me: I want to read a sad book, like the characters must suffer for a significant portion of it before arriving at a better place, but my preferred genre doesn’t really do this
enter tal bauer’s latest hockey romance:
- starts with the mc contemplating suicide alone at a beach at night
- mc gets injured on the ice, wakes up the next day (kinda) to a perfect life, but doesn’t remember the last year of his life and how he went from that terrible place to this
- decides to just fake it and doesn’t tell anyone about his amnesia including his very serious boyfriend he has somehow acquired after a lifetime of not thinking too much about his sexuality
- it’s like the sweetest romance you can imagine but underlined by such sadness and palpable anxiety it’s almost uncomfortable to read
- it’s 810 pages, longer than tal bauer’s own whisper, a book with actual plot
