Two things can be true at the same time.
Be honest about both. This is absolutely the fault of Republicans, we would not be in this situation at all if not for the cruelty of the Republican Party. And also those eight Democrats completely failed their constituents and every American with their submission.
Remember that at the midterms.
okay but faggots: you have got to get more covid conscious. you realize public health is your heritage right? ACTUP NY still exists, still does AIDS activism, and requires masks at their actions because they acknowledge covid as an active threat to people living with HIV/AIDS and other health conditions. did you know the CDC says that being a minority puts you at higher risk for severe covid? and like fuck the CDC but maybe they’re onto something there?
Been thinking on this lately, and what came to my mind was the phrase “you have to create something ugly before you can create something beautiful”.
I hate that we didn’t continue to mask and self isolate after the pandemic. A few days ago I’d overheard the girl who sits next to me talking about how she was still sick from a chest infection but she felt alright enough to go in. Mind you she said this while unmasked and breathing the same air and me and my classmates. Now I’m fatigued and coughing up a storm but I’m glad she could make it to lesson, I guess.
There is no such thing as “natural immunity” against covid, since immune reaction isn’t really a measure of anything but immune activity and whatever “protection” an infection grants someone 1. fades very quickly 2. is just as likely to cause immune dysfunction or even 3. wipe immune memory.
the thing about most YouTube advice/opinion videos is that I see… is like, why would I listen to you?
Your time is spent producing videos. I’d believe you about that, certainly. You’re so young, what insight are you even bringing to this topic? If you believed this stuff, “the truth about creativity/whatever” would you still be spending all your time making and producing YouTube videos? Aren’t you just a pastor? Telling people how to get to a heaven you’ve never seen?
Idk like 1690-2019: “Exposing yourself to less illness causing things is good and prolongs your life. You can do this by cleaning and sanitizing and staying away from others while sick or when illnesses are prevalent.”
2020-2021: “Wow these pathogens sure are frightening given the pandemic! These public health measures work tho! We killed a major strain of the flu by masking! I may never take off the mask in public!”
2022-today: *cough cough cough like a toddler right at your face* “Yeah, I got sick like 4 times this year and now I can’t stop coughing. Also, I have brain fog and memory trouble and things don’t taste good anymore and my memory is bad. It must be chemtrails from the 5g drones that spread all the fog. Why are you wearing that mask?”
fuck i just saw that there are some google street view photo spheres in the gaza strip and now im fucked up
cause the satellite view is recent and its a nightmare just shattered gray expanses of rubble and all these deep ruts through the dirt everywhere that looks like some kind of machinery.
but the photo spheres are from before the buildings were destroyed so there are these cute little courtyard gardens with olive trees and pots with herbs painted in colors and nice little apartment buildings with laundry out to dry on the balconies. and when you zoom out to satellite its just completely obliterated wasteland of rubble and debris
the amount of ableism directed towards people with allergies is insane. like quite frankly. why the fuck are you going out of your way to give someone an allergic reaction? why do people spend so much energy whinging about there being food options for someone with an allergy? “boohoo if I’m not allowed to eat nuts in a public place you’re violating my rights” well you’re violating the right for people with nut allergies to be able to live healthy lives so what now. it seriously shouldn’t be this hard
Here’s the thing: ableds view disabled people existing in public as a violation of their right to have fun. It’s why they damn near rioted when told they have to mask for our protection, it’s why they throw a hissy fit if you ask them not to smoke around you (or god forbid local governments make laws against smoking in public!), it’s why they act as if society will collapse if their precious little Timmy can’t bring a peanut butter sandwich to school. It’s why we had Ugly Laws in the past and why disabled kids were sent to institutions, not schools, until the seventies (edit: in the U.S, can’t speak much on the disability history of other countries).
I flat out had a guy at the Maryland MVA (DMV in other states) see the Indiana I.D card I was trying to change into a Maryland one then immediately go into a tirade about Indiana’s “draconic” laws about not smoking in public or in restaurants. I timidly pointed out that it was to protect asthmatics and other people with breathing issues, and the asshole flat out told me that if people are too sick to be around people smoking then they should never leave the house. And that’s been the general eugenicist opinion ever since covid hit the scene, taken to the max. The ableds don’t care enough about us to do the absolutely bare minimum to protect us or even themselves, because wearing a piece of fabric around their face while out and about is such a drag, you know?
(I wish I was bolder ten years ago at the MVA. If I could go back to that moment and just look him in the eye as I pull out my inhaler, then ask to see his superior. But i kowed instead. Not anymore.)
the way that the fact that the united states has overthrown dozens of governments to set up facist dictatorships is treated as “neat trivia” and not one of the greatest crimes against humanity in the last century is sickening

Teen Vogue has produced some of the strongest and most important political journalism of the past few years.
This is a monstrous development.
Legacy/corporate media is killing youth power.
We’re not talking enough about the very visible death of a “free press” in the US underway due to like 10 people owning it all and controlling what we’re allowed to know. Teen Vogue had become an unexpected hero in this space over the past several years. This should horrify and concern us all.

Hey guys please pay attention to any new changes on these platforms in the terms of service. I, y’know, just have a feeling that we’re about to see a major uptick in censorship.
It feels like this is the biggest story to still be flying relatively under the radar in the anglophone press. If a single phonecall from a racist pig American can get hundreds of your senior engineers and their families, who are only there to oversee factory construction up to spec, rounded up and sent to the Gestapo torture dungeons then suddenly it’s an open question if any Korean, Japanese (and indeed eventually potentially even European) firm will ever feel safe directly investing in the US ever again
“We simply copied capitalism [from the West]. We did not consider the national conditions in Mongolia: the historical development of our country, the nomadic sector in our economy, how many inhabitants we have, and so on. We simply replicated [the West]. […] Enterprises were privatized. That was in my view the first major mistake. Many Mongolians lost their jobs. Highly skilled and trained individuals landed on the streets. The industries were destroyed. Some people managed to buy businesses and take them abroad and thereby became very rich. Others lost everything. There was suddenly a huge inequality in Mongolia. […] Agriculture was also ruined. Prior to 1990, we were exporting wheat. By 2000, we had to import 85 percent of our wheat from Japan and the USA. Within the space of 10 years, we ruined everything. This is what happened after we listened to the World Bank advisors that came to Mongolia. They had never been to our country. They knew nothing about the structure of socialist society and the nomadic economy. It was the same in Africa and Latin America. They told us that everything we built had to be ruined, and in the end, they ruined it very well.”
- Дэндэвийн Тэрбишдагва (Dendev Terbishdagva), former deputy prime minister of Mongolia (2012-2014) in interview with Internationale Forschungsstelle DDR, July 2024, Улаанбаатар.
do you ever have someone say something that has so many layers of wrongness that your brain just hits a brick wall? I had that with this guy. he leaned over to share a fun fact with me: “did you know, scientists have answered an age old riddle: what came first, the chicken or the egg? they extracted a protein and found it was the egg.”
and I had to blink for like 20 seconds before answering. I said well, that depends on how you’re defining the question, because the ability to lay eggs predates chickens by quite a bit. but if you’re asking what came first, the chicken or the chicken egg, it would be the chicken because whatever minuscule mutation it is that theoretically makes us consider a chicken a chicken would be in the embryo inside a not-chicken egg. and then that chicken would grow up and lay a chicken egg. but the question is actually nonsense because there’s no clear line you can draw between ‘chicken’ and ‘not a chicken’, and species as a concept is actually more artificial than you think. I can use ‘ring species’ as an example to help illustrate that, if you want. so say a deer species lives on a u-shaped island with a giant impassable mountain in the center. because of gene flow, all the populations living beside eachother will be able to interbreed. but, because the populations on either side of the u have theoretically been separate for millions of years, they can’t interbreed. is it all one species? is it multiple species? where do you draw the line? is it based on external features? on genome? because even those break down under scrutiny. so you see, the chicken and the egg question is just nonsense. also what protein. what protein did the scientists discover in the egg.
and he stammered and said “I don’t know.” and then later I realized that he’d been trying to flirt with me
Eggs predate chickens by several hundred million years.
‘People are panicking about AI tools the same way they did when the calculator was invented, stop worrying’ cannot stress enough the calculator did not forcibly pervade every aspect of our lives, has such a low error rate it’s a statistical anomaly when it does happen, isn’t built on mass plagiarism, and does not obliterate the fucking environment when you use it. Be so fucking serious right now
I am choosing to do the right thing.
I am choosing to do the right thing.
I am choosing to do the right thing, and I am glad I am doing the right thing.
if you generally profess non-violence, I promise you don’t need to come up with convoluted arguments to justify why violence is okay when it’s against specific kinds of people. you don’t need to do that.
you can just say that violence is against your ideals but you also have other values and ideals in addition to non-violence, and you’re relieved when a person is killed who had been causing a lot of harm, because no more people will be harmed by them. AND at the same time you wish that harm would have been prevented without violence being used.
it’s that simple. you’re a complex human being and tension can exist between your different feelings, values and ideals. it’s okay. please don’t do a “I know I always say I don’t support violence but here’s why violence is actually okay against people I don’t like. I know more about non-violence than you”
The sky is clear, if bereft of stars - washed away by the light of artificial moons.
Luna herself is sharp, lit by the light of Sol, no longer shining down upon me.
The air is crisp, my fingers cold. I should’ve brought a hat and gloves. It’s cold, but not so cold as to be a danger, just cold enough to be a warning.
The scent of smoke, wafts - clean from those who lit their hearth long before the frost, creosote from those who lit them tonight, and tobacco from those who ignore the no-smoking signs.
I’d buy a drink to warm my hands, but the fancy cafe which replaced the 24-hour convenience store closed before I even got off work. I should be saving my money anyways.
Some kind of bird warbles. I can’t find it, nor can the smoker with his gym bag and sleeping bag next to me. We’re both grateful for the song regardless.
i’m not the best at singing. but i’m gonna sing anyway dude. i’m not the best at painting. but i’m still going to paint. my dancing will never see a stage. but it’s perfect for early mornings in my bedroom and late nights with people i love. so what does this mean? it means that people are designed to do. not to be the best. just to do. if you’re doing what you enjoy, then you don’t have to be the best. you just have to enjoy it. you have to live.
