid messed our generation up. Like with micro trends and conservatism everything being on the internet I think messed alot of peoples views on intimacy and what’s normal and that being yourself is odd since everyone online had ever adapting personas. Everyone relied on people the same age or redditors to tell them the meaning of life, stoicism, nihilism, “locking in”, etc. etc.

Obidei cultural shocks from traveling between iwa and konoha

————————————𖤓༄——————————

Supposed to be for my fanfic but I’m not writing that-

☕︎ for the most part- people from konoha are a lot more polite than those from Iwagakure. Civilians show their distrust and dislike from others with passive aggression, or simply pretending you don’t exist. Iwa civilians are more blunt and will outwardly show their dislike towards you. They don’t hide behind fake smiles, or sly comments. You will know immediately if someone from iwa doesn’t like you. So when Obito and Deidara went to a tea shop, the owners and customers saw Obito’s hitai and uniform and were immediately hostile. In konoha, when they see the rock sign on Deidara’s headband, they give tense smiles and begin whispering. While Obito can obviously sense the hostility from iwa civilians and shinobi, Deidara was obviously wary of the people of konoha but couldn’t tell if they were being fake or people are oddly nice like Obito…he was wrong. They’d be side eyeing him, and when Deidara asks if they have a problem, they’d shake their heads and laugh. 🥀

☕︎ eating at iwa for the first few months for Obito was brutal. The foods lack greens and are pretty starchy, greasy and heavy on the stomach. Obito is used to fresh light meals with fish, chicken, noodles, and most of all…vegetables. The iwa diet is mainly lamb, beef, rice, potatoes, rooted vegetables, and beans. Iwa nin usually have a stocky body type with larger muscle mass while konoha nin are more lean. All they eat is meat, green vegetables is for fancy restaurants or celebrations. After meals, Obito often feels very sluggish while Deidara is energized. Also the higher the respect they have for a guest- the more meat is placed on one’s meal. Even though iwa isn’t fond of konoha, they don’t want a negative reputation from their uchiha guest. So a giant slab of meat is always placed on Obito’s meal and Obito feels guilty if he doesn’t finish it, so he forces it down XD. Poor deidara is given scraps because they’re used to him. In konoha…after meals, Deidara is hungry and grumpy. The meals are smaller and very healthy. The broths are thin, the meat is pale, and lots of vegetables. When he asks for seconds or thirds, he always gets weird looks. In fact when he was served his first meal he asked “is this the appetizer?” And Obito had to explain that it was the full meal. for food rations for missions, Deidara’s consists of beefy jerky while Obito’s is usually a granola bar that’s gets all his nutrients in.

☕︎ mannerisms- Obito first meeting Deidara just straight believes Deidara is a spoiled brat with no manners just to find out that everyone in iwa acts the way he does. They’re loud, assertive, bossy, easily irritable. They also love to click their tongues, grunt, or scrunch up their noses. Obito had to realize that certain grunts mean different things. They also don’t tend to say “thank you” or “please” or the words “sorry.” They instead show it through a head nod or through gifts. Cutting a fruit and giving half is seen as an apology or a sign of fondness. Affection and love is kind of taboo in iwa, only in areas such as the red light district, you’ll see couples being affectionate. Konoha, you see couples holding hands, giving pecks on the lips or cheeks, or an arm around the waist very often. People from konoha aren’t afraid to hug one another or compliment another’s features etc. and confessing is very normal. People from konoha like to speak in riddles and sound all wise. They’re also very fond of their one-liners like “those who abandon their friends are worst than scum.” They’re very prideful and don’t take disrespect or losing easily. People from konoha also love their apologies. Obito tends to apologize then rub the back of his head. They aliso love their eye contact, while iwa sees eye contact as a challenge, konoha sees it as a sign of respect. People from konoha speak slower and pronounce each syllable along with nodding of their heads which drives Deidara crazy. He tells Obito to get to the point once Obito starts over explaining something. Within missions, konoha shinobi try their best to not immediately kill their opponents unless they have an order to do so, yet their fighting styles are a lot more gruesome and violent. Deidara is rather shocked after he sees how bloody Obito and his victim gets after fighting. Iwa nin fight quickly, with strategy immediately interlinked in their brains. The opponents die quickly with blunt force. They use traps and far distance. Konoha nin are mainly close range shinobi and using sharp tools like swords or kunai which often leaves a bloody aftermath.

☕︎ Konoha is more progressive while iwa is more old fashioned. They’re not against anything particularly- but they’re very curious about such things. With their bluntness, it can def come off as them being negative and not accepting. Konoha would realize Obito and Deidara are probably more than partners and not speak on it, just giving a polite smile. They don’t find it difficult to understand, just two guys dating. Iwagakure on the other hand- they would ask a million questions. They’re not an against it, they’re just genuinely confused. Kurotsuchi would ask “how does two men work” without a care in the world. It would take forever for Onoki and the rest of the higher ups to realize that the two are dating, they just see them as a close team. He’d be more mad that deidara is dating someone from konoha rather than him being gay in general. Gay marriage or couples aren’t very common in Iwa, at least not openly. There’s a lot but since iwa doesn’t do well with marriage and relationships in general, it’s just something that’s not talked about. In konoha when they get an inn and Obito says “a room for two” the clerks don’t bat an eye while in iwa, they’re so confused. 😭 “like one bed or-“

☕︎ another cultural shock is the delicacies eaten for celebrations. Konoha likes to eat their foods raw for some reason. Odorigui is enjoyed at konoha bars and Deidara was very repulsed by it. Even Obito doesn’t eat it, but trying to convince Deidara to do so, he “ate” one but used kamui without Deidara seeing. Deidara tried it, and was very grossed out- very rare of him. In iwa they eat bugs…big ass bugs too. Obito’s eyes nearly popped out his head when Deidara just grabbed a bug and ate it…randomly. And then during a festival, Obito was given roasted bugs, and while Deidara ate it casually, Obito was dry heaving. Again, Obito doesn’t want to seem disrespectful to other cultures, so he forces himself to eat it. Also before they kiss Obito would ask Deidara if he’s eaten a bug lmao-

☕︎ konoha festivals rarely happen but they tend to last days or even weeks. People like to dress in vibrant clothing, cook their best meats, go to the shrines, etc. iwa, they have a celebration every other month. Something randomly happening is an excuse for a barbecue, dancing, and getting drunk. Obito is often left awake hearing the village celebrations far into the morning. Obito is a light sleeper and this even becomes a problem because Deidara sleeps through everything while Obito is often jolting awake or unable to sleep more than a few hours. It’s only when they’re far out into the mountain range or at an inn where he sleeps restfully. Plus the beds in Iwa, are very hard so he often awakes with stiff joints. Deidara complains that the beds in konoha are too soft and would rather sleep on the floor. He only stops complaining asleep in Obito’s arms which is fine by Obito because he something squishy to place his head on.

☕︎ konoha has more respect for their elders and will value their opinions, even letting have the drink or bite or their meal. In Iwa, respect is earned. Deidara often back talks or yells at elders because he has zero respect towards them while Obito even disagreeing will address the older person’s stays before he states his opinion. Also Deidara rarely bows, which in konoha is definitely disrespectful and Obito has to force Deidara to bow in front of the hokage or daiymos. Obito also grabs Deidara hand before he can take a bite of food before the hokage. Konoha is very hierarchal and Deidara doesn’t understand it. In konoha, he sticks out like a sore thumb and even Obito gets embarrassed at times- constantly having to say “he’s not from around here.”

☕︎ iwa is more religion based, with them having many temples dedicated to Buddha but they’re not strict followers, and mainly use it as decorations or for aesthetic purposes. Konoha has its religions but more superstitions based. Even Obito believes in a bunch of things mainly because he grew up around old people- anways his stupid conspiracy theories makes Deidara laugh at him.
