1) I was thinking about how I messed up again when I had just made it a goal to focus on listening instead of relating to give proper responses. I wasn’t even mad at myself :’) I used it as a lesson to pause longer or to not listen to my first lol. I know I can do it other times without thinking, now I gotta do it with thinking, but this is how habits change :)
To heal you really gotta be able to forgive yourself. Which is something I have struggled with no matter how often I preach give yourself grace to others. It’s because I need the reminder.
2) holy moly fun with the girls, playing the games was ridiculous at times but full of laughter. I love how much they laugh together. It makes me happy seeing them form cousin memories. Ahhh the picture struggle 🤣 ✌️
Adele is brilliant and a big brainer. I had a vigil candle lit from my goal paper burning, I let the whole thing go last night & planned again to tonight. I came out after my shower with it halfway melted & said some rhyme that ended with them going to bed when at the end of the candle’s life. The girls whined, but I reminded them that when they smelled burnt paper was so long ago so that meant they had plenty of time. Which they accepted. But adele did say she wanted to blow it out but she thought I said at the end of the candle’s light which would mean they’d have to go bed right then.
That was def not what I meant. I mean dead as in nothing left to burn, so I would have just relit it but I love her assumption of meaning that meant bed right then. I stole that so I didn’t have to relite at all muwahaua. I commend her thinking!!! That was very smart💡**

Sabina is very sweet, I was cleaning up in the kitchen and after bringing me her mug, she thanked me for making the hot coco and went to look for more cups, she’s a good kid❤️
Eva!! We had a fantastic science convo & I made a joke about quizzing her afterwords. Grabbed a pen & paper off my desk for the bit so of course she wanted a real test- she nailed every question 🥹 it wasn’t an easy topic either, explaining radiation on the fly was fun
3) I used the fuck out of putting away my laundry and shower to get some off time. I love the girls but I need a lil off time to be fully present when we are together. They had fun anyways- screaming and running around at least

“소금빵”
*소금빵
어느 때부터 소금빵이 인기를 반짝 끌더니
곧 사그러들 줄 알았는데
꽤 진지하게 오래 살아남는다.
나는 사실 이런 유행에 쾌재를 불렀다.
나의 빵취향은 슴슴하고 팍팍하고
그런 류라서
앙꼬없는 기본 빵의 유행이 좋았다.
여기저기 들르는 대로 먹어보면
겉까지 두껍게 빠짝한 것도 있고
포슬쫀득한 빵도 있다.
나는 사실 후자가 더 좋다.
적당히 쫀득한 조직감에
속에 버터가 녹아있고 쫀쫀한 소금빵.
그런 온전한 내취향은
사실 스타벅스 소금빵이었다.
막 매장에서 데워준 소금빵이
따뜻하고 고소하고 쫀득하다.
멀리가지 않아도 어디서나 먹을 수 있어서
이따금 행복해지곤 한다.
유행의 끝에 다다르면 소리없이
단종되겠지만,
모든 애정하는 길들인 취향이
그렇게 사라지곤 했다.
그걸 두려워하기 전에
열심히 즐겨야한다,
유행은 기한이 있는 즐거움이니까.
모처럼의 따뜻한 유행.
여기저기 표준화 되어 즐기게 된
나의 즐거운 유희.

*소금빵
제작년 독산에서 살 적에 집 바로 앞에 베이커리와 커피를 같이 하는 카페가 있었다. 예전에 독산에서 살던 친구가 그 곳 커피는 물론이고 빵도 맛있다고 칭찬이 자자해서 처음에는 거기서 판매하고 있는 원두를 사봤다. 그 원두는 바로 에티오피아 코케허니. 산미가 있는 원두를 좋아하다 보니 예전에 에딧의 커피스토리에서 먹었던 맛처럼 강렬하진 않았지만 꽤 마실만했고, 향도 좋아서 기대 이상이었다. 그 뒤로 독산에 있을 동안 늘 그 카페에서 원두를 구매했다. 어느 날 일요일 이른 오전, 일찍 눈을 떴는데 배가 고파서 뭘 먹을지 고민하다가 그 카페에 베이커리가 있다는 사실을 떠올렸다. 이와 동시에 예전에 친구가 그곳 소금빵도 맛있다는 이야기를 했던 게 생각났다. 대충 옷을 주워 입고 눈 비비며 그 카페에 가보니 기사님이 빵을 굽고 있는 광경이 눈에 들어왔다. 그리고 다른 직원분이 갓 나온 빵을 들고 나오는 것이 보였다. 소금빵은 이미 나와있어서 주문을 하고 받아서 한 입 먹었는데 눈이 동그랗게 커지는 맛이었다. 겉은 살짝 바삭하고 안에는 부드럽고, 버터 맛이 안을 가득 채우니 그렇게 행복할 수 없었다. 사실 이 카페에서 몇 번 원두는 구매했지만 베이커리 쪽은 쳐다도 안 봤는데 소금빵 하나로 완전히 인식이 바뀌었다. 그렇게 소금빵에서 시작한 내 소비는 무화과 깜빠뉴로 이어졌다.

성수에서는 매번 대기 줄이 길어 사기 어렵던 자연도 소금빵을 영종도 본점에서는 쉽게도 살 수 있었다. 타이밍이 잘 맞았던 이유도 있었겠지만 줄을 조금도 서지 않고 샀다. 아쉽게도 소금보다는 버터에 확연히 더 치중된 맛이었다. 빵돌이로서 실망하지 않을 수 없는 기름 범벅 맛. 다시 사 먹을 이유가 없는 맛이었다.
안국 아티스트 베이커리에서도 비슷한 느낌이었다. 런던 베이글과 마찬가지로 빵 자체의 맛보다는 여러 가지 베리에이션과 가게의 컨셉에만 온 정성을 다한 그저 그런 소금빵 맛이었다. 세상에 맛있는 빵은 차고도 넘친다. 이미 소금빵에 대한 기대는 조금도 남아있지 않아서, 이제 어느 베이커리를 가서도 소금빵을 내 손으로 집어 들지는 않을 것이다.
라고 생각했는데 도쿄 긴자에 전 세계 원조 소금빵집이 있단다. 그리고 마침 이번 연휴에 도쿄에 간다. 또다시 잡초처럼 자라나는 기대감. 빵지순례를 다녀온 뒤의 소금빵에 대한 감상은 어떨는지.

밀가루를 끊어야 한다는데..
빵은 너무 맛있다.
실컷 기교를 부린 빵도 좋지만,
짭짤하고 담백한 소금빵도 매력적이다.
이런저런 빵들이 다양하고 맛있지만,
한국인이라면 겨울은 붕어빵이 생각난다.
요즘은 운이 좋아야 만날 수 있는 붕어빵.
겨울이 가기전에 몇 번 더 먹어봐야겠다.
추억으로 먹는 음식들이 있다.
외국에 살 때 철이 되면 제주 감귤이 마트에 들어왔다.
포장지에 쓰여진 한글과 제주라는 글씨가 반가워서 몇 봉지씩 사서 먹었다.
그때 내가 먹은 건 귤이 아니라 한국에 대한 마음이었다.
한국이 최고다.
지금 이때가 그리워질 걸 알기에 한국에서 사는 동안 많이 먹고 많이 즐겨야겠다.
