OH WAIT THATS SUCH A GOOD IDEA ACTUALLY???? THE UNDERDEPTHS OF THE DEAD ZONE BEING HABITATED BY THE ANCIENT REMAINS OF THE LEVIATHAN MERS THAT ARE SPRAWLED EVERYWHERE,,,,,,
“Baba…”
AS!Pure Vanilla: “Oh, it’ll be alright, sweetheart. I’m sure he’ll come around eventually…”
Both his heart and his head ache, feeling another one of those magic induced migraines coming on upon him. He sighs, sinking even lower into the ground as his mind feels like it’s about to pound out of his skull. He’s unfortunately used to this.
However, a familiar presence seems to know exactly what to do in such situations, as if it had been observing him for a long time. A glass of milk is manifested, before sneakily retreating again. Upon seeing the gift, he smiles.
AS!Pure Vanilla: “Thank you…”
He whispers to the open air, now knowing who was being so kind to him after all these years. Blue Orchid senses the presence too, excitedly giggling against Pure Vanilla’s chest. He cared in his own special way, even if he would never openly admit that.
Because they were more alike than they both thought.
AS!Sage: “You mean to tell me that that’s my counterpart? Hm…”
Pure Vanilla sighs, flopping to the ground in exhaustion. Being a parent was tough in more ways than one. Blue Orchid looks sad, trying to grab for the air that Shadow Milk has disappeared to. “Baba…”
AS!Sage: “I suppose for all intents and purposes, he is technically related to Blue Orchid. Given that she has access to the other realm and was drawn somewhat from the soul jam that housed a tiny sample of the original that he holds. Although whether or not he’ll adhere to that role is truly a mystery…”
AS!Sage: “I…huh?”
Shadow Milk grimaces at his truthful counterpart, a scowl forming on his face. He looks far too much like his old self to be comfortable. At the same time, Blue Orchid finally wakes up from all the commotion, releasing her grip long enough for the beast to float her away with magic. He practically drops her into Pure Vanilla’s arms, before scampering off.
AS!Sage: “…What was that all about?”
AS!Shadow Milk: “Why is she so strong?! She’s a child!”
AS!Pure Vanilla: “It’s okay to say you don’t want to hurt her-”
AS!Shadow Milk: “Shut it!”
As if on cue, Sage enters the room with a cup of steaming tea in his hands.
AS!Sage: “Good morning, Pure Vanilla! How’s-”
He freezes upon seeing the slumbering beast, nearly fumbling his cup in shock.
AS!Sage: “Who is that?!”
Shadow Milk’s eyes bolt open, leaping up to disappear into the shadows, but is still being held on to by Blue Orchid. Stubborn child, even while asleep.
AS!Pure Vanilla: “I sure hope so. I’d…like to get to know him more. I don’t say that about a lot of cookies, unfortunately…”
He opts to travel through the other realm, already tired enough as is. He practically collapses on the bundle of pillows and blankets arranged on the floor, falling asleep within mere seconds. The shadows around him seem restless, as if deciding something.
When he wakes up the next morning, with dawn shining through the window, he’s pleasantly surprised to find a blue cookie sat leaning on the wall with Blue Orchid resting beside him. Truly, he couldn’t be that bad.
Shadow Milk contemplates for a moment. Completely silent without his usual cheshire grin. Really thinking.
AS!Shadow Milk: “…Whatever.”
He disappears into the shadows without another word. Pure Vanilla sighs, holding his disappointed daughter close.
AS!Pure Vanilla: “He’s not the easiest to get close to, is he? Then again, I’m not either…”
AS!Shadow Milk: “I don’t have to do anything! I don’t have to accept anything! You’re all making such a big deal out of…nothing!”
AS!Pure Vanilla: “She likes being around you. A lot. Even if you were to go millions of miles away, she’d still follow you.”
Blue Orchid continues to babble different variations of “shami” and “baba”, excitedly waving her arms towards the beast. Any other cookie would have been terrified, scampering away at the first glimpse of those many eyes and sharp features. But not this one.
AS!Pure Vanilla: “I don’t mind you being around. In fact, I could use the extra help sometimes, considering how often she gets into trouble…”
He yawns, a reminder of how late it was that she’d run off.
“…But I won’t force you.”
AS!Pure Vanilla: “They are remarkably similar…”
Pure Vanilla studies the two. Both have strikingly blue hair and pupils that narrow down in slits. Shadow Milk is still grumbling trying to get the surprisingly strong child off of him. “Ah! Let me help you with that…”
Pure Vanilla easily pries off Blue Orchid, setting her gently down into his arms again. The beast turns to leave as soon as possible, but is stopped by a hand clasping his arm.
“Wait!” Shadow Milk only halts, refusing to look at him. “I-I just wanted to thank you. For that day. You saved my life, uhh…”
“Shadow Milk.” The beast sighs. “The name is Shadow Milk.”
“Shadow Milk…” Pure Vanilla breathes aloud, marveling in it. At the same time, Blue Orchid gets a determined look in her eyes, as if focusing on trying to do something.
“Shha…mi…” She manages to babble, earning a shocked look from both Pure Vanilla and Shadow Milk.
“Shhami! Shami! Baba!”
AS!Shadow Milk: “How many times do I have to say-!”
“Blue Orchid! Sweetheart! Are you here?!”
Shadow Milk freezes, before trying to disappear into the shadows again. Unfortunately, Blue Orchid has latched onto his arm and doesn’t seem to be letting go any time soon. He tries to pry her off, hearing the approaching footsteps of another cookie.
AS!Pure Vanilla: “Sweetheart…?”
He notices Shadow Milk floating awkwardly in the air, one hand pressed against Blue Orchid’s face as the little cookie pouts. Pure Vanilla can’t help but snicker at the sight, now knowing that this cookie had no genuine ill intent. He earns a scowl for his efforts.
Hrmm,,,,,I wonder,,,,,
would yall be interested in a separate rp blog for the artificial soul au?

who even are you
See ResultsAS!Shadow Milk: “Eugh, not the time!”
Shadow Milk floats away from Blue Orchid, who has managed to sneak out again and follow the jester out into the woods. Pure Vanilla is nowhere in sight, likely looking for her at the very moment. He mentally cringes at himself once he realizes what he’s doing.
“…I’m running away from a child.”
AS!Pure Vanilla: “Thank you kindly.”
And, for good measure, a bag of candy is also distributed outside of Recluse’s hiding place under a blanket. Two hands shoot out and grab the offering in the blink of an eye.
AS!Recluse: “This will…suffice…”
AS!Pure Vanilla, around a mouthful of cake: “You’re forgiven… J-Just take it easy next time…! For both of our sakes.”
Recluse has dashed off with his sweets, finding a suitable place to hide so he won’t be attacked with kind words again.
AS!Pure Vanilla: “S-Stop that…”
Recluse is refusing to move from his position on the floor, mumbling incoherently.
Suddenly, dresses!
AS!Pure Vanilla: “Ah, u-uhm…Thank you…?”
Recluse is down on the ground, violently overstimulated.
“You’re an insane mer, clinging to that cookie. Sooner or later, you’ll regret having such connections to that land dweller. I grow bored of this fight, and you’re more trouble than you’re worth.”
The viper mer snorts and swims away, retreating back into the hollow mushroom to wait for new prey.
DZD!Sage: “Phew! For future reference, don’t get close to the glow mushrooms. Viper mers have a symbiotic relationship with them, fending off parasites for it while it provides shelter and a good ambush spot.”
FORGOR TO TAG @kuiperverse
(The Recluse glares after the viper Mer, feeling ready to follow them and attack them - but - no, that’s not what he does. He doesn’t attack Cookies, he never has. That Mer had just been protecting their home.)
Recluse: …I will remember that.
Sage (shivering): Me too… that was terrifying…
(As quickly as he can, he swims over and pulls the Recluse into a tight hug, burying his face in his shoulder (as much as he can with the suit on) and sniffling slightly. The Recluse jolts in surprise, and slowly returns the embrace.)
Sage: What did they say, anyways? They sounded really upset…
Recluse (miserably): They thought that you were a Mer trader. That I was being tricked by you… I know you would not, but please do not ever trick me…
Sage (soothingly): I won’t, my Recluse.
DZD!Sage: “I suppose that makes sense. I hate how they have to fear for their lives even down here…”
Another viper mer approaches from the shadows, but based on her relaxed posture and disposition, she’s not here to hurt. In fact, she also looks strikingly familiar…
Viper Mer!Hollyberry: “That was quite the nasty fight back there! You’ve got guts, that’s for sure.”
Recluse: H- HOLLY- HOLLYBERRY????!??!?!
Sage: HUH????
Viper Mer!Hollyberry: “…And you already know my name? Very creepy. Anyway, what are you doing with two cookies down at this depth? From the looks of them, they aren’t trappers.”
Recluse (still rather horrified): …I’m their friend… I’m from another universe… so is he… (He gestures numbly at the Sage, who waves excitedly, smiling wide.)
Sage: Pleaseeee tell me what you’re saying this time!!!
Viper Mer!Hollyberry: “Huh. So that’s why they look so similar! And here I was thinking they were twins!”
Hollyberry jovially laughs, swimming up to Mercluse and giving him a tough sideways hug. Some things never change, even from universe to universe…
(The Recluse freezes at the hug - and promptly begins to cry.)
Sage (gasping and swimming closer): Ah-?! ‘Clusey?! What’s wrong?!
Hollyberry slightly backs off at the approach of the other Sage, but quickly relaxes again once she assesses he’s not a threat.
Viper Mer!Hollyberry: “What’s the matter? Did I hug ya too hard?”
Recluse: N……..no…….
Sage: 'Clusey!! Seriously!! You’re scaring me…
Recluse (switching back to Cookie tongue): I am okay…
Viper Mer!Hollyberry: “Well, you take care now! I gotta go check on my nest! Safe travels with you and your friends!”
Hollyberry gives him one last crushing hug, a bit too tight, before swimming off with a friendly wave.
DZD!Sage: “I’ve never seen a viper mer this friendly…!”
Recluse: She… she is…
(He buries his face in his hands. Blueberry Milk hurries over and tries to comfort him, looking over at his other self with wide, confused eyes. Before he can do anything else, the Recluse looks up with a resigned expression.)
Recluse: …Let us go on…
DZD!Sage: “…Right then. We’ll take a stop at the icebergs and the nearby kelp forest for now.”
Sage safely guides them out of the mushroom caves and back to the outside. Before he boards the submarine again, he stops for just a moment to look at Mercluse, concerned. “Are you…alright? You took a pretty nasty bite back there. How are you feeling?”
Recluse (looking down): I am fine. I can heal with my magic…
DZD!Sage: “I’ll make a note of that…”
The two Sages board the ship, and off they go again. The water starts to get colder, approaching the icier waters of the far south. The freezing water hit Sage as soon as he exited the Cyclops, involuntarily shivering.
DZD!Sage: “Brrr…! J-Just keep moving to warm yourself up…”
(The Sage gasps from the sudden temperature transition, while the Recluse seems unaffected.)
Recluse (worriedly): You are cold?
Sage: J-j-u-ust a li-i-tle!!
Yet another different species of mer enters the water from above, initially hiding out on the ice floating just above. The mer appeared to have both blubber and scales, almost appearing like armor. Right after it, three other mers jumped into the ocean, seemingly part of a hunting group. They spared a glance at the three cookies before moving on with their expedition.
DZD!Sage: “Right there! Those are arctic mers! They actually primarily breathe air and can only stay underwater for a short period of time, but their tail fin is specifically adapted to move above water! They’re also very social, and you rarely see an arctic mer without their pod.”
Recluse: …hm… They look like the cliff Mers, in our universe…
Sage: C-c-cliff Me-e-ers?! Th-those are re-eal?!
Recluse: Yes…
Sage: Oh, thi-is is so i-interes-sting…!!!
Recluse: Come here… You are too cold.
(The Recluse swims closer and folds the Sage into his arms, carrying him like a small child as he follows the other Sage.)
DZD!Sage: “Cliff mers? Oh, they might have evolved to have similar traits to adapt to the cold as well! Hmm, I wonder…”
Another mer swims by, this time all alone. It was only for a blink, but the mer seemed like…
Witches, not again.
DZD!Sage: “Huh? What’s that arctic mer doing all alone? They usually travel in pods…”
(The Recluse blinks, eyes widening, before letting the Sage go, dropping his face into his hands, and letting out an anguished cry.)
Recluse: I will not deal with this any longer!!! I am being haunted!!!
Sage: Wha- what?! Haunted?!
Recluse: E-every Mer we have seen has- has been some ghost of my past, in a different universe!!! I will not go through it again!!!
DZD!Sage: “Then…how about we move on? Back to the ship? We don’t have to go anywhere else if you want.”
Sage offers, knowing how stressed Recluse must be right now.
Recluse: Yes!! But no!! You two deserve to see the Mers!!
Sage: Recluse! Don’t put us over yourself!!! We’re going back on the ship if you’re okay with it, other me.
Sage nods and the two board the Cyclops again, driving around for a while. They pass through a kelp forest, not an actual stop but just somewhere to cut through while they travel to the shore. While Recluse was still outside, he heard a peculiar voice call out to him from the dark waters.
“Where are you going?” It asked, and the water buzzed with magic that seemed to thrall the mer deeper into its clutches. He couldn’t ignore it, that’s for sure.
Recluse: …!!!
(He turns around, looking every which way for the source of the voice. He was wary of it, obviously; the magic was so blatantly whirring in his senses that he knew something fishy (ha) was going on. But… that magic was powerful…)
Sage (looking out of the window, muffled by the ship): 'Clusey? What’s wrong?
Recluse: …?! Nothing… I am fine… (He brushes off the strange voice and follows the Cyclops more closely.) …Though I think we should move faster…
“I have something to show you.”
The magic flowed comfortably around the mer, providing a false sense of security around the unfamiliar waters. A brilliant flash of white scales follows just perfectly out of view of the ship, a strange color for a mer to be.
“You can give it to your cookie. Follow me. Follow me.”
…He should probably follow.
Recluse: …My Cookie…? Little professor…?
…Hm…
(He swims towards the voice.)
SNAP!
A net launches itself at Recluse and traps him, sending him flying into the ground with the sheer force of it. It dug into his scales and cut into his fins, making it harder and harder for him to move.
The mer finally showed itself fully, pure white scales littered over its entire body like fresh snow. They smiled, getting closer to the ensnared mer.
“My cookies will be so pleased! I’ve never seen a mer like you before!”
They briefly swim to the surface, calling out to something above water.
…A ship was approaching. It couldn’t be.
(Immediately, the Recluse let out a choked roar, terror clawing at him just as he clawed at the net. He thrashed, bit, squirmed, but he could not get free.)
Recluse: LITTLE PROFESSOR!!! SAGE!!!! SOMEONE!!!! HELP!!!
A few moments later, divers that were decidedly not Sage descend from the boat that stopped above. They reached for the net, attempting to pull it on board with them.
Scholar: “FINE! Just one!”
Scholar gives the virtue the lightest kiss ever on the cheek, and Prophet practically squeals in delight. He tackles the other cookie, peppering him with kiss after kiss.
Scholar: “AH-!”
Viri Prophet Asks (5/10)
Recluse is hiding away under a mountain of blankets, which is still somehow not hiding his furious blush.
Recluse squeals even more, hiding his face even deeper into his robes. Pure Vanilla looks just as shocked, face flushed as bright as a tomato.
AS!Pure Vanilla: “A-Ah, well, you…y-you don’t know that…!”
“You’re an insane mer, clinging to that cookie. Sooner or later, you’ll regret having such connections to that land dweller. I grow bored of this fight, and you’re more trouble than you’re worth.”

It depends on how hard they are to capture. Coral mers are lower value bc you can just grab one and be done with it, but for things like viper mers or emperor mers where you have to REALLY fight for it, those are the ones more high value. There’s also things such as coloring and size, like actual fish trading stuff
